Reading this book was fun and light but also informative about Norway’s entrance into WW2 and Ambassador Harriman’s role in representing the US during that period. I found the creation of the wild niece Cleo added youth and romance to the story but also took away from a sense of what was historical and what was fiction. I hope the book does well!
An interesting story with a different perspective. The characters were well done and the setting draws you in. A must read for historical fiction fans.
I found this piece to be exceptionally well-crafted, and I'm eagerly anticipating the opportunity to delve into more works by this author. Given its potential popularity among our library patrons, we're certainly looking forward to adding it to our collection
This book centers around a real woman, Daisy Harrington, the US minister to Norway in 1940 and her fictional goddaughter, Cleo. The action takes place in the early days of World War II as the Germans invade neutral Norway. The Norwegians resist. The royal family goes into exile or hiding. The US is involved, the minister is deeply involved, staying close to the Royal family as they run.
