So much fun! I'll definitely be recommending this to middle grade readers who are looking for something light and set in the real world. Noah is an immediately lovable character, and even now, I related to the FOMO she felt when her friends came back from the summer with crushes on boys. Also loved how deeply Canadian the book was.
I enjoyed Hazel Hill a lot, so when I saw Noah Frye on NetGalley, I snatched it up right away! While it did take me a little bit to get into the book (I honestly can't figure out why so I think it was a me problem--being a mood reader is rough), I really enjoyed the friendships and journeys all these characters went through. It was a very sweet story, and I hope to see more from Maggie Horne in the future!
LOVE, LOVE. LOVE this book! I will be purchasing and will include it in my library's reader advisory lists for queer middle grade reads!
This is a book that would have validated my feelings a questioning child, but still healed my heart at 30!
I related to Noah in pretending to have a crush on a boy in order to relate and not understanding why they became such a hot topic so quickly and seemingly out of nowhere! Looking forward to reading Maggie's upcoming YA novel!
Noah is back in her small Canadian town after a summer at camp. She's looking forward to 7th grade, hanging out with her best friends, and introducing them to her friend from camp who is new to town. When she realizes that her two best friends now have boyfriends, she decides she needs to find a boyfriend as well. This book has some great friendship moments, some funny mix-ups, and was a joy to read. Not everything rang true to me as an adult reader, but I think 5th and 6th graders who are navigating friendships and wondering what romantic feelings might be like should love this book.
This book was AMAZING. I really loved seeing the main character learn about and discover who she was! I thought I was a really funny story, and I loved the concept. I could not put this down! There was so much emotion! Overall, hilarious, fantastic book, and I would 100% recommend!
