I enjoyed this cozy mystery set in a bed and breakfast. I don't think I've every read one with that setting before.

Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the eARC.
The first in a series, this was a great start and I'm looking forward to reading more.
It's a cozy read with a very likeable protagonist, Hannah, and I love that there's a dog and a cat in it. The setting of Vermont is wonderful and the gardening bits were quite interesting and oh yes, there's a murder! A very enjoyable book and I hope there are many more to come!

Murder on Devils Pond is the first entry in this new bed and breakfast mystery. After fifteen years away, Hannah Solace returns home to renovate and reopen an old victorian inn. She strikes up an unlikely friendship with Ezra Grayson, an 80 year old recluse who lives nearby. His niece and nephews come to town to try and convince him to sell his ramshackle house that is sitting on some valuable land. When Ezra is murdered, Hannah finds his body and becomes one of the prime suspects and has no choice but to do some investigating to clear her own name and find justice for her old friend. This was a fast paced book with likeable characters, lots of red herrings, and a big protective dog. I was surprised by who the murderer turned out to be. I can't wait to read the next book in this promising new series!

Returning home…secrets…red herrings…family and friends…murder…all of this adds up to a page turner. A talented author has written a cannot put down novel. An elderly man found dead…starting over…enjoy trying to discover who did the murder. Thanks Netgalley.

The version of this provided had issues with formatting that made it really hard to read in kindle. It made it hard to follow the story over all in some place because of the line breaks. Other than that I did quite enjoy this book cozy mysteries have been evil moving recently to not have so many not the extreme troupes such as female competition for no reason other than hate main character which greatly improved its like ability to me.

I rated this book 4 stars on good reads but our version 3.

I really enjoyed this mystery. It has a lot of elements of a cozy mystery but has a realism that I think makes it not exactly a typical cozy one. There is a realism to this book in the gruesome nature of murder and life without being graphic. Hannah has a passion for the environment and befriends one of her fathers former friends when returning to town a few years earlier. She works with her sister to dig into his past and finds more than one to work through. There was also a hint of romance for the future. Thank you NetGalley for the copy to read in exchange for my honest opinion.

I've been really getting into cozy mysteries lately. I don't know if it's the weather or the time of year, but they are really speaking to me. I was immediately drawn in by the gorgeous cover and by the time I was done reading the synopsis I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy. I grew up visiting Vermont every year and the setting was described very accurately and gave me quite a bit of nostalgia. By the end of this book I wanted to move to a small town in Vermont, even though this was a murder mystery. Usually I can guess at least part of the plot, but I had no idea how this book would end until the last 5%. I basically couldn't stop reading once I started, and I was pleasantly surprised by the complex character interactions mixed with rich imagery of the natural beauty surrounding this dark and tragic event. I can't wait to read more from this author!

This was a very cozy and intriguing read and I feel like this book is an amazing start to the new ‘Bed and Breakfast Mysteries’ series. The plot was very interesting and kept me guessing the entire time; I truly didn’t see the end coming, which isn’t always the case with cozy mysteries, so I really liked that. However there were quite a few spelling and/or typing mistakes throughout the book. I can read past those though, so it didn’t bother me too much. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

#MurderonDevilsPond #NetGalley is the start to a new cozy mystery series and this first book is fantastic.
Hannah Solace has returned home to Vermont, to take on the role as manager and co-owner of a small inn, with her sister, Reggie.
Reggie is a hard character, she's determined, independent, and seems to forget Hannah is an adult. Hannah and Reggie have their own opinions, but the author did a great job with the family conflicts.
Hannah doesn't have a lot of time while she's renovating the inn, but she's struck up a friendship with Ezra Grayson, an eighty-year-old recluse who lives nearby.
He may appear prickly, but he and Hannah have a unique relationship and it really adds to the story.
It seems Ezra may have some secrets, but before he has a chance to confide in Hannah, his life is cut short, in fact he's murdered, and Hannah is the one to find his body.
Hannah is devastated, and she's determined to find out who killed her friend, especially when she realizes she can be considered a suspect.
Ezra's family is determined to get their hands on his property, but that won't happen, especially if Hannah has anything to say about it.
This is exactly the type of cozy mystery I love. It has a wonderful cast of supporting characters, the main character is immediately likeable and the mystery was well done.
I had some parts figured out, but the reveal was shocking.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of the book.
I'm looking forward to reading more and I'm happy to recommend it to other readers.

The start of a new cozy mystery, Hannah Solace has moved back to her home town, opened an inn and reconnected with family and friends. Having struck up an unlikely friendship with elderly and cantankerous Ezra Grayson she’s devastated to find him murdered. Hannah’s found the body and was last to see him alive so she decides to investigate. This first book neatly sets up future scenarios between her family, friends, and love lives. I like it because the characters are more mature and the writing is mature, not silly.
