Three sisters. A public fight. A sister goes missing.

These three plot points equal the start to a great thriller. The Missing Wife is a novel about three sisters, Siobhan, Kathleen, and Corin. Kathleen, the eldest, goes missing after a public spat with her sisters. While sisters fight, the fact she goes missing soon after topped with Siobhan not answering Kathleen’s call after the big fight, sets the stage for all eyes to be on the remaining siblings.

When Siobhan, currently living in England, gets a call saying someone found Kathleen’s purse with a note to call Siobhan, it instantly raises panic. What’s even odder is the location it is found. Siobhan quickly makes plans to head home to Ireland to see what this all means. She is met with dirty looks, mean retorts, and many other inhumane acts, but this just makes her more determined.

There is a lot of intrigue and layers to this story. Kathleen’s story is complex. She has a heart of compassion and a desire to helped troubled youth, but has she put herself in danger to help her community? And the family dynamic only adds it. Kathleen’s husband isn’t the good man everyone thinks he is. Siobhan’s marriage is falling apart with the secrets she’s keeping after her sister disappears. And what about the siblings awful parents? Definitely a page turner!

This book took me a while to finish. Siobhan’s sister Kathleen goes missing and Siobhan wants to find her. Not everyone in the community is happy when Siobhan decides to search for her. Where is she? Why isn’t her husband more concerned? Who can she trust? There were some twists but nothing that kept me on the edge of my seat. I found it to be slow and I didn’t want to keep reading it. Thank you Sue, NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC!

Everyone knows about the fight between Kathleen Walsh and her sister on the night she disappeared. For six months, no one has heard from Kathleen. Not her bullying husband, not her teenage son, and not her devastated sister Siobhan. But then Kathleen’s purse is found by a walker high up on the rocky Irish cliffs. The only thing inside is a torn scrap of paper with the words ‘HELP Me For Siobhan, it’s a chance to find her sister and fix the mistake she made six months ago. But not everyone in the tight-knit community welcomes Siobhan’s interest in the disappearance, and after a tense exchange with Kathleen’s old colleagues, Siobhan starts receiving chilling threats. She won’t stop the search, but has she made a terrible mistake? When Siobhan’s daughter goes missing, she realises the lengths someone will go to hide the truth. Now they’re going to learn how far she’ll go to save her family…
It was a fun read.

I though this book would be good but, it turned out to be slow, pr3dictable and boring. I couldn't wait to get to the end. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

This book sounded very interesting from the description, but ended up being very predictable and boring. I was engaged enough to want to know what happened to Kathleen, but didn’t feel overly connected or invested in the characters in the story. The story felt very disjointed and like it jumped all over the place at times. It also had a very anticlimactic ending after some building towards what seemed like it would be a tense end around 75% of the way through the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for my ARC of this book.

A missing sister....a desperate family who want answers and a community who want the whole business left unsolved and not brought back up again. The corrupt Guard, the nasty husband and a bunch of secrets.....this is a really great book and I was hooked from the start. Well worth a read and the writing is beautiful, explaining the scenic background in gorgeous detail. You feel like you're in the seaside town while you're reading it. Really good, big thumb up from me!

This book was just okay. The book didn't make me feel attached to the characters I found myself skipping around skimming and I just finished it to write this review.

I was very interested in reading this book from the synopsis, however, I found the book to be boring and predictable. I contemplated not finishing, but I did finish, and the ending really wasn’t anything different than what I thought was going to happen and that was disappointing.

I enjoyed reading this book- it was a little bit of a slow burn for me, but the plot kept my attention and I found the ending satisfying. I would reccomend it to others.

This book was simply incredible. A story of the unbreakable bond between sisters, and the length at which one will go to uncover the truth. The Missing Wife is a must read for fans of The Couple Next Door and The Good Wife.

Kathleen goes missing following a night out celebrating her birthday with her sisters.

Siobhan grapples with the lost of her sister and the inevitable unraveling of her marriage as she becomes consumed with trying to find out what exactly happened to Kathleen. When she gets a call that Kathleen’s purse was found several months Siobhan sets off to her hometown to find out what scared her sister off. She dives head first into a world of political corruption, lies, cover-ups, domestic abuse, and danger.

Despite someone’s attempts to scare her, Siobhan’s curious nature as a journalist push her further and further to cover the secrets her sister and others have fought so hard to keep hidden.

A line is crossed when Siobhan’s daughter Frey’s goes missing from a party. All bets are off to silence Siobhan and keep Kathleen’s secret safe.

How far will Siobhan go to protect her sister, her marriage, and her daughter?

The ending will have you on the edge of the seat, hoping that the quick witted Siobhan can stand her ground long enough to put the prices together and bring down those who have caused her family heartbreak and pain.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC copy of Sue Fontin's The Missing Wife.

This book follows Siobhan desperate to know what happened to her sister, Kathleen, after Kathleen went missing.

This book is my first Sue Fontin book and it did not disappoint, it was a roller coaster of emotions. The Missing Wife looks at the diversities of a sibling relationship, grooming, domestic violence, amongst other things. It really did tackle these tough, emotive topics head on and done each one justice.

I would have liked the twist to be more ground breaking. There were only a few ways this book could end, although there was a moment at the end when I actually gasped.

I enjoyed the book and would recommend if you like mystery/ crime books. I gave it 3.75 stars.

Really enjoyed my first Sue Fortin book! She certainly kept me guessing!

Siobhan is married with a teenaged daughter and living in England. She and her husband are originally from Ireland and visit from time to time. On one fateful visit back Siobhan is having drinks with her two sisters, Kathleen and Corin at the local pub. A verbal disagreement erupts among the sisters and on that same night Kathleen goes missing. The police finally rule that Kathleen has just run away from her life (leaving behind a husband and teenaged son.) Six months later Siobhan is now back at home in England. She receives a mysterious call about her sister's purse being found and returns to Ireland with her daughter to try to piece together what really happened to Kathleen.

I really enjoyed the Irish setting and family dynamics. This story has many facets to it and I more or less went in blind. I'd suggest not to read too many reviews that might reveal too much about it. I liked the fact that I could not piece together exactly what happened and loved the way it was revealed in the story. I'll be on the lookout for more Sue Fortin books!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Missing Wife by Sue Fortin is a thriller set on the west coast of Ireland about Siobhan whose sister Kathleen Walsh went missing 6 months ago after the purse Kathleen had at the time was found.

The Missing Wife, is one of those novels which by just reading the synopsis has all the pieces to make a thriller which as a reader would be an enjoyable one to read however it does not live up to the expectations.

The reason for this is quite difficult to put a finger on, for example the basis of the story with an individual going back home to find out a family secret is usually in my wheelhouse.

Added to this we have the main character Siobhan, a middle aged woman whose marriage is on the brink of breaking down because of Kathleen’s disappearance.

In addition the story had a number of twists and turns throughout which should keep any thriller reader engaged but this was not the case, which in hindsight seemed to be that Sue Fortin with her writing allowed the reader to become involved with the characters and their jeopardy.

I do not mean that the action scenes were poor, there was some tension and it did feel like the characters were at risk. The problem was that while the premise for The Missing Wife was a good one Sue Fortin the writer was unable to write engaging enough characters.

Having said that if you want a competent thriller the The Missing wife is for you.

3.5 ⭐

this book is an easy and quick mystery thriller. perfect for someone who is just getting into mysteries and doesn't want to dive into the deeper end of dark mysteries. this book had just enough suspense to keep me wanting to continue following the plot to see how it ended but unfortunately not enough to keep me on the edge of my seat the whole book.

some of my notes while reading this🫶🏾:

love how detailed this is

Siobhan kinda reminds me of Pippa from a good girls guide to murder except older

this book does a lot of telling instead of showing, while it's good sometimes, it's a bit unnecessary how every single thing is explained to us even though some are pretty obvious

Siobhan is a pretty good and cool mum honestly

pretty average, but well written. so in essence, this is a well written average book and becuase i've read much worse, i'm deffs giving this an extra .5 because the plot was well rounded, no gaps and there weren't really any shocking moments in this.

West Coast of Ireland

Kathleen, Siobhan, and Corin are sisters. They grew up in Ireland but after marriage, Siobhan decided to move to England with her husband and daughter, Freya.

It was six months ago when Kathleen disappeared. The sisters had had an argument in a pub shortly before she left. The family is all upset that Kathleen has not been found. Now, that Siobhan’s daughter, Freya, has a week off school, they decide to return to Ireland and see if they can find out more about Kathleen’s disappearance.

When Siobhan starts delving into places and asking questions, people get angry and try to get her out of there. But she’s stubborn and only wants to help her sister. She is also keeping secrets for Kathleen.

Oh dear. This book was repetitive, and boring. So many bullies and nasty men that think they run the town and will do anything to protect themselves and their little fiefdoms. This even includes the Guards. Just not for me.

The Missing Wife is predominately about a missing sister, as Kathleen's sisters care more about her disappearance than her abusive husband. Siobhan knows more about her sister's life than she lets on. As the story progresses, these secrets reveal themselves with unexpected consequences. Siobhan returns to her family home with her daughter and finds a hostile reception. The tale is twisty and menacing. Every reveal ups the suspense, and it's addictive reading. The ending is impactful and satisfying. I like the authentic family and village relationship dynamics, the Irish rural setting and the menacing ethos.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

This book is about three Irish sisters one of which has been missing for 6 months. However when her purse is found with the middle sister’s phone number this ignites a series of events where the two remaining sisters try to discover what has happened. The story unfolds in the present with chapters flashing back to relevant events. I quite enjoyed this technique as the backstory was gradually released but felt there were too many clues as to what had obviously happened and thought this heavy handed. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters and found the middle sister especially irritating and me-centric. I think the reader is supposed to empathise with her, but it missed the mark with me. The drama was well handled but the final motivations were weak.
