First of all, thank you to Putnam Books and NetGalley for the ARC to this cute “superhero” story. While it did take a couple of chapters to get used to the writing style, I did end up really enjoying this book. The characters and story line were great and I loved the added story line that was placed throughout, though I wish that had been a bit more dramatic ending. Overall, a great story and nice read.

Thank you for the opportunity to read to e-arc for We Could Be Heroes. The cover and description grabbed my attention, but the contents didn't. It just felt over written, which made it hard to really get into and root for the characters. It also went on and on, when it feels like it could've wrapped up by page 300 had there been less information shoved into another 84 pages.

This book was a pleasant surprise for me. I felt in the beginning it was a little slow and clunky with a few different storylines and quite a few characters. But as the book developed, all the pieces fell into place that some may call Kismet.
I enjoyed the added spice too especially if anyone are into Superheroes 😉. The growth of characters were all relatable and I never found myself hating any of them at any point. They all seemed fully develop & served a purpose to the greater story.
It also included so many different references to not only queer culture but the queer experience. I found myself relating to both main characters at different points for different reasons. While some may say it was a bit over saturated including so many different elements, I think it’s important that no matter how you identify there is something you can find relatable in this story.
So next time you’re in the mood for Drag Race or the latest Marvel movie, why don’t you pick up this book instead and get lost in this love story.
Cue “wildest dreams” by Taylor Swift

This one was tough for me. It was difficult to get into and I didn't really love the characters. I'm hoping to pick this up again when I'm not in a reading slump. Hopefully I'll enjoy it more later. I did enjoy the writing style though!

I loved this book! This is the second book I've read in the last few months that featured drag queens, and that is so apt right now in the midst of all the hate out there in the world. Drag queens represent a joyful defiance, being oneself fully and courageously. I like the way the author juxtaposes the drag queens (the true heroes) with the superhero character that the MC plays. I also loved the backstory of the creation of the original comic set in McCarthy Era America. That was a brilliant move and having that story and the original comic stories interwoven with the present said something quite profound and sad about how little things have actually changed. I will absolutely be looking for more from this author! I highly recommend this to readers of LGBTQIA+ romance!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

Well, this didn't work for me. I thought this would be a fun and cute romance between an actor and a drag queen. Which was missed. Additionally, it was very confusing in the beginning. It wasn't until halfway through the book that I finally understood all the characters. Overall, it was just okay. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my review.

I'm not usually one for romances with celebrities but honestly Patrick is probably the most down-to-earth actor I've ever read! Will is also super fun and I LOVE Gracie Anatomy! The way they have two little meet cutes was so adorable and I really enjoyed all of the side characters, apart from Patrick's agent... wasn't a fan of her's unfortunately. I also really enjoyed the other story told within this one and getting to find out how that one ended as well. Overall this was a good romance made even better by drag queens and superhero costumes!

This one is tough for me. I loved the premise of this book, with a modern day superhero actor being closeted, and meeting a drag queen that he falls for. I loved the intermingling of the past where the superhero came from, and learning how the comic came to be. The book was kind of slow and I struggled keeping focus until about 60% through.
I thought there were some jabs in here about the LGBTQIA+ community that I didn’t love. I get that the author said it was claiming them back for the community but it didn’t sit well with me. The comment about bisexuals being erased and them not shutting up about it stands out to me.
However - the grand gesture at the end was gorgeous and I loved that Patrick and Will found happiness.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Incredibly cute incredibly sweet romance. When I saw the cover o honestly expected it to be kinda tropey but it worked great. Thanks for the arc

This book gave me Alexis Hall meets Notting Hillish vibes and I loved every moment of it! Without giving away all of the book’s secrets I will note there is also a secondary story woven into the narrative that enriches the entire experience and serves as somewhat of a mystery element as the reader tries to figure out how the stories will converge. I think what I loved most was the pacing —- the narrative progressed in a way that felt natural. The story developed slowly enough for the reader to become invested in the characters, but quickly enough to maintain the audience’s attention. From beginning to end the story is infused with a sense of longing and all of those wonderful, warm feelings that make you want to keep reading and root for the protagonists.
Ellis also does a wonderful job of presenting an interesting supporting cast of characters. Everyone has a part to play and makes their presence felt on the page, so much so that I was excited every time Jordan or Audra appeared on the page! We Could Be Heroes definitely delivers laughs and an emotional impact (it would not be an exaggeration to say I literally cried at least one point) while also tying in social issues and current events in a way that is natural to the narrative and the characters’ experiences. I really enjoyed the journey I went on with Patrick and Will through this novel and am eager to read more from the author in the future. I can see this being an M/M favorite of 2024

We Could Be Heroes follows two timelines that intertwine wonderfully.
The primary focus is set in modern day with Will and Patrick. Will is a Drag Queen that lives in the UK and works as a book seller. Patrick is a closeted Hollywood actor. They meet while Patrick is on location filming. I don’t want to give anything away about their relationship, but there were multiple times I was giddy for them.
The supporting characters were wonderful. Funny and supportive in a very realistic way. I’d be friends with them! Really fantastic one liners too.
I recommend this book-it’s really well written and isn’t surface level. Thank you, NetGalley.
If you’re looking for spice 🌶️ this is probably not the book for you. Actions are implied but not heavily described.

I was really pleasantly surprised this book wasn't over the top silly because it sort of gave off that impression. It was a serious book with light hearted and funny moments. I really appreciated the way stories were interwoven within the story. It made the book even more special and unique. Would recommend for anyone.
