This is exactly the book I’ve been wanting for my son. It blend nature, animals, and environmental conservation discussion well and on a palpable level for children.
My son is almost 5, and he enjoyed every step of this book and never lost interest.
Wonderful look into the world of conservation for young readers! Even as a wildlife educator myself, this book was full of stories that were new to me.
This book provides 3-4 page insights into several examples of how humans have worked together with their environment to redesign our relationship with the natural world for the better - and to help many species survive and thrive. These stories along with their incredible illustrations would make fantastic quick reads and prompts for discussions at bedtime.
I highly recommend this read for littles interested in nature, educators, or anyone looking for a quick and cozy insight into the amazing conservation work being done around the world.
Thanks NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the ARC of this book.
Thank you for the advance copy! What a beautiful book! As I am reading it to my 5 year old I keep thinking which stories would interest my class of kindergartners. What a wonderful way to start the conversation about protecting our Earth. Thank you for making this book.
A wonderful book about conservation and how to allow nature to be nature. This was a bit intense for my kindergartner. It is more on the level of my middle school and junior high boys.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received this book in exchange for a honest review from NetGalley.
We absolutely loved this beautifully illustrated bedtime story collection. These lovely educational stories about rewilding the world are soft and perfect for bedtime. My family who are Dutch absolutely love the inclusion of Nijmegen and the rewilding of the areas around the dikes. I was an excellent way to help my niece understand the need for wild places.
Rewild the World at Bedtime by Emily Hawkins is a compilation of 20 short bedtime stories, presented as short fairy tales, about at-risk animals across the globe. Often beginning with “Once upon a…” time/place, each tale is only a few pages long and filled with facts about wildlife, ecosystems, and ways we have already brought about positive change to support the animals we coexist with. This is ultimately a book of hope to be shared with our children, reading to them about the delicate balance of our environment and our responsibility to it.
A wonderful collection of stories from around the world. Each is designed to showcase ways diverse places and humans have learned to work with nature, not against. Beautifully illustrated, I imagine each story leading to discussion and appreciation. Heck, while aimed at children, this book is a great read for anyone who cares about our world and nature. Rather than made up, fantastical stories to entertain, these use reality to both entertain and inform. The illustrations are lovely, well thought out, and each story is illustrated with fascinating artwork, some of it along the edges (all with labels) as well as full scenes as the story closes. In other words, lots to see and hear and there's even a glossary and index.
I won't even try to pick a favorite story although I'm partial to wolves, so that one piqued my interest. So, too, did the info on the water buffalo project in Ukraine as I couldn't help but wonder how the war may be impacting these efforts. That's one probably unintentional way of reminding us that nature and man's efforts are always in flux and we need to pay attention. I should add that each story is short, 4-6 pages, with most in the four page range. All are positive and generally uplifting, maybe even inspiring as the world's resilience is again and again showcased. This would make a lovely gift for both child or adult, quite frankly. Thanks #NetGalley and #QuartoPublishingGroup - #WideEyedEditions for sharing this with me. The cover is beautiful.
Beautiful illustrations and wonderful informative stories for bedtime, or anytime, with the kiddos! It’s extremely important that we teach the younger generations conservation and how important it is,
as there is only one Earth. We have to start taking care of her!
I love these short stories about environmental and habitat restoration around the world. This book is full of hope and great for all ages. The illustrations are nice, and I even love the font.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
This is a magical collection of childrens stories, beautifully illustrated throughout, informative and reassuring. The various stories from around the globe welcome the reader into our natural world as if it were magical kingdom. Here are tales of rewilding, repopulating and reintroducing animal species. The stories connect children to nature and wildlife in a way that is reassuring and positive about environmental concerns. This is a beautiful compendium of positivity that is much needed to show children that action is being taken to protect the environment and their is hope for endangered species.
Aweee this is so cute! I read this to my daughter last night as she was going to bed and she loved it! I highly recommend for a bedtime sort of story for kids. Easy to understand!
This book is the perfect way to teach littles about endangered species and conservation! These stories and the accompanying art are incredible
More than 40,000 unique species are currently threatened with extinction. From Colombia to Indonesia, and everywhere in between, animals are facing environmental changes caused by human activity. It’s never been a better time to teach kids all about the power of conservation.
This enchanting read soothes little ones with 20 bedtime stories about rewilding projects from across the globe that are bringing animals back to the wild.
And when these animals are rewilded, nature starts to heal itself, giving us all hope for a brighter future ahead.
Very sweet book you can read to your children at bedtime. Each story starts with a problem and ends with it solved when people work together to fix the problem. The stories are long enough that just one story a night would be fun to read to your child at bedtime.
I loved this book. It is the perfect book to read to a small child who does not have a long attention span. Each story is self-contained and had lovely artwork to maintain focus. They are also short enough to read when you only have a short time to read. It has a format that children are used to reading and that parents can read an entire story each night, so you don't have to worry about finishing the next chapter before going to sleep.
For those who love nature and learning about nature, no matter what age you are, you should read this, You can learn about how we can help nature and the wildlife in your area.
If I had a small child or grandchildren, I would give them a copy of this book.
A collection of children-friendly, beautifully illustrated, interesting stories about animal species that became endangered and the projects undertaken to restore their numbers in the wild. As a conservation graduate, I find this a great topic to introduce to children and this book does it beautifully! I particularly loved the chapter on lynxes and the one about humpback whales.
Such a beautiful book! The artwork is just gorgeous and I loved using the stories to teach about what we humans can do to help save our natural world. I’d definitely buy a copy of this wonderful book.
Thanks to the author and publisher for the e-arc I received via NetGalley.
This book is beautiful. It provides 20 short stories about how animals and their environments were impacted by various events around the world, from Yellowstone USA, to Ukraine, and Argentina. My 5 year old absolutely loves this book. We will be rereading it frequently. He asks so many questions in his process to connect the dots these stories bring up. Such a great book!
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of this amazing book.
Beautifully illustrated with a wealth of information from different locations and the animals that live there. Perfect for young minds. I will be ordering a copy to read with my class.
Rewild the World at nighttime offers wonderful insights for curious children. It could be a child's non fiction, teaching them about preserving wildlife and nature in a child-appropriate way. The chapters are a perfect length to be read to youngsters at nighttime without them losing interest or dozing off and are great conversation openers. I particularly loved the illustrations, they are quite busy and leave a lot to discover.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of this beautiful book.
First off, the illustrations are gorgeous. The colors are so pretty, I want to hang the pages on my wall.
I read this with my 5 year old who loves non-fiction books about animals. The stories were uplifting and we loved hearing about how people are working to save our planet. The stories kept him engrossed as well as being something I enjoyed reading to him (which isn’t always the case with children’s books!). It was fun to learn about new animals and places. He’s excited to take what he learned and help out, and I’m excited he’s excited.
