The layout of the book was well designed and I thought that the illustrations were so beautiful!! The stories were also really interesting; my favorite was the one about Tulips. It's such a bittersweet story, but beautifully written!

Beautiful stories of flowers, and great portrayals of their culture and folklore. Includes many flowers that are not typically in other books while still including some of the most popular plants. Highly informative

I really enjoyed reading about folklore from other parts of the world. I didn’t really identity with the tasks at the end of each story. They felt redundant.

Beautiful book! I enjoy that the flowers are arranged by season and that it's not just the folklore, but also a ritual and meaning for each flower. Would make a nice gift.

Thank you Leaping Hare Press and NetGalley for the digital ARC of Floral Folklore.

I was immediately hooked as soon as I saw the title. It was calling me like a candy shop to a child. I just knew that I would enjoy it in my spare time, hot tea on my other hand, rain pouring outside the window. This is the coffee table book everyone with a cottagecore heart needs in their home.

The way it's formatted is the same; divided into four seasons, each bloom will have one botanical illustration of its own, an interesting folktale taken from around the world, and a tutorial of flowery ritual for those who practice it. I personally don't need the ritual tutorial, but I can see it would help many readers. Most of the stories are the ones I've never heard of at least until today, but some (like Narcissus and Sunflower) are more well-known. The retelling style itself is quite flowery/purple prose-y, maybe to add and unify the word count so it fits the page, but they're really fun to read out loud so I don't really mind. Some of my favorites are Rhododendron, Columbine, and Iris. Although relatively less detailed than what I expect, the illustrations are pretty and do match the vibe.

If you love folklores and everything magical and floral, or need a thoughtful gift for someone just like that, I gladly recommend this cozy book.

As a practicing pagan I love to learn about the history folklore and lore of plants and the natural world. The Floral Folklore book is so much more than facts and historical points about the folklore and tales surrounding some of the more common and popular flora and fauna. Alison Davies delves deep into these tales and weaves an emotive and almost haunting recollection of the tales.
Broken into seasons each section is beautifully illustrated and is sure to become a staple. It definitely has re-readability. It’s hard to go in great detail without spoilers but let me say if you enjoy folklore and herbs, plants or gardening this is a must for the coffee table or book shelf.

Floral Folklore is a joy to read, well written and full of fascinating information. Alison Davies displays a passion for plants and folklore which is impressive, she itemises many plants giving their Latin and generic names while supplying meanings and interesting stories relating to them. The pictures are beautifully presented and it is written in a warm, easy style. I recommend the physical book as it would be a great coffee table book and also a lovely thing to dip into of an evening. I can highly recommend to any reader who loves gardening, stories and lovely pictures. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review Floral Folklore.

This book is absolutely wonderful!

The epigraphs contain core facts about each plant, including latin name, the meaning of the plant and the origin of the tale. Each plant has its own story, retold in a comprehensive and engaging style

At the end of each section there is an activity related to the plant should you wish to undertake it

All in all, a pleasant book to engage with

Floral Folklore was a really fun book. I could definitely see this book being read as a night time story. Each story was short and simple but you could tell that the author did a lot of research into the history. I love that the author included the origin of each folklore as well as some rituals related to the flowers.

The artwork was very beautiful within the book. As I was reading, I felt like I was reading a botanist’s journal with their field notes.

I have been getting into herbalism and this book was a nice addition. although it does not give much information on the use of these plants it does give a good amount of folklore which is a great addition to my knowledge.

Firstly I'll start by saying I absolutely adored this book and will definitely be buying a copy when it's released.
The book is split into the seasons with a number of flowers making up each section. Each flower states the common and botanical names, a brief description, the origin of the folklore story, the story itself and a ritual you can do with the plant.
Filled with botanical illustrations this book gives a unique and inspiring look at the flower world

Floral Folklore is a great nonfiction book for lovers of gardening, fantasy, and folklore. You'll learn about 40 different plants exploring not only the outer beauty of flowers, but also the historical context in centuries of gardening.

There are beautiful illustrations for each flower and offers engaging narratives to capture the essence of each species. If you're planning a garden and have a love for information, this is a great book to have even if you want to keep it as a coffee table read.

I wholeheartedly recommend "Floral Folklore" not just as a read but as an experience, a beautifully crafted bridge between our world and the ancient, whispered secrets of the plant world.

This will be a lovely book to read in spring for others that love mythology, folklore and whimsical stories as the flowers start to bloom. I really enjoyed the illustrations, and that on every new flower it tells us a description of what the flower looks like, what the flower means and the origin of the folklore. I also appreciate that there are diverse stories/origins. Overall, the stories were really enjoyable/easy to read and if you love mythology, this is a great book for you.

A sweet, short book, Floral Folklore takes the myths and folklore of some flowers and plants and entrances the reader with worldly wisdom from the past and present. The mythos behind flowers and plants have fascinated me for years and I'm glad I found this book. Alison Davies hit the nail on the head with this concept and presents a wholesome book perfect for a rainy day or those interested in the plants in their garden.

The book, overall, is beautiful with lovely illustrations and vast amounts of wisdom and knowledge behind every flower and plant—a must-read for any green-thumbed fiend.

I feel very connected to this book. I love the flowers that surround us and learning about them is always a joy. This book is different in that the author is able to take common flowering plants that many will be familiar with and tell the folklore that surrounds them.

The book itself is beautiful and I cannot wait to purchase a hard copy for my home.
