This is a fun early chapter book about Felix, who buys a blanket at a thrift store. He takes the blanket home and finds that it has magical powers! The story telling is full of sensory details about dogs and has strong (and funny) opinions on the differences between cats and dogs. This will be a fun book for middle elementary students.

Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for this advanced ebook. what a great story that I can picture many of my k-3 teachers sharing with their students. Would make a great read aloud that not only captures the students attention with a the “what if” I turned into a dog story line, but also the animal facts, comic style elements, and connection to story writing that many teachers are probably saying to kids during writing workshop. This author had my heart with her middle geade novels, but these younger ones are wqually engaging me!!

Felix Powell is a young boy who finds the power of imagination and magic, courtesy of a blanket he purchases at a thrift store. After wrapping himself in the blanket, Felix finds himself turned into a dog. This leads him to a day of fun adventures with his own dog, Mary Puppins. While Felix enjoys experiencing life as a dog—the smells, the play, the interactions with Puppins—he wants to return to his boy form and to his beloved Nana. To find the trick to make this transformation possible, Felix will have to seek assistance from the neighborhood’s standoffish stray cat,

In this joyful celebration of imagination, Felix and Puppins are a fantastic duo! Their friendship shines through the pages of the book. With its fast pace, short chapters, and sweet illustrations, readers will stay hooked to the end to find out if Felix is successful in his quest to return to boy form. I know my elementary readers will love this one, especially the animal lovers and fans of the author’s Marisol Rainey series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sharing an eARC of the book with me.

Definitely adding this book to my classroom library!
My students will love this humorous story of Felix who becomes a boy-dog after buying a blanket at a thrift shop. Together with his dog, Mary Puppies, the two get into all sorts of adventures. While the short chapters and clever story will keep my students turning the page, this story also has heart as it explores themes of friendship and family.

Thank you Harper Collins and Netgalley.

Fans of Erin Entrada Kelly's Marisol Rainey series will love this new companion series about Felix Powell, a boy who turns into a dog with the magic of a thrift store blanket. Felix is empathetic, imaginative, fun-loving, and readers will love seeing the world through his eyes. Felix sees magic in an old, used blanket, true friendship in his dog, Mary Puppins, and a story in the antagonistic stray cat that comes to visit. I loved Felix's adventure in this first book of the series, and look forward to more of his story.

This was my first read of summer break and it was a perfect one to start with! Erin Entrada Kelly has such a way with words and knows how to make you fall for her characters right off the bat. Felix Powell (the human) charmed me from his visit to the store to spend his $5 in the very first chapter! He's just as unique and charming as Boy Dog! The book is funny, creative, and hard to put down! I'm thrilled to be able to add this to our library collection in the fall, to be able to book talk it to students, and to share it with classes and teachers as a potential read aloud. An extra great fit for 1st, 2nd, 3rd graders for sure, but will appeal to others as well.

A sweet and fun book for kids! This book will definitely be loved by children from preschool through fourth/fifth grade. A charming story of a young boy, Felix, who accidentally turns into a dog and gets to spend the day with his beloved pet dog Mary Puppins. He learns all about being a dog and how loved he is by Puppins. He also learns about how stubborn and difficult cats can be, when he asks for help from a neighborhood cat who is not interested in helping without a fair trade. This book is so much fun, the illustrations are adorable, and kids of all ages will absolutely adore it! Another winner by Erin Entrada Kelly!

Such a cute story! I really enjoyed it and look forward to sharing it with most of the 8-10yo boys who come into the store. I can't recommend it to all the boys due to butt-sniffing talk, which Amish moms wouldn't appreciate, but the boys will probably love. Except for that, the book is perfect.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Children’s Books for this DRC.
Felix Powell buys a magic blanket for one dollar at the thrift shop. But he doesn’t quite know what it does. While talking to his dog, Mary Puppins, they discover that he has turned into a dog boy! Puppins and Felix must work with Gumbo the Magnificent, a standoffish cat, in order to return him to boy form.
Felix and his wonderful imagination hold your attention on every page. Will he solve his dilemma or be stuck smelling butts forever. The great puppy pictures are an added bonus.
