Unfortunately, the plot of this one was a little too chaotic for me. There were murderers and drug traffickers and missing prostitutes and virtually no chemistry between the main characters. I didn’t feel anything between Yvgeny and Sam and even their first time together was a bit of a letdown.
I did not read the first book in this series but, having been introduced to Baz and Nika here, I don’t think I would be interested. I ended up skimming a lot of this.
I think there are people who will enjoy the fast-pace but this one wasn’t for me.
Normally I am not a fan of paranormal tropes, this one however I surprisingly enjoyed, I'm glad I gave it a chance.
I was pleasantly surprised by the humor and loved the mystery of it all.
I'm unsure if I will pick up another paranormal tropes anytime soon, but I'm so thankful I was able to give it a shot and I'm so glad this Was the book to do it.
Would recommend!
I could not put this book down. Stayed up alright to finish this story. You really brought the characters to live I felt lime I wad. a part of the story. Love it
Before requesting this title I did a bit of research as it was the 2nd book in a series. I got the impression it could be read as a stand alone so went ahead and requested it. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the first book.
Yevgeny is kind of a Russian Mob Vampire. Samantha is a no nonsense paramedic who has an altruistic streak a mile wide. I liked her. There wasn't the usual insta-love, but I thought their romance would have more focus than it did.
Overall it was a pretty good mix of romance, bad guys, good guys, shoot-em ups with some supernatural thrown in.
This was a fantastic read. I really enjoyed the banter between the characters. I flow of the book was good as well.
I was immediately drawn in by the book description. I seldom encounter books about 800-year-old vampire CEOs, and several reviews mentioned the great dialogues—especially between Samantha and Yvgeny—which was just further incentive for me to pick this up. I went into this knowing that this was the second book in a series, but I figured I'd be able to follow along without any prior background information. The author did a good job of spreading out events from the first book in this one that made it easy to follow without feeling utterly lost or confused. Now that I've finished it, I can say that I REALLY liked this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the world Julie Rowe has built here, and the characters in it. Yvgeny delivered some of the best dialogues I've read in a while. I couldn't help smiling, giggling or laughing my way through this. It was like watching one's favorite TV show, that's how effortless this felt.
This book had a little bit of everything in it: suspense, a little romance, and humor. I loved Sam and Yvgeny as a couple but also as individuals. Sam's history and current vocation—to establish why she does what she does—was believable and quite well established in a quick and concise way—if you start the series with book two first. Yvgeny was also written in a well-rounded way, that made me understand what Sam perceived of him versus what a reader was privy to.
Lately, I've found myself skipping graphic sex scenes in books because they're often underwhelming or too frequent despite a good story. Here, however, I almost wish there had been more heat. There is so much sexiness that could have been explored with the fangs and the possessiveness and all that chemistry. But, in the end, I'm not disappointed one bit because the story held up nicely without superfluous sex. I kept turning the pages for all the witty dialogues.
A minor complaint I have—and this is just a personal preference/opinion—is how many times Sam's life was in danger using the same ploy each time, and they didn't seem to learn from it. The whole book revolves around the bad guys trying to nab Sam. Of course, she's heavily protected at all times, and yet each and every time, the person guarding her managed to get called away or distracted for a few minutes, long enough to endanger Sam. That made no sense for them to keep falling for those tricks. And second, I wonder if subsequent books will touch upon Sam possibly wanting to be turned so she can be with Yvgeny forever. It didn't seem like Baz and Nika (the couple from the first book) had a talk about that either, since no one addressed it in this book. Just a thought.
This book is definitely one I'd pick up again and again to read just for the serotonin boost.
This book was absolutely mind blowing!! The world building in this was incredible. There were so many small details that played a part in the plot and world building!! But also, there were a few details that left me confused because they weren’t elaborated on. That was the only problem I had with the book but I’m still giving it a 5 stars because of how good it was.
I absolutely loved this book. About 20% in, I realized it was part 2 of a series. However, I didn't feel the need to stop and read the 1st book. I loved the relationship between Sam and Yvgeny. Funny and cute, looking forward to the next book. I love these vampires. Also, really hope the twins get a book of their own.
I really liked this book. Plucky paramedic works for billionaire vampire. It’s part thriller, part romance, and has some really funny moments.
I got to read a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
This was a pretty good book. The banter was amazing and I loved the romance so much! I would highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a good romance
I have to confess, when I requested an ARC of Sinner's Sacrifice, I didn't realise it was book 2 in a series until about a couple of chapters in when there was mention of things that had already happened... Oops...
Regardless, I really enjoyed this book! The characters' sense of humour, especially Yvgeny & Sam, was fab & gave me a few chuckles. There was plenty of action to keep me hooked and I didn't want to put it down.
I'll have to go back and read Volume 1 now, haha!
Thank you to Netgalley & Julie Rowe for the opportunity to read this ARC!
First of all, Samantha is amazing. I loved her banter with Yvgeny. I wish their history and condition was fleshed out more earlier in the book. Second, I genuinely felt the connection between them which is rare.
Sam is a paramedic working to help the street people of NYC. Yvengy is the rich and dangerous Russian businessman with ties to all sorts of crime...or so everyone thinks. Little do they know he and his family have a much bigger secret to keep hidden. Can Sam bring herself to trust Yvengy? Can Yvengy finally admit to himself that he wants more than to take care of the messes his family makes?
This book was a great quick read and kept me entertained the whole time!
Yvgeny is an 800 year old vampire - one of the few remaining of a dwindling population. Samantha is a medic with a passion for protecting and helping women who fell victim to New York City’s streets. And when Sam and Yvgeny meet, Sam can tell that there’s something Yvgeny isn’t telling her about who she truly is.
While I liked this story, I didn’t absolutely love it. It was a short story and I think that was reflected in the reading experience. There were some plot lines that I thought were interesting and kept me reading but I would’ve been much more into those plot lines, and the story as a whole, if it hadn’t felt so rushed.
Additionally, I felt that the rushed nature of the book made the romance aspect fall a bit flat. I was interested in continuing to read about the romantic relationship but I didn’t feel invested in it.
I did love the characters individually - the protective, possessive CEO and the fierce, passionate medic - and how the relationship between them had the woman being portrayed as a bit more of the dominant one (outside of the bedroom, at least!), I just feel that they, and their relationship, could have been so much more if they had been given a bit more time.
Lastly, while the world of vampire politics intrigued me, as that’s always an interesting aspect to paranormal type books, I feel like I didn’t get a great sense of the vampire world outside of Yvgeny (However, I believe this is the second book in a series though, so there may be more context in the first)
Easy to love characters, exciting lust filled action and dangerous lifestyle with complications but splashed with family drama this book is predictable yet you find yourself becoming attached to the characters. Hard headed leading lady busting the balls of her counter part, you will find yourself rooting for them until the end.
3.5 stars!!
Sinner’s Sacrifice is a fast-paced vampire (but don’t call them vampire) romance following business mogul Yvgeny and his onsite paramedic Sam. This book was action-packed, full of betrayals, secrets, kidnappings, and somehow lots of love and care for fellow humans!
I loved how the story didn’t relent in letting the characters or the readers settle in by keeping the action flowing and leaving us curious throughout!! I also love stories that follow people with a bad reputation doing good for people around them, so this was great!
Thank you to Julie Rowe and NetGalley for a chance to review this book in exchange for an honest review!
This was a very interesting storyline. I loved the strong female characters and how they are determined to do what they want. The male characters are all about protecting those they care about no matter the cost. This was the perfect book to read on a stormy day! I really want to read the first book about the cousin.
Not a fan of Vampire books. I thought I'd give it another try with, Sinner's Sacrifice. I like all the other things that Julie Rowe writes. Still not a fan but I finished the book.
