You know those romcoms that you love but at the end of it, you know in your heart that the couple doesn't last. That while they love each other now, it won't stand the test of time. That's how I felt about this book, but I don't think that they should've even been together during the space where the book took place. And if you aren't rooting for the main couple to finally kiss and make up at the end of the novel, it's hard to enjoy, even if there are some redeeming moments.

A heartwarming story about Wyatt and Biz who are awaiting their first child. Anytime a cross country trip is planned you know there will be a ton of adventures that will occur.
I laughed at many of the movie, tv, and music mentions. I loved they were going to listen to yacht rock music because that is my favorite channel! I also loved the locale of Biz’s home town because I’m very familiar with the area.
The novel forces the couple to work stuff out as they encounter many bends in the journey (a word that is overused in the book).
I liked the ending the best because it gives readers a glimpse of how their family had progressed and reinforces the idea that everything happens for a reason.

In the heartwarming and humorous novel "The Bump" by Sidney Karger, we follow the journey of Wyatt Wallace and Biz Petterelli, a couple on the cusp of parenthood, as they embark on a cross-country babymoon to reconnect and address their doubts and fears. Wyatt, a practical and organized TV commercial director, and Biz, a child actor turned magazine writer who thrives on spontaneity, find themselves at odds as they navigate the impending changes in their lives. Despite their contrasting personalities, they share a deep commitment to their relationship and their life together in Brooklyn with their beloved dog, Matilda. As the due date approaches, Biz suggests a last hurrah—a road trip to California before the baby arrives. They pack their vintage Volkswagen Rabbit and hit the road, seeking adventure and quality time to mend the issues that have been straining their relationship. Their journey takes them to Provincetown, Chicago, and Colorado, where they encounter unexpected detours and face challenges that test their bond. Along the way, old wounds are reopened, and secrets are revealed, forcing them to confront the meaning of family and their own commitment to each other. With each bump in the road, Wyatt and Biz learn valuable lessons about themselves and their relationship. They discover the importance of communication, compromise, and forgiveness. They also gain a deeper appreciation for the love and support of their friends and family. As they approach the end of their babymoon, they find themselves more connected and prepared for the challenges and joys of parenthood. "The Bump" is a poignant and insightful exploration of the complexities of modern relationships and the transformative power of love and family. Karger's witty and engaging writing style brings the characters to life and makes their journey relatable and heartwarming. This novel is a must-read for anyone who has ever faced the challenges of change and uncertainty, and for those who are looking for a story that celebrates the enduring power of love.

4.9 Stars

Biz and Wyatt are in their thirties. They've been together for over ten years and they're about to become dads! Instead of flying from Brooklyn to California for the birth, they decide on a little road trip with their dog and their VW convertible. One last kid free gay hurrah with a few stops on the way like their favorite vacation spot Provincetown and their friends' Star Wars themed wedding in Colorado.
But being on the road - together 24/7 - is not as romantic and as fun as they were hoping. It seems as if they're constantly arguing and fighting and not telling each other everything they should be tell each other.
Will their relationship survive this babymoon road trip?

That was so adorable.
I just love the cover - it's so beautiful and fun and cute. Perfect!
And the story - the blurb - sounded just as fun and road trippy.
And it was fun and sweet and road trippy. But our poor darlings are so scared of the future. And of so many things that they're not really talking about. You'd think that with all the time in the car they would find the time to talk about stuff - but it's not that easy.
We can just hope that it will all turn out perfectly for Biz and Wyatt and the baby and the dog at the end!

I really enjoyed reading this!
And I so want to see this on TV one day!

► THE BUMP was such a great and funny and moving and sweet and just adorable road trip - relationship & daddy issues - we're having a baby love story! I LOVED IT!

I just want to go back and immediately reread this book because it had hit me so strongly that I just wanted to keep reliving it. Definitely one of the best I have read this month.

Cute premise, easy writing, I just didn’t want to hang out with the MCs. They were stressed and snappy and it makes sense, but I don’t enjoy it personally. Stopped after chapter 1 (6%) but definitely three to four stars for the target audience.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC.
