I signed up for this one on a whim as they needed more tour spots filling...Ignoring the fact that it's the sixth book in the Dune Island series - it can read as a standalone - I found I really enjoyed it.
The dynamic of the family when they realised that Paige was the sole inheritor to her Aunt Violet's cottage was real and relatable.
Narrated across dual timelines Aunt Violet's Locker is a heartwarming read of family, relationships and romance.
And if that hasn't grabbed your attention, the glorious settings of the island certainly will!
Paige inherits a cottage on Dune Island from her great-aunt Violet, whom she has never even met. So you can only imagine how surprised she is when she is notified. Her plan is to fix it up and sell it as soon as possible. She has heard many stories about the Hathaway family that were neighbors to Violet. So when Paige bumps into Seth Hathaway, she begins to think that maybe the Hathaways aren’t so bad after-all. While searching through Violet’s cottage she finds the one and only piece of Violet’s jewelry, a locket and an inscription inside. A romantic message from Violet’s true love. Paige wonders if Dune Island could bring her the happiness she desperately needs. She uncovers a secret of Aunt Violet’s lost love, but is it a secret that would clear her Aunt’s name or should she keep it hidden from everyone forever?
Aunt Violet’s Locket written by author Kristin Harper is a wonderful and emotional story. This story is a phenomenal installment to the Dune Island Series. I always seem to get lost when I visit Dune Island. I am mesmerized by the sea lapping at the shore and the wonderful little village. The details that Harper portrays to the reader will transport you to Dune Island, and you will want to stay for a while. This story, filled with many plot twists makes it intriguing, unputdownable and wonderfully heartwarming. This charming read is exactly what I needed. I loved it. I highly recommend this ten star read.
Having read other books in the Dune Island series I knew I was in for a treat reading this one.
The author writes such warm and relaxing books you know they are going to be great, and she is an auto read author for me.
I discovered her books quite by accident a few years ago when I saw a pretty cover she had on a book and there's been no turning back since then.
Aunt Violet's Locket is a time-slip novel. There is a very short amount of time spent in the past to set up the story, but most is spent in modern times.
Paige recently had a breakup but then she discovers she has inherited an isolated cottage on Dune Island with a front row view of the majestic ocean. She had never met her great Aunt Violet that she inherited it from.
The cottage sits right next to the wealthy Hathaway family mansion. Rumors involving the Hathaway's that have gotten out of hand over the years had caused Violet to become a recluse in her home. As she goes to Dune Island she is guarded and doesn't want to trust the Hathaway's because of past family history. That all may change when she meets Seth Hathaway though. I liked Seth's character; he seemed so friendly and helpful to Paige. Blossom his dog was a real charmer too.
Paige does have some drama going on in her family, a relative's engagement party is stressing out all involved and the little cottage on Dune Island. Hoping to make a few quick repairs and sell it quickly. This is before she visits the island and cottage. Could she possibly be happy here full time? Uncovering Aunt Violet's locket may be just the way to put heartbreaking family secrets to rest. Get the tissues out for this one. It's an emotional story and you say to yourself if only..........
Such a beautiful and heartwarming story, I won't miss any by this author.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.
Bookouture books always keeps me reading, and this one was no different. Aunt Violet's Locket, really intrigued me from the start. I had expectations about the book and was pleasantly surprised, that this book exceeded my expectations.
Aunt Violet lived to be 99 years old, and people knew of Aunt Violet, but did they really know Aunt Violet? You will not believe who Aunt Violet was, the life she had, and the women she was. When I started reading it, I was only going to read for a little while, but I couldn't put it down, it just drew me right in, and at 2 A.M. I finished the book and was so glad I stayed up to finish this book. Kristen Harper wrote the book, with what people had heard, to when Paige arrived, and when she arrived the book changed, to figuring out the clues. I wasn't disappointed, and loved the adventure this book took me on, and I highly recommend reading this book.
I received an ARC from Bookouture through NetGalley.
I love the New England island setting and the history presented in the story,
I thought Paige was a likable character although the same couldn’t be said for some of her relatives.
I could just imagine the setting of the cottage thanks to Harper’s vivid deceptions.
I liked trying to figure out what the story was with Violet and all that she sacrificed.
I anticipated the happy ever after for Paige and knew what decision she would make for the cottage.
The only thing I disagreed with was Paige’s decision about what she discovered about Violet. It was nothing to be kept secret and should have been revealed.
I love this authors writing. And Aunt Violet's Locket by Kristin Harper did not disappoint!
Harper has written another charming story that hooked me from the very beginning.
The story was very well written I thought and the characters were wonderfully developed and so very real, they almost felt like real people at times, not just characters.
The setting is descriptive and alluring.
It will hold your attention and draw you in, taking you on journey I wished didn’t end so soon!
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Paige is flabbergasted when she finds out that she inherited her Aunt Violet’s cottage over everyone in the family because she’s the only non married female in the family. While at the island, getting the cottage ready to put on the market, Paige finds out so much more about the aunt she never knew.
I really enjoyed the story, right when you think you got it figured out, I changes on you. I loved Paige and Seth. I’m shocked that Paige could keep such a cool leveled head when it came to her family, I may have yelled out loud in my frustration.
This book has a little bit of everything.
Love
History
Heartache
Family drama
And of course a dog!
This was a really nice story. It revolves around Paige and her inheritance. It has bit of a mystery about her great Aunt. It’s also a nice romance that is perfect for your spring break reading. This is a really good series
Oh my, what a beautiful heart-melting uplifting story by Kristin Harper! It was like sliding into a pair of warm cosy slippers: welcoming and reassuring. It was both comforting and invigorating with memorable characters, exquisite scenes, exciting surprises and a terrific ending. It brought to the surface many familiar feelings, observances and longings. Who wouldn’t want to escape to Dune Island and live in an inherited cottage by the sea?
This novel focuses on family and a fascinating mystery. Paige is a nurse at a stressful job in the city and she has come through a difficult romantic relationship. When she discovers her aunt has left her a cottage on Dune island, she is shocked as she did not really know her. But when she sets foot on the island, she begins to unravel the life of a woman who was thought by her family to be fairly odd. The truth, though, is quite different from what everyone imagined.
While Paige attempts to get the cottage ready to sell, and her family eagerly waits for a share of the proceeds, Paige stumbles across some unexpected information. She originally had no intentions of staying on the island, but after meeting the locals and particularly a man from a rival family near her Aunt Violet’s cottage, she begins to see life in quite a different light. Will the island do its magic on her and change her mind about selling the cottage?
A real tug of war begins with her family (and in her own heart) as she consults them while providing updates on her aunt’s history. They, of course, are not so interested in the woman they never knew and want Paige to get on with disposing the old cottage to fund their own indulgences. But with all that Paige encounters on the island, it causes her to slow down and take everything into consideration. She begins to discover the real story behind her aunt, her gifts, courage, strength and a romance that nobody knew about. Well, almost nobody. And as she starts to see things she did not notice before, her heart transforms. She finds answers for her own life, the more she uncovers of her aunt’s. Seth Hathaway, is part of that process, too, as he is quite a different man than she originally thought.
This is such a delicious feast filled with love, mystery, new starts, historical secrets, beautiful scenery, fascinating memorabilia, expressive art, lovely islanders, and wonderful life changing connections. I enjoyed all the exploration and discoveries that helped Paige make all the right choices in the end. I love stories that delve into families and their pasts. This one uncovers some moving surprises and highlights the jewel moments of a woman’s life. In doing so, Paige has honoured her Aunt’s memory. The cottage, the old tree, the locket and a few other surprise items (I won’t mention as I don’t want to spoil anyone’s reading experience) create a perfect patchwork story of this woman’s life. These treasures all bring Paige closer to the truth. And the gorgeous old tree that has weathered many storms will forever stand like a ghost beacon to the past—even after it has been uprooted. For it has seen romance, heartbreak, rivalry and ruin. This island icon is a subtle symbol that quietly exudes atmosphere and purpose. I could easily picture it on the horizon—season after season weathering the changes. It is a reflection of Aunt Violet’s life in many ways but also carries a delicate WW2 connection that ties in with the mystery that surrounds her.
I loved everything about Aunt Violet’s Locket. It really captured my heart and made me feel so many emotions. This is an exceptionally delivered family drama that will stay with me a long, long time. An absolute Must-Read. 5 Heartfelt Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my review copy
Who wouldn't want to spend time on Dune Island after reading Aunt Violet's Locket? Kristin Harper won me over with her lovely descriptions and wonderful characters. I swept away to Dune Island and enjoyed being a silent observer in both Paige and Violet's lives. I found this book to be heartwarming, gripping and well written. I have not read the other books in this series and found this book worked perfectly as a stand-alone novel. This book has a little bit of everything: a mystery, romance, a character with a couple of decisions to make and an engaging dual timeline plot!
Paige inherits her aunt Violet's cottage on Dune Island. The cottage has seen better days. Paige has her work cut out for her. The beautiful and relaxing view of the ocean is a blessing as she clears out the cottage and prepares it for sale. Her relatives are chomping at the bit for their share, but a lot of work needs to be done before the cottage will be ready. While on the beach, she meets Seth Hathaway, from a local family. A local family which she had been told had an issue with her Aunt Violet and vice versa. While cleaning the cottage she finds a locket with an inscription which gives her a glimpse into her aunt's life.
I enjoyed the dual timelines and how the plot played out. The setting of this book is lovely, and I enjoyed how the setting paired with learning about her aunt, had a lasting effect on Paige. Sometimes all we need is a new setting to gain perspective. The mystery of the past and Violet's life was gripping and well done. I enjoyed getting to know this clever and intelligent woman more. I also enjoyed getting to know Paige, Seth, and his loveable dog.
What an endearing, wonderful and heartwarming book. I look forward to reading more books by Kristin Harper and more books in this charming series.
Such a wonderful novel!
My feelings on Paige's predicament is; if none of the family members are willing to help then they wouldn't get one red cent if I were to sell. This made me so angry. Her family was lazy and only thought of themselves like Tara. I really didn't like her at all!
So selfish.
I really wish that we could have known Great Aunt Violet better. Seems like she was quite the character.
My heart swelled with pride when I read the real reason Violet did what she did. I was proud of her but sad for her too.
Paige is pretty cool altogether. Even with her family members acting the way they were. I liked how she stood up to them on occasion and yet still cared about them. This is why she's my favorite character.
This has been a fantastic series so far. I've enjoyed them all, but this is my favorite one. I hope there will be more coming. I always enjoy coming back to Dune Island and it has a little history all of it's own.
I have enjoyed this book very much and hated to see it end. I savored this story. It was so very good and it made me want to cry at times.
In Violet's case for the good of the one outweighs the good of the many. An awesome lady in my opinion.
And good things do come to those who wait. Patience and God's timing is the key and trusting too
5 stars.for an amazing read! I highly recommend this sweet story.
My thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
A beautiful story that will take you on a fun adventure.
Main character, Paige, inherits a cottage on Dune Island when her Aunt Violet passes away. Aunt Violets request is that her cottage goes to the oldest single woman in the family. Paige isn’t interested in the cottage except to fix it up and sell it. She plans on sharing the money from selling the cottage with her aunt and cousins. At first everyone agrees to help her work on the cottage and then they all are too busy to help her.
This is a duel timeline story with some interesting history.
It was lovely going on Paige’s journey to find out what she really wanted in her life.
The Dune Island series is one I highly recommend. Each book can be read as a stand-alone.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I enjoyed reading this book. It kept me hooked.
I loved the story, setting and the characters, how Paige wanted to learn as much as she could about her Aunt, the life she lead and what happened to her.
I recommend this book.
This was a brilliant read. Great characters. I loved Paige's tenacity in trying to find out more about her Aunt Violet's life despite her never having met her but who left her her cottage when she died. It really was a captivating story and I loved how the story unfolded, Dune Island gradually captivated Paige's heart. Altogether a wonderful read which was difficult to put down.
I love Kristin Harper's books, and this one was awesome. Could not put it down. Yes, parts of the plot were predictable, but the storyline was completely captivating. I loved the characters, and the journey the story took me on. Highly recommend.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This, book is a true page turner. Aunt Violet's life and legacy are not exactly what they seem. An emotional story looking at families and relationships, then and now.
I couldn't put it down.
This was a wonderful read. I’m loving this series. Each book is a stand-alone and simply wonderful.
I really enjoyed learning about Violet. Her story has been kept secret her whole life and Paige slowly uncovers what really happened and learns a lot about herself along the way.
The way Seth weaves himself into the story is great too. Paige isn’t sure about how she feels and they certainly have a few set backs along the way, but the slowly developing relationship between them is quite beautiful. The island life slowly works its way under her skin and Paige can’t bear the leave.
A lovely read from start to finish.
AUNT VIOLET"S LOCKET is sure to appeal to fans of women's fiction. This is a charming story set in the beautiful coastal location of Dune Island. Many stories begin, of course, with a surprise bequest, especially one with strings attached. The story Kristin Harper tells here feels fresh and inviting. I especially enjoyed the mystery aspect and the historical conflict between the Hathaway and Atkins families. Finding out what happened to Violet and the man she loved kept me turning the pages. Paige's relationship with her own family also evolves as the story progresses -- and of course, Paige gets a love story of her own.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance e-galley; all opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I haven’t read the other 5 books in this series but read Aunt Violet’s book as a stand alone book.
I enjoyed the story of Paige inheriting her great Aunt Violet’s cabin on Dune Island. The terms of her will are as long as she lives in the property full time she is the sole owner of the property. If she chooses to sell the property she must split everything with her brothers and cousins. The property butts up to the mega rich neighbors property.
Paige is given a small box of a few of her aunts personal belongings and in there she finds a small locket with some initials and starts a search looking for whoever gave her aunt the locket. I enjoyed the story of Aunt Violet and the search of the giver of the locket and Paige’s decision on what she would do with the property in the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review ARC.
A gentle, women’s fiction story. It was slow to whet my interest. Paige Taylor is beneficiary of her Great Aunt Violet Atkins estate on Dune Island. It’s a cottage with incredible ocean views, and she must live there year round to retain ownership. Her neighbors are Uber rich and demanding in a nice way. Finding an old locket in her Aunt’s belongings, Paige searches for the Ed who gifted it her. The story is mostly about the past and current dynamics of the Hathaways and Atkins families. There are lots of historical references. I was happy when the mystery of Ed was solved. All in all, this story just didn’t interest me that much.
I honestly reviewed an unedited digital arc provided by NetGalley and Bookouture. All opinions are my own.
