The Camp Sylvania series continues with a second book that's jammed packed with thrills, laughs, pop culture references, and heartwarming moments. The gang is back, but this time, they're facing a new set of challenges under new camp management.

One of the standout features of this book is the introduction of a second point of view, Nora, in addition to a second author, Crystal Maldonado. This new perspective adds depth, as readers get to follow around the thoughts and actions of two campers!!

Beyond the spooktastic elements, this middle grade book is a coming-of-age story that explores themes of friendship, self-acceptance, and embracing all the things that make us unique.

Such an adorable book about friendship and camp. Besties attempt to navigate their friendship when new friends are made, crushes occur, and the camp is infested with werewolves. Once they figure out how to maintain their friendship they are then able to save camp and their fellow campers with the help of their new friends and one ghost camper.

I just knew that two of my fave authors were going to make this the best of the series so far. But, the first still holds that special place in my heart. I liked it yeah, but the spooky camp vibes and the little sprinkle of the paranormal creature vibes with the camp activities just weren’t the same as the last one.

This book was all about the new camp manager, Luna Lupowski. Her name is a little clue into who she is. But that was really all there was. I wish there had been something else to do with the werewolves besides the water. But unfortunately, I don’t think there’s enough lore for werewolves for a story like the last one. And I guess I can’t really fault Luna for being weird because she was basically just trying to “eat clean” and use only “clean products,” and that’s her prerogative. But everything else was crazy lol

I also missed the spooky in this one too. I think they talked to him using a radio like in Transformers and that was it. I think after the way the first one ended I was looking for more of the same from their ghost. I think there was a Ouja board, but they were poking fun about it. And I hated that she brought this paranormal activity deivce and she didn’t even use it. I thought it was like a waste of a mention. The only reason I didn’t gt mad at the lack of paranormal stuff was because we all knew that Nora either was scared of or just plain didn’t believe the paranormal aspects of the camp. And I can’t really fault her for that. There’s plenty of kids that don’t believe. And I loved that it gave both sides. (And yeah i know its fiction, but still lol)

The ending of this was what brought the whole book together tho. Once they found out where that one character was, that was all she wrote. Everyone started finding out everything and all the secrets started coming out. I do wish there was more than one person this happened to, but it was fine. Everyone was like half turned at that point so I thought it was ok. Again, I just don’t think there was enough lore surrounding werewolves, BUT I still think they used that lore in a super cool creative way.

The characters were ok. I wanted to smack Nina’s new friend lol I knew she was going to be a problem after how she treated Maggie. You can’t be doing my girl Maggs like that man. And maybe it’s my mom-ness. but girl bffr, if you knew your mom was doing this and you said nothing, you’re just as bad, (if not worse)as she is. They could have gotten hurt and it’s just not ok as a camp leader either.

Was this one my favorite of the series? No, that one still belongs to the first one. Do I hope there’s another one after this? Absolutely. Will I buy that one too? Absolutely lol This series is a fun one and I really love seeing recommending them to the tweens!

The second Camp Sylvania book finds Maggie back at Camp Sylvania, this time with best friend Nora in tow. They are looking forward to being at camp together, but find themselves fighting more. However, things get weird when they keep seeing a wolf around, and Maggie learns the moonwater has consequences to using it.

Although it was not as good as the first, I still liked this sequel! It definitely was a lot heavier on the tween changes and drama rather than the paranormal, which is one of the reasons I liked it less. I do think the authors did a good job covering these subjects. I also wish it had been more full on werewolves instead of people just turning into wolves (semipermanently) and not changing back. Despite this, I still think this is a fun series, and I would definitely read another!

I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Camp Sylvania so much when I read it last year and was so excited to see that there was a sequel to the summer of nightmares, that included a vampire takeover. Moon Madness was so much fun to read and such a great campy middle-grade novel.

Maggie, Logan and the rest of last year's Camp Sylvania crew are back at it again, spending their summer overcoming the challenges of being young teens and going through puberty, all while saving camp from the supernatural.

This year, Camp Sylvania has a new - non vampire - owner. Though the jet skis are yet again a no-go, the blob is out and though Luna (the new owner) seems a little odd. This summer is sure to be much better than last, especially because Maggie has her best friend, Nora, with her this year. But of course, things go a little differently than planned.

Nora is bunking with the owner's daughter, Luna. Maggie and Logan are set on finding evidence of the paranormal. The two best friends are being pulled in different directions all while weird things begins to happen at camp and wolf sightings begin to ramp up. Maggie and Nora are in for an interesting summer.
