I have been a big fan of Dr. Mary Claire since my dear book club friend began following the Galveston Diet program. I appreciated the common sense approach to her proposed lifestyle changes and her focus on the reduction of inflammation, so I followed suit. Fast forward two years, and yes, ladies and gents, my body has had a mind of its own lately. Looks like perimenopause is on the horizon, and I certainly
do not want to be caught unawares. So, when I was given the opportunity to read this wise woman's upcoming release, I was all over it! Plus, she's an ObGyn here in the Houston area, so that makes it all the more accessible!

This book is CHOCK-FULL of important information to navigate the inevitable changes in our bodies as we age. Dr. Haver is clear and concise, with patience and womanly intuition that makes all the difference in a female doctor.

I love how the book is split into 2 parts: Part One is The Story of Menopausal Medicine, explaining its history (or lack thereof) and the current trend to normalize this shift and make it comfortable for us women folk. Part Two goes into the specific symptoms that come along with this shift in hormones and the best strategies to deal with each concern. Each section is detailed and gives readers a precise plan of action to navigate some of the discomforts of this huge transition.

Dr. Haver is a visionary in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, and she is forging a new path for women of a certain age to be able to have more control and direction in their choices as it relates to their own body's shift. Her commitment to putting the power in our hands is refreshing, and I highly recommend this book to women, their friends, and family members.

As the good doctor says, "๐‘ด๐’†๐’๐’๐’‘๐’‚๐’–๐’”๐’† ๐’Š๐’” ๐’Š๐’๐’†๐’—๐’Š๐’•๐’‚๐’ƒ๐’๐’†; ๐’”๐’–๐’‡๐’‡๐’†๐’“๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’Š๐’” ๐’๐’๐’•."

WE'VE GOT THIS, THANKS TO DR. MARY CLAIRE HAVER!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House for this gifted review copy.

Fantastic book with so much information for pre-menopausal and menopausal women. I wish I would have had this to guide me during my appointment's when I went into menopause early. It would have been so helpful to help me feel like I had some knowledge rather than just flailing in the wind and doing what why OB-Gyn told me to do. 17 years later I really wish I would have had Dr. Haver by my side so I would feel better now. This book is laid out nicely making it very easy to read.

If you are interested in how Menopause is going to affect you this is a must read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for allowing me to read this advanced reader copy of The New Menopause.

I began following Dr Haver about a year ago and Iโ€™ve been obsessed since. Her earlier book is a great resource but this book, wow! I love how it goes through the myriad of symptoms and gives you real world ways on how to handle them. Being able to flip to a symptom that pops up (because letโ€™s be honest, if youโ€™re in this time of life, you know itโ€™s something new everyday) and see what you should be doing to help give you some relief or simply how to address things with your doctor is worth the cost of this book plus some. I canโ€™t recommend this one enough!

Mary Claire Haver, MD's book "The New Menopause" is a comprehensive and empowering guide that demystifies the often misunderstood phase of menopause. One of the book's greatest strengths is its emphasis on empowering women to advocate for their own health during menopause by taking control of their health journey and making informed decisions.

Reading "The New Menopause," I found myself wishing that Dr. Haver could be my own doctor. Her compassionate and informative approach would undoubtedly make navigating menopause a far less daunting experience.

Overall, "The New Menopause" is a must-read for any woman approaching or experiencing this significant life transition. Dr. Haver's expertise and empowering message make it an invaluable resource for women everywhere. I am buying this as gifts for my friends and family. โญโญโญโญโญ

The New Menopause by Dr. Mary Claire Haver is an amazing book loaded full of information. I want to be informed when any of these changes start happening to me and know this book will be a great resource. The way the book is laid out makes it easy to look symptoms up individually or it can be read all at once, the way I did. Dr. Mary Claire Haver has a way of wording medical jargon in an easily digestible way, everything is laid out simply for all to understand. To say I learned a lot from this book would be an understatement and I highly recommend this book for all women.

My knowledge of this stage of life before reading this book was ZERO. Not exaggerating. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ It snuck up on me and I was not prepared. I was wishing for a โ€œMenopause for Dummiesโ€ type of book. Friends had recommended Dr. Mary Claire Haver and like manna from heaven, she was writing a book! ๐ŸŽ‰

If you are facing perimenopause or menopause, this book is a comprehensive guide to everything you need to know. What it is. What it means. The medical landscape you are facing - most doctors were taught nothing in medical school about how to care for you. The latest research on hormonal therapy and an indexed tool kit of every imaginable symptom. Supplements, lifestyle changes, itโ€™s all here. Read this before you visit your doctor, and you will be armed with the tools to advocate for yourself.

Letโ€™s make talking about this less awkward! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป I cannot recommend this book enough. Thanks to @netgalley for the e-arc of this book.

I've learned so much as a follower of Dr. Mary Claire Haver's on instagram and other social media outlets and The New Menopause book is a great resource of information to have as you go through one of the great changes in life. I think women of all ages should read it. I went into menopause thinking it meant the end of periods and possibly hot flashes, but there's so much more to it. This book is a great reference piece and will leave you feeling empowered about informed about how to navigate perimenopause and menopause. As I heard on a podcast, it's a great book for what to expect when you are no longer expecting!

3.5 Stars -

I will start by saying that I am pretty knowledgeable about menopause and the effects of hormones on the body. This book uncovers a lot of myths and stereotypes about women in menopause and the treatments, or lack thereof, that abound. For many women, the reality of this lack of care can cause major health problems. Thankfully, the education around menopause and perimenopause is increasing by the day. This book is a great start to the conversation.

However, this book is not the end-all, be-all for women's hormone therapy. For example, there are MANY intelligent providers who are not registered with the Menopause Society. I would still recommend this book but within the context of realizing there are other options outside of the treatments & information in this book.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I've been looking for answers as I'm going through this stage in life I came across this wonderful book full of answers in a world full of evasiveness for every question and new symptom, the new menopause brings to our lives solutions, hope, and options but mostly a wide variety of answers that I feel will help a lot of women.

when you feel like you have 30 personalities, and you're not yourself anymore, is like someone stole your old self a feeling of no relaxation, the anxiety is like you took some kind of Red Bull but 10x the power.

The new menopause explains truly about this stage that we all go through in life but yet in 2024 we still don't have as much help as we should, menopause after cancer, and after chemotherapy so many questions that are still debated in the medical industry, as well with patients.

This book was a huge eye-opener for me, I've been searching for answers for a long time, and as a cancer patient hormonal receptive, I have received many evasive answers and here I found many solutions that I can finally apply. Another thing that I love about this book and Dr. Mary is that I feel more empowered to ask questions, research more, and ask for help if my oncologist or gynecologist is not helping with answers.

I Recommend this book to every woman who needs hope, and answers, who has heard enough of "it is normal" and not feeling normal at all, especially to women who feel lost at the moment.

Thank you, Netgalley and Rodale Inc. | Rodale Books, for the advanced copy of The New Menopause: Navigating Your Path Through Hormonal Change with Purpose, Power, and, Facts in exchange for my honest review.

โ€œOur bodies are finite and so too are our reproductive years; raging against this truth is futile. What is not futile is gaining an understanding of the changes happening in the body during perimenopause and menopause and then implementing actions and creating habits that will help protect you and potentially prolong your life in spite of these changes.โ€- @drmaryclaire

This book is exceptional for woman in perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause- news flashโ€ฆ the last two are the same. Itโ€™s chock full of essential information as well as tool kits for naturopathic and pharmacological interventions as well as how to talk to your doctor, find a doctor that specializes in menopause, and what tests may be helpful to request.

Anyone ages 36+ should read this book. I will be referring back to it a lot! Thanks @netgalley for this #advancedreaderscopy - pub date is 4/30/24!

This book is a must read and must own for any woman in their 30s and beyond, but definitely women who are trying to understand changes in their body as they enter midlife and what they can do to live a healthier life. Iโ€™ve got a hard copy coming my way so that I can highlight it and bring it to doctorโ€™s appointments. If you donโ€™t follow Dr. Haver on social media I highly recommend it as well. She shares insightful information and is an advocate for those of us entering our menopause era! Thank you to Rodale Books and NetGalley for an advanced look at this much anticipated bookโ€ฆitโ€™s worth the read!

This is the best book Iโ€™ve read on menopause since I started getting symptoms 10 years ago or more. I am a nurse, so I feel like I should already be very familiar with the process, but the author does a great job of explaining why it has not been talked about or researched much until recently. The author is very inclusive of any and all symptoms a woman may experience as she ages and her hormones start shifting and declining. I wish this book were around ten years ago, it would have saved me 9 years of suffering. I say only 9 because I finally found a doctor that listened to me and started me on HRT using implants subcutaneously and so my suffering ended a year ago. Now Iโ€™m able to read this book and be able to tell the readers that this author is 100% correct in what she is writing and that you can trust her to help you. I tried many of the recommendations that were made in this book and got the same results, and it wasnโ€™t until my HRT implantable pellets was I able to feel normal again. If you are reading this book because you need answers on how to identify your own issues and needs, you can trust that this author is being real with you and you can trust her advice 100%.

I was given a copy of this book, from the publisher through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts and views on this book are my own. I was not encouraged or swayed in any way to write a positive review, only an honest one.

I'm not at a place where i need this book yet, but what a helpful tool! Haver lists every symptom and ways you can make it better through diet, exercise, supplements or medicine. Recommend every woman keeping this book on hand for when the inevitable strikes!

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy! It's so nice to see menopause being talked about and in such a way that all women can understand. Well-written and compassionate, it's the only resource you need. Dr. Mary Claire Haver writes this resource to help women advocate for themselves with their own doctor. I would recommend this book for women starting perimenopause and everyone else who is going through this journey in their 40's, 50's, and beyond. "The New Menopause" will be released on April 30, 2024.

Finally! If you're in your late 30's or early 50's and beyond, this book is for you. Dr. Mary Claire Haver, has opened a door that so many gynecologist and general practitioners deemed "suck it up, it's life" with zero help or great information. I feel this book is a power pack of information and resources. The list of symptoms alone is worth the read. All the things we should have known even before this time in our life is covered. It's medically packed with great references, very well written and makes you feel sane. There are so many issues that we as women start having from 35 on the doctors dismiss and Dr.Haver is here to tell you you're not crazy, It's real. This is a book I will be purchasing for my own practitioner as well as a couple of my friends and my sister. Fantastic book on the second phase of our life.

After reviewing Dr. Haver's book The Galveston Diet, I wished that I had that book before I began my menopause journey in 2009. You can check out my review of this not-really-a-diet-book HERE. But when I read The New Menopause, I wished that I had this book back in my early 30s when I began navigating the pre-menopause jungle.

Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a force to be reckoned with on Tiktok and other social media. However, Tiktok is where I found her. She is a board-certified OB/GYN, a Certified Culinary Medicine Specialist, and a Certified Menopause Provider, who uses fact-based research to design the best life for pre- and post-menopausal women. She frequently shares research documents, which then allows her followers to arm themselves with evidence to provide their medical providers.

Part one of the book takes the reader through the history of menopausal medicine and talks about how most of us who've brought up symptoms other than hot flashes to our doctors have had to endure countless tests with normal results. We've probably been told that it's all in our head or that it's the price to pay for aging (This is VERY untrue!).

Part two discusses the symptoms of menopause, possible solutions and strategies, as well as how menopause is affecting your body biologically. She discusses the options for hormone therapy and the pros and cons of each.

Part three, the menopause toolkit, was the most-informative part of the book for me. Dr. Haver lists dozens of symptoms, explains why it's occurring, and the overall strategies available to combat them. These topics include the common menopause symptoms like hot flashes and acne, as well as those that might have been overlooked such as brain fog, heart palpitations, joint pain, and vertigo. Frankly, it was shocking to read through this list to see so many of the symptoms that I had been dealing with for 5 or more years leading up to my hysterectomy and in the years following that I had stopped taking estrogen, because online information was incorrectly telling me that I should get off of it after 5 years.

Like The Galveston Diet, I can't say enough about The New Menopause. While it came into my life too late, it doesn't have to be too late for you. The time is now, no matter if you're in your 30s, 40s, or 50s. You need to arm yourself with solid medical evidence if you intend to talk to your doctor and this is the best place to start. The New Menopause: Navigating your path through hormonal change with purpose, power, and facts is the second book from Dr. Haver due out on April 30, 2024 but available for pre-order.

This book is really. Itโ€™s very relatable in the experiences McCammon shares. I appreciate the wide variety of sources she uses to support what sheโ€™s saying. Itโ€™s a hard book to read, but Iโ€™m really glad to have read it. It is nice to know my experiences and those of my friends around me are not incredibly unusual.
