"Missing Before Daylight" by Carolyn Arnold is a gripping addition to the Detective Amanda Steele series. The flawed protagonist, Amanda Steele, adds a layer of relatability to the story, making her character more authentic and engaging. The intricate plot, centered around a murder and a personal abduction, keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Arnold skillfully weaves a web of suspense, introducing dangerous enemies and a race against time. With its well-developed characters and compelling storyline, this book earns a solid 4.5 stars.

Disclaimer- I’m leaning towards rooting for an Amanda and Trent relationship #justsayin

When I read series, something funny happens to me. I don't know whether you feel the same, but I start seeing the recurring characters as real people and maybe even a bit as friends. I laugh and cry with them, want the best for them and want to support them when they feel down.

That's why I always hold my breath when something happens to them even though I know they will come out on top and why I would want to have a conversation with Amanda about matters of the heart. :)

She went through so much heartache already and she deserves all the happiness in the world. Maybe she feels like she has found it, but I don't feel it. I think she settles for second best, because she is afraid to dive into it. I keep hoping she will come to her senses ;) :)

But apart from that there is the case she and Trent have to solve. It's one close to home and that always makes it more emotional.

I love the energy between this duo of marvelous detectives and they complete each other, well completely. :)

Another great addition to this amazing series. Please keep them coming. 5 stars

Thank you

During the predawn hours, a young clerk in a gas station convenience store is shot dead and a former colleague of Amanda’s, Katherine Graves, is abducted. Katherine has been involved in many high profile cases in her time and there are any number of nefarious characters who could be involved. It seems very personal as the perpetrator tells her “it’s time to pay for what you did.” Amanda and partner Trent work tirelessly to solve the case, but will their feelings for each other impede their progress?

This is the tenth in the Prince William County (VA) Detective Amanda Steele series. Although I have read quite a few of them and have enjoyed seeing the repeating characters and relationships change and grow, I think this would work well as a standalone. The author does a nice job of filling in background information, including Amanda’s past history and references to some other cases she has worked.

Told in two POVs, Amanda’s and Katherine’s in captivity, this is yet another of Arnold’s fast paced, engrossing police procedurals. Arnold knows how to capture and maintain her readers’ interest. I love the repeating characters, especially Amanda who, despite an earlier tragedy in her life, is a strong, capable, independent, empathetic female.

Carolyn Arnold is one of my go to authors. She has written more than thirty books featuring five series and spanning different genre including strong police procedurals, cozy mysteries, and adventure novels. I also really like her Madison Knight series.

Detective Amanda Steele is called to the scene of a murder and kidnapping. The kidnapped woman is a former colleague. Has someone taken her in retaliation for being jailed? Amanda and her partner Trent have to sift through old cases to find clues.

I really like the constant action and Amanda's gut feelings in the book. There is an electricity between Trent and Amanda that cannot be ignored, but Amanda is involved with Logan, and loves him.
I recommend this book for it's fast pace and unravelling of clues.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

4/5 stars from me.

Another awesome book in this series. Amanda and Trent are called to a gas station for a shooting, only to discover that one of their own was abducted during the shoot out. Now it is a race against time to find Katherine, before the kidnapper kills her. But, as a cop, she has made many enemies, and finding one who wanted revenge more than the others is a struggle.
Love these characters, with real feelings and emotions. The sprinkle of the romantic triangle between Amanda, Trent and Logan is always a good side story. Truly looking forward to the next book. Highly recommend both the book and the series.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

One of my favorite authors…murder and mystery…even the title is intriguing…this is a page turner with secrets and red herrings. This talented author has written a page turner. The protagonist is a familiar character in this series…I do not miss her stories. I read them asap. The realistic characters keep the story moving quickly even from page one. No waiting for suspense in this book. No waiting for it to get better. Immediately, the novel catches the attention of the reader. This is a cannot put down story that would make a good movie. Thanks Netgalley.

Missing Before Daylight - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

A compelling 10th case for Detective Amanda Steele, Missing Before Daylight deals with a seemingly straightforward gas station hold-up gone horribly wrong, but thinking that would be massively oversimplifying things.

Amanda's relationships past and present threaten to derail the homicide and kidnap investigation, that has more twists and turns than a Chubby Checker Dance-athon.
Secrets and lies blur the edges and the denouement will shock and surprise you.
