Children of anguish and anarchy / Tomi Adeyemi. I liked the first book in this series, didn't read the second but got a free copy of this 3rd. Didn't much like it - all fighting and gore.

I received an ARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and were not affected by the free copy.

I have been waiting for this book for so long, and I was so excited to get a copy! While it was good, it was not the ending I was hoping for.

For the most part, I enjoyed this book. It was fast pased, interesting, action-packed, and I sped through it. I love multiple POVs, and enjoyed the switching to hear what was going with all of the characters. I loved some of our new characters, and the character growth for some (especially Tzain) made me really happy. However, it felt like an entirely different book than the previous two. All of the previous issues were brushed aside to introduce an entirely new evil that had apparently been lurking the entire time, while some characters are never seen or heard from again-in fact, they aren't even hardly thought about. It felt more like a spin-off than a third book in a series. And unfortunately, the ending was extremely abrupt. As in, the epilogue occurs just minutes after the big conclusion, so it didn't really wrap up anything. It was just suddenly over, and we got no closure for pretty much anything.

All in all, the extreme change in plot, and especially the ending, almost ruined the entire book, if not the series for me. I own the first two books, but I don't know if I'll buy the third book, or re-read it again.

Wow.

My heart feels so heavy after finishing this epic finale of the Legacy of Orïsha series.

No adequate words will describe my love for my book, but I will try.

The fast-paced writing in this due to the jaw dropping cliff hanger we had in the previous book made this amazing. The new environment and atmosphere we had in this and also new characters and conflict was great.

This may be the saddest one in the series and also the one with the most death. You could feel the death of everyone in this book hanging onto Zélie, Tzain, Amari, and Inan in this. I liked that we got all their POVs in this.

As always, the diversity we got in this was great. I liked the casual queer rep we saw and the sibling relationships are always near and dear to my heart.

You could truly feel the love that Tzain and Zélie have for one another after losing so many people. It just makes them hang on to each other that much harder.

I think that goes for everyone in this book really. There’s lots of death and grief going on. Violence, blood, gore. The writing is so amazing, you could really feel like you’re in the story with the characters.

I was on edge for about 99% of this book. I was screaming, crying, stressing OUT over this book. I would read it all over again though.

The only thing I will say about this is that one of my favorite characters throughout this series didn’t really get a proper ending, but I suppose that’s okay. I will just be wondering about them for all eternity.

One of the characters mentions them in a very brief way, so you can kind of conclude for yourself where they ended up, but still. I just wanted to see more of them to say a proper goodbye.

Overall, this book was amazing and once again, rich in history. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and everyone.
