D.K. Hood delivers again with "Dark Hearts," the third installment in the Special Agent Beth Katz series, providing a gripping tale that is sure to enthrall fans of thrillers.

FBI Special Agent Beth Katz finds herself once more in pursuit of serial killers. She harbors a secret unknown to her colleagues at the bureau: she is the notorious Tarot Killer, who exclusively preys on other serial killers. Utilizing her expertise in cybercrimes division, she identifies her targets and methodically removes them, all while meticulously ensuring that no evidence connects her to the crimes.

While searching for her next target, Beth stumbles upon a case involving murders in convenience stores followed by the kidnapping of young women. The details of the case awaken her darker instincts. The subsequent deaths of the kidnapped victims intensify Beth and her Stiles resolve to end this reign of terror.

Dark Hearts was a hit in nail-biting suspense, captivating the reader from beginning to end. The storyline, especially the scenes detailing Beth's personal agenda, was laced with dark undertones. As the story deepened, the intensity mounted, drawing the reader further into the thrilling aspects of this riveting story.

In this installment, readers gain insight into what motivates Beth and the triggers of her dark side. It's astonishing how she seamlessly integrates with her colleagues without them discovering her true persona. Despite being the daughter of a serial killer, her inner darkness remains unnoticed. Yet, there is one individual on the team Beth tries to avoid: FBI Agent Joe Wells, the bureau's leading profiler of serial killers.

I'm truly enjoying this series. The dynamics between Beth and Stiles bring a mix of light-heartedness and emotional depth to the story. I appreciate how she can lower her defenses around Stiles. However, I'm concerned that in doing so, she might accidentally expose her secret. The developing bond between Stiles and Beth is captivating. One can't help but ponder the consequences if Beth's secret were to come to light, and the subsequent effect it might have on her relationship with Stiles.

Overall, this was a solid addition to the series, and I am eager for the next installment.

This is the third book in this new series of books by D K Hood featuring Detective Beth Katz. This series is just as addictive as the series featuring detectives Alton and Kane. Beth is a complex character. We learned in the first book about her secret life. There are two plots to this book, one involving the Convenience Killer and the other the Night Creeper. Beth and her partner Styles are called out to invest a robbery at a convenience store where the killer shoots people dead and kidnaps Cassidy, a young sixteen year old girl. He says he will release her but next day she is found shot dead like other cases they have been investigating. The Night Creeper is a case that Beth has been involved in and is determined to solve in her own way unbeknown to everyone else. This was another great read, full of action and drama with tension building. An great series of books,
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book,

What a way to end that book!! I really don’t know how much longer Beth can keep being Beth! I worry for Styles!!

I love the cameos in this and I loved how this linked to the recent Detective Kane and Alton series. I really love how they all link and I think, personally a series for Jo and Carter would top this off. I do feel for Wolf though, he must be so tired as he is flitting between all the counties!!!!

I just love how different this series feels and is. With Beth’s secret, her job, Styles and his baggage and how dark Ms Hood goes! These murders are not for the faint-hearted!

I also love that there always seem to be two stories running alongside each other. and Beth always has an agenda. We see the main story and then we see Beth. Boy was my heart in my throat at the end! The scene in the hotel eek!

I can’t wait to read Forgotten Girls as it is going to be a personal case for one of our beloved characters. Yes beloved, because seriously I do love Beth and Dax! She is fragile and badass at the same time!

Such a strong series, no idea how it will all end, but there has to be an end at some point. But that fallout will rock everyone’s world.

I have long been a fan of this author's books and when I discovered she was branching out with a new series, was pretty happy about it.

Beth Katz is a different kind of FBI Agent and has more in common with the killers than anyone knows about and when she is tasked with a tricky case involving the kidnapping and murdering of young women, she has to really work at keeping her other persona hidden.

There is a bit of crossover with the author's other series, and that adds to the enjoyment of this book as well, although you don't have to have read that one. It just helps to add depth.

4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

Cassidy Wilder is shocked by the crime scene she and her partner Dax have arrived to see, she is even more surprised by the way the man shot everyone with ease. Then she is shocked when she sees a young girl just walk off with the guy and get into his truck. After her body was found days later Cassidy knows there have to be other cases like this one and she does find many. Now the story picks up and we the readers are stuck to the pages until the end. I enjoyed the story and all of the characters a fantastic book.

Dark Hearts by D.K. Hood is the third book in the excellent Special Agent Beth Katz series and I loved this book, especially as its full of great twists and turns throughout that will have you sitting on the edge of you seat and quickly turning the pages to see what happens next. I just love a series like this - with a great story line with great characters.

I highly recommend this series and another 5 star book

Looking forward to book four.

Big thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for my ARC.

This is the 3rd book in the series. This book was intense. It has twists that I didnt see coming. I liked the personal side of Katz and Styles and learning about their childhood.

I enjoyed this book but I thought the plot was a little convoluted. There were really two separate cases but I thought they were a wee bit too alike. I kept having to backtrack to find out which killer I was dealing with. Apart from that it was a pretty exciting read. I love the originality of this series and look forward to the next book.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

Book three in the Agent Beth Katz series and I was as engrossed in this book as I was the first two.

Hood has a talent of developing interesting and complex characters and making them fit into the roles and stories she writes.

Some cameo appearances by the guys from Black Rock which is another fabulous series by this author.

I was so excited to read book 3 in this series as I’ve read the previous two and enjoyed them immensely.

Beth is itching for her secret to come out and play because a serial killer is hunting and killing young women and girls and so far the local police haven’t been able to stop them but can Beth without being caught herself?.

Beth and Dax have an official case to solve too but yet again can Beth solve both without people seeing her dark side?.

I enjoyed seeing how much Beth and Dax have gelled together and Beth actually enjoys his company and regards him as her partner even though she’s always holding back and never shows her true self.

The case was interesting and at the same time disturbing but Beth soon worked out what the perpetrator’s motive was, all that was left was to catch them.

I couldn’t get enough of this story, it kept me interested all the way through and it was that good it’ll leave you breathless near the end.

I enjoyed learning more about both of our main characters, a couple of things came as a shock but i can see how this could be used in further books as a fantastic storyline.

This is a fantastic series and book, they’re all available to read on KU for free so what are you waiting for?.

Book Review:
Dark Hearts (Special Agent Beth Katz 3) by D.K. Hood
Published by Bookouture, 26th February 2024

FBI agent Beth Katz is a delight to read; she is smart, sassy, and is hiding a secret agenda. Teamed with partner Dax Styles and his dog Bear, Beth is hunting down a serial kidnapper and murderer of young girls in the team's latest case. But what Styles doesn't know is that Beth's alter ego is also putting in hours on another case close to home.

Although this is the third in a series, Dark Hearts also reads well as a standalone as plenty of Beth's back story is explained along the way, without feeling too bulky. There is plenty of suspense, and my heart jumped into my mouth at several points when it looked like Beth's secret may have been uncovered. The cases depicted are torturous, and the author's excellent use of twists and turns and multi-layered characterisation ensures a deeply satisfying read.

After finishing Dark Hearts, you'll want to immediately shut yourself off from the world and read the rest of D.K. Hood's work.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another wonderful installment in the Beth Katz series. The plot is good, the twists it takes are wonderful. Just about the time you think you know where the story is going, another twist! I loved it. I cannot wait for the next book

A twisty and and suspenseful thriller with some real edge of your seat moments. I enjoyed learning more about Beth and Dax's past. I do wonder how long Beth can keep her alter ego hidden from not only Dax, but the sharp minds of Wolfe and Jo Wells. She can't avoid Jo forever.
I'm looking forward to the next book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of Dark Hearts by DK Hood.
This is the third in the FBI agent Beth Katz series.
Young girls are being abducted and then murdered and abandoned in desolate places.
Beth and her partner Dax Styles will do everything they can to save another girl suffering.

Book 3 in the Special Agent Beth Katz series.
Beth Katz and her partner Dax Styles are called into the convenience store robbery that resulted in multiple deaths and the abduction of Cassidy Wilder. Digging a bit deeper they find out that this is not the first time, and then there is the abduction and killing in another area not that far away. Are they connected? Will Beth be able to keep her secret?
In some ways this series is a bit unsettling to me as we never really think of “good” killing – but it keeps drawing me in.

FBI Agents Katz and Styles are investigating the murders of young girls taken during robberies at convenience stores.
There are no witnesses.
This book is a gripping thriller full of suspense and twists. It kept me turning the pages waiting to see how it would end.
The book is part of a series but could easily be read as a stand alone.

Fast paced thriller. Book 3 and I highly recommend you read book 1 and 2 first. There are two crimes they are tracking. Both are horrendous. I love that we get to see the thought process on both the FBI agents and the Tarot Killer. (Yes I know one and the same) We learn more of Beths history, her abuse in foster homes, her memories and lack thereof. We also see the working relationship and friendship between Styles and and Beth. Bear, our 4 legged reacts to Beth at various times that could call attention to her dark deeds of vigilante justice. There were several occasions where Beth almost got caught in her need to take justice and in her need to redivirt some of the thought direction on the Tarot Killer.
It is always a win seeing Wolfe and others. In this book we also see Alton and Kane. The vigilante justice is a moral issue for many and always has me holding back. Additionally with Alton, Kane, Wolfe, Jo and all being so smart I just cannot see her fooling them long term. That always stays in the back of my head. That being said, my personal issues should not affect my review.. That is not fair to the book, For that reason this book is a 5. A page turning thriller that has you holding your breath. Many thanks for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions! I look forward to reading many more books by D.K. Hood. #DarkHearts #SpecialAgentBethKatz #DKHood #Bookouture #NetGalley
