A fennec fox's determination to become famous leads him to a family he wasn't expecting.
Zoodini is a fennec fox determined to escape from the Topeka and Animal Amusement Park with his friend, Hoppy. Zoodini's escape is foiled when he is caught and transferred to a new place. Zoodini and Hoppy arrive at Twin Animal Sanctuary and Drive-in Movie Theater. At first, Zoodini is not impressed with new home.
Zoodini learns of a plan to get rid of the diner and them. Zoodini forms familial attachments and comes up with a plan.
PJ Gardner book tugs your heart strings. Zoodini's desire to be accepted and love resonates with readers of all ages. A highly recommended read with a happy ending.
Let's talk about the drawings. They are black and white and super cute. However, I wished there had been more and added a little color. The cover of the book is adorable, and that is one reason why I picked this book to read. The drawings inside are not the same and could be better.
There is a part in the book when they are all dressed as Grease characters, which is a great addition. The funny sayings in this book are hilarious. "Butter my butt and call me a biscuit!" and "Make like a baker and haul buns!" and only a few of the funny sayings.
If you need a book that addresses fitting in, having a home, keeping friends, selfishness, and making good choices, this book will do all of those and more. The only negative, and it is only due to my age group, is that I wish they had not named the salamanders "hellbenders." This word causes problems, and I had to address it and talk about how we should not use it. I am hoping this might get changed to something like airbenders.
Overall, I give this a solid four stars and will read it to my class next year. It will also be part of my class library. I would have given five stars if the drawings had been better and the one word had been omitted or changed.
An uplifting, funny, and fast-paced read led by the most hilarious and sweet animals who live in an animal sanctuary.
After knowing only rejection Z (Zoodini, not Zucchini ahah) finds his way to an animal sanctuary where amazing sweet Linda and her not-so-nice cousin Tim take care of animals that no one wants, but Linda recognizes their value and loves them.
First Z thinks of nothing else but to elaborate on another prison break, he only trusts his best friend Hoppy (a stuffed animal he keeps with him all the time, and we can hear her speak as Z does).
All the different animals have suffered before getting there but now they are safe and are a big strange family. Then they learn the place has a lot of debt and that means they may not end up as a family at all. Z is selfish for a while until it's time to save instead of escape.
Ending the Sanctuary means no more watching musicals and classic movies, enjoying each other company, and helping each other. The animals even have a council and committee to solve issues. It's time for fun action and redemption. Accepting a new family and protecting them. Saying sorry is also a valuable skill.
Well written, perfect to read aloud and laugh with our critters. The dialogue is hilarious and has a great pacing and mood of a play.
Thank you so much Netgalley and publisher for this e-arc.
