I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Dark Hearts, the third novel to feature FBI Agent Beth Katz of the Rattlesnake Creek Field Office.

Beth and her partner, Dax Styles, are asked to investigate a spree of convenience store robberies, where everyone in the shop is killed and a young girl abducted, only to be found dead the next morning. The killer leaves no clues so it is up to Beth to work her cyber skills and point them in the right direction.

I enjoyed Dark Hearts, which is an action packed read with plenty of twists and turns. The novel is mostly told from Beth’s point of view with a few chapters told from the killer’s point of view. These chapters give an insight into how the young women die, but mostly it’s the usual overweening self confidence of a psychopath (yawn).

Beth and Styles never seem to be out of the helicopter in this novel as they fly from location to location, all small towns with inexperienced sheriffs, trying to identify the killer. There is drama as ME Shane Wolfe gets shirty with this inexperience, and intrigue as Beth tries to link these crimes with another set of murders in the town of Mischief. Needless to say she has an ulterior motive and mischief on her mind. At the same time there is enough action and tension to keep the reader occupied.

I think that this series gives the reader a closer connection to the characters. Beth conceals her true character from Styles and her other colleagues, but she is bonding with them, so I could see her secrets being revealed at some point. In this novel she is particularly reckless and that doesn’t bode well. It is tense and exciting, but still.

Dark Hearts is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Another brilliant crime thriller from DK Hood.
I love this series especially as Beth has two sides to her.
Beth and Styles are called when several people are shot in a local store and a teenage girl abducted.
This killer is on a spree and they know they will find the girl’s body the next day.
There’s also another killer in a nearby town and Beth has him in her sights as The Tarot card killer.
I really like the relationship Beth and Styles have and wonder how long it will be before she shows him who she really is.
This is a great crime thriller and I’d highly recommend this series.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I have read all of DK Hoods books and they just keep getting better. They are totally addictive and hard to put down. Dark Hearts is Book 3 of the new Beth Katz series and I love the way that the characters from the Kane and Alton series are integrated into this series.

I would recommend this book and anything written by D K Hood.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this high octane book

oh my goodness me the thought of a psychopath being an fbi agent murdering other psychopaths is just so untrue but this book is very much like that

katz is that person an fbi agent and a psychopath and now katz and her partner are after a killer, one that strikes in a local store and murders everyone and then takes a hostage who is found the very next day assaulted and very dead

katz will need all her spider senses with this one as she works closely with her partner and with a few surprise guests turning up jenna, dave and wolf....

its always a good day when you have a dk hood book to read and you find one of your mates is in the book as well making an appearance as a store owner... whoop whoop

Agent Katz is one very scary female FBI agent. I almost called her a lady! This is another great instalment to this series. Will she or won’t she catch the killer? Read the book (or the series if you haven’t already) and find out. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

It took me longer than expected to finally try this author, but I've become an instant fan after a fantastic experience with the first two Special Agent Beth Katz books last year. Beth Katz is such an unique main character with her being both FBI and a psychopath serial killer... And I was so excited to be meeting up with both her, Styles and Bear again in Dark Hearts. Book three turned out to be another winner for me! If you enjoy dark, twisted and intense serial killer thrillers, this series will take you on a wild ride indeed.

Before I continue, I have to stress that this is definitely a series to read in order. While technically the cases discussed in Dark Hearts are completely separate, you won't be able to appreciate Beth Katz in all her glory without having the background knowledge of the first two books. It will also be a lot harder to understand the dynamics between Beth and the rest of the characters... Both books are excellent reads in the first place, so well worth your time if you haven't read them already. I really enjoyed meeting up with the different characters again in book three, and there is time for some personal developments in between hunting serial killers as well.

One of the things I love of this series is the Montana setting. The small towns, the forest, the many secluded locations; they all offer so many possibilities for the plot, and they also make for a great backdrop. Things can be said about just how credible it would be to have this many serial killers lurking around, but as long as I get to see Beth Katz in action I'm not complaining. Dark Hearts once again has TWO serial killers in the spotlight (not counting our main character of course). I like how we get to follow the official FBI investigation as well as the special side project of our very own serial killer FBi agent, although this time around the lines are more blurred.

There is no doubt that Beth Katz is the star of the show, and she definitely makes this series stand out from other serial killer thrillers. We learned a little more about her background and childhood this time around, although the main focus is on the present. Both her actions and thoughts are fascinating, and it's strangely easy to root for her considering she is basically a serial killer. I also love the growing connection with her partner Dax Styles and his dog Bear, and they both complement the main character very well.

The first book is still the strongest for me, but Dark Hearts will no doubt get your heart racing. If you are able to suspend your disbelief and love a dark, action-packed and thrilling ride, you will be in for a treat! I did feel that Beth Katz was taking a bit too many risks in dealing with her 'special project', and I wondered how credible her actions would be considering she was being so careful in the past. But I guess the whole danger of her being discovered would never become more real otherwise. Like Shadow Angel, this book is mostly a more straight-laced FBI investigation, and only a small part is our main character taking things in her own hands. I kind of missed having more of her dark side, but Dark Hearts was still very much an entertaining read. And after those hints at the end, I can't wait to read the next book!

Love,love,love this series.
This is the third book of Agents Beth Katz and Dax Styles. I couldnt wait for this one as i throughly enjoyed the first two. When women keep going missing and ending up dead up and down the country, there seems to be a pattern emerging, or does there? All the women have been shot.. Beth and the team are bought in to solve the case.. Is it.one killer or more? And they always seem to be one step ahead. Will Beth be able to keep her dark side hidden. It shocked me to find out who was comitting these despicable crimes. Highley recommend, its gritty and something to get your teeth into

By now, this being the the third book in the Beth Katz series, I know what to expect. Solid and interesting characters in Beth Katz and her FBI colleague Dax Styles, lot of crime with a serial killer on the prowl (but without getting graphic) and reasonable procedures.

There are a spate of convenience store robberies and murders in three communities. Many customers and store employees are dead. In each case one woman is kidnapped, to be later discovered dead in the woods after facing abuse. The FBI director asks Dax Styles to investigate these cases. There is no evidence left at the crime scenes. Beth Katz understands serial killers better than most and builds a profile & list of suspects. She uses technology to narrow down the list based on their sightings & movements. The problem remains though that there is no evidence and their best hope is if the killer slips up in conversations or is caught during a next act. There is also a serial killer in the nearby Mischief town where a few women have been murdered. Beth is of the view that they need to see if these crimes are related.

This book builds on what Beth went through growing up after her father murdered her mother, and later being in foster care. There is a new revelation regarding Dax Styles’ sister who went missing in childhood, and I suspect the following books will build on this. The story moves very fast, and is very easy to read. The crimes are horrendous, though the descriptions are not too graphic and should not be a problem for most readers. The strength of the series is the characters of Beth and Dax – their distinct styles, courage and conviction.

Looking forward to the next book in the series.

I am really enjoying this series with Katz and Styles. D.K. Hood has a brilliant style of writing that grips you from the first page and draws you in. It’s great to see the relationship developing between Katz & Styles. A fast paced full of tension edge of your seat storyline that I couldn’t read quick enough. I really liked the mentions of the Black Rock Falls team and the interaction between the two different series. I can’t recommend this series and author highly enough. Can’t wait for the next book..

FBI agent Beth Katz and her partner Dax Styles are back!!!!! Woohoo! I had high hopes coming into this book and D.K. Hood did not let me down. I found this book to be thrilling, gripping, thought provoking, suspenseful, and hard to put down. In this book they are hunting a diabolical and crafty serial killer. I was fully invested in this book from the very beginning and my attention never wavered. I enjoyed the pacing, the writing and the sense of danger, and the characters.

Beth Katz is such an interesting character. Not only is she and FBI agent but she is the daughter of a serial killer and a vigilante killer! Whew! Talk about a lot going on in someone's life. Beth is a strong cookie who doesn't back down, she is intelligent, crafty, and strong. Dax Styles is also a great character. He is charming, smart, dedicated to his job, and very observant. I enjoy their working relationship. There is some sexual tension between them and while it is fun to read, I hope they never cross that line.

I love books with tension and suspense and this book had both. I liked the cat-and-mouse in this book. There is a sense of danger and unease that flows throughout the book. Will the killer strike again? Will Beth and Styles solve the case? I enjoyed being a silent observer watching Beth and Styles hunt for a killer while Beth was also trying to hide her "secret" life as a vigilante. This kept things interesting and tense.

Although this book could be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend going back to the beginning of the series. It provided a lot of Beth's backstory which I feel would make this book even more enjoyable.

Gripping, well written, suspenseful, and hard to put down!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Beth Katz and Dax Styles, both FBI agents in rural Montana, have another potential serial case on their hands... and Beth might have found another one. Women/young girls are being abducted from convenience stores across many counties. As Beth and Dax try to narrow down potential suspects, Beth's spidy senses are tingling about another string of murders that no one has tied together yet. With great character ties in from the Kane and Alton Series, Dark Hearts is a wonderful read - and trip to rural Montana. The authors descriptions are so real - and the dialog between the two partners realistic and honest. A great series to look forward to! Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

I am really enjoying the series featuring agents Katz and Styles. We learn a bit more of their background in this latest episode, which is filled with tension. The storyline is centred around a serial killer and the Montana setting is beautiful. Is someone figuring out the identity of the Tarot Killer I wonder? Roll on the next in the series which I can highly recommend. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Dark Hearts is the 3rd book in the Special Agent Beth Katz series by D.K. Hood. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone or as part of the series. I recommend reading the series because it is so good! This series is connected to the Detectives Kane and Alton series and shares characters.

I am obsessed with this series and Dark Hearts did not let me down. This fast paced book had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next.

Beth is such an interesting character, FBI Agent by day, serial killer/ vigilante avenger whenever the time is right. I find it fascinating that I love this character.

I love that this is tied into the Detectives Kane and Alton world. I love the overlap of characters and situations.

This is such a fascinating read and I absolutely recommend it!!!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Special Agent Beth Katz #3

When a robbery at a local store ends with multiple deaths and the abduction of a sixteen-year-old schoolgirl, Cassidy Wilder, FBI agents Beth Katz and her partner Daz Styles are called in. Visiting Cassidy's family home just a couple of blocks away from the quiet little store where she went missing, Beth's heart breaks as she talks to her grieving patents and promises to find their daughter.

I'm really enjoying this v=new series about serial killers/ Beth knows how their mind work as her father was a serial killer, But FBI agent Beth Katz is also a serial killer, and leaves at the scene of the crime, a Tarot card by the body. We get to know a bit more about Beth and her partner, Daz Styles. There is a spate of robberies where the robber shoots the customers in the convenience store and takes a young girl hostage. Some characters from the Detective Kane and Alton series make an appearance in this book. I like the author's writing style, and God knows where she gets her fabulous ideas on what she writes about. Although I really shouldn't, I root for Beth all the way.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #DKHood for my ARC of #DarkHearts in exchange for an honest review.

When the hunter becomes the hunted!

Will this be the end for the Tarot Card Killer?

Book 3 in the Katz and Styles serves up two cases for this duo chasing down serial killers, one a cold killer, the "convenience store killer". Beth, AKA the Tarot Card Killer, has her eyes on another serial killer and hatches a plan to investigate the case, but will this second killer be apprehended by law enforcement or be taken out by vigilante justice? sorry, not giving any spoilers here.

In true D.K Hood style, it is fast paced, at times edge of your seat action. I love these characters, in addition to the cross over characters from the Kane & Alton Series - Wolf and his team, and Jo & Carter, with Kane and Alton also making an appearance in this book.

Heart pounding and jaw dropping from the moment you pick this one up. Brutal violence spanning several small counties and no end in sight. Two killers and a team we have come to love to solve this. A combination of vigilante justice and solid police work.
This book is unstoppable. It races at a breakneck speed making it impossible to put down. I was horrified at this one. I read it in one sitting as I had to know how it ended. I adore the characters and the plot was phenomenal
This is a must read

LOVE IT! Dark Hearts by DK Hood is the 3rd book in the series with Beth Katz.

I love the different perspective of Beth Katz being both FBI and a vigilante serial killer that rids the population of murderers that have escaped proper justice. It keeps you wondering about the character development but also about the murder at hand. I just want to know will Beth be able to continue playing both sides of the spectrum or will she get caught! I am hooked on the series for that alone!

The supporting characters are easy to like and feel attachment to. You get some character cross over from the Kane/Alton series and therefore it is fun to see the outsider perspective of some of our favorites from the other series.

I highly recommend this book. It could be read as a stand alone but i highly recommend delving into the entire series and start book one to see the growth and development. While you are at it, read the Alton/Kane series too!

Fantastic book and series. Run out and get your copy right now!

Thank you to NetGalley, DK Hood and Bookouture for the eARC.

Another crackling thrill ride filled with twists and shocks that will surprise you!! What a thrill ride this book was…I had no idea who was the killer right up until the very end, and boy was I surprised…I had figured it was someone else. Again we got to spend some time in Black Rock Falls with a quick appearance by Dave and Jenna, and I adore the budding friendship between Beth and Wolfe. Fans of DK will love this newest installment in the Katz and Styles series

Another thrilling instalment in this series. Beth Katz is an FBI agent, but also a serial killer. But she only kills killers that have slipped through the net. There is a lot of cross over with D K Hoods other characters. It is interesting to watch the character development between these cast members.
I am looking forward to future developments.
