One of my favorite sapphic authors so I jumped at the chance to read this one. Making me enjoy the miscommunication trope is something this book does well.
Wonderful addition to F/F romances and with characters not frequently seen in those that have been published.
The shift from friends to lover to being in a relationship was well developed and I appreciated the found family element and how both were folded into that family.
I was excited to read “A Little Kissing Between Friends” after reading Chencia’s book “D’vaughn and Kris Plan A Wedding.” Chencia is really repping for the queer community and it was great to see a dom on the page. These narratives and representations of Black queer life are missing from the book space.
However, the storyline just lacked substance. There wasn’t a lot of plot there. It’s definitely more of a character driven story. I would skip this one.
Chencia C. Higgins does it again in A Little Kissing Between Friends. The genre is better for her storytelling and steamy Black Sapphic contemporary romances. I love Cyn and that Juleesa’s friendship and journey to love. May we all be someone’s muse the way Jucee is Cyn’s.
I love Chencia C. Higgins as an author, and I truly enjoyed this book. The characters are loveable, and it is fiercely Black with a variety of important representation. The one thing that I didn't love was how much the plot seemed to meander without much structure. I was often confused about where the characters were at with each other (I get that they were confused and that was the plot, but I as the reader didn't want to be confused).
I would still recommend this book to others and look forward to the author's future works.
Fat on Fat Black sapphic romance with mostly really lovable characters! Not much plot but lots of really good scenes. More sex scenes than you would expect in case that matters to you in either direction!
This was my introduction to Chencia Higgins and I was wowed by her story telling and colorful characters! I was really rooting for Papa and Jucee! The story was believable and fun to read, I will be telling my audience and friends about this book!
This book was such a fun read. This friends to lovers romance is so fun and sexy. It is one of the most sex positive romances I've read which is interesting when you think about it, shouldn't all romances be sex positive? Higgins writes her characters with so much love and respect. Sex workers, fat women, various queer identities are all written in a way that tells me these are people the author truly loves. The pacing of the plot was quick and hot, the overall spice in this book was top notch. Would highly recommend.
At first I thought I was going to enjoy this a lot. But then there was miscommunication on top of miscommunication, which just would not end, and I started begging these people to just talk to each other. I also really disliked the way Cyn treated Jucee, which was very disrespectful, especially considering they were already best friends before they started sleeping together. All in all this did not end up working for me.
This is a sweet, fun romance. The writing doesn't take itself too seriously, including during the sex scenes which manage to be both hot and funny. The levity makes this a great pick for a casual read- I read most of it between an oil change and a flight. Between this book and D'Vaughn and Kris plan a wedding, Chencia Higgins is clearly passionate about queer, Black, Texans getting authentic representation. The characters feel real, although the situations they are in don't always.
Read if you like: stud/femme relationships, big bodies being celebrated, found family and biological families, books that will make you hungry, sex scenes that are a little bit goofy but mostly sexy, Black southern rep.
Very grateful to NetGalley and Carina Adores for arc access (and very embarrassed it took me this long to finish).
CAWPILE 10s across the board
"A Little Kissing Between Friends" follows Cyn and Juleesa, best friends who are destined to be more. Everyone seems to know it but them. When one night they cross the line, things get complicated. Do they choose to stay friends or try for more?
This is very easily my favorite wlw romance I've ever read. The characters are lovable, each adding a little something special to the story. The read was immersive, and the energy was palpable. The pacing felt just right, with nothing out of place. I found myself wishing I was reading this book while at work and rushed home to get back to my Kindle. One of my favorite reads this year by far.
Special thanks to the author & @harlequinbooks #CarinaAdores for my gifted copy!!!
I went into this one completely blind it got a little raunchy but I ended up enjoying it. A Little Kissing Between Friends is a sapphic friends-to-lovers romance between two bestfriends who decide they’re ready to take their friendship to the next level.
Cyn Tha Starr aka Poppa a rapper/music producer on the rise and Juleesa Jones aka Jucee a stripper at Club Sanity by day and a single mom by night have been friends for years. One night things get heated and the two mess around causing feelings and emotions that have long been ignored to erupt. But after being friends for so long the two are afraid getting into something more serious might ruin their friendship.
This book was so funny to me I still can’t get over Poppa having the six inch strap-on hidden in a secret pocket. Like that was wild asf cause girl what lmao she was completely out of line for that. But I loved the connection and chemistry between Cyn and Jucee I felt they were well-suited together. Although Poppa was a playa with plenty of women to choose from it was Jucee she couldn’t stop thinking about. Even though Jucee wasn’t really into the whole relationship thing she was willing and ready to risk it all for Cyn. All I could think when reading this was sex is such a powerful thing.
Overall, I liked the book. Again it was hilarious, all of the characters were loveable, we get some messy groupie drama, a little miscommunication, and family/friend dynamics. If you’re looking for a quick laugh, some spice, or a sapphic romance you found it!!!

With its engaging narrative, relatable characters, and perfect blend of humor and emotion, it’s a book that celebrates the beauty of love and friendship. This novel is a must-read for anyone looking for a feel-good romance with a lot of heart.
i have to say i was a bit disappointed with this book after having read dvaughn and kris. it kind of had to do with the couple because honestly i didn’t really ship them
Earlier this year, I read D'vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding and loved it. I was excited to see the author had another book coming out but with a different couple dynamic. Everything about the synopsis indicates friends to lovers with spice. I am sad to say that this was disappointing. I found the two leads friendship to be lacking and when they started getting together I can see why it wasn't working. Both struggled to communicate the whole book and would hurt each other in the process. I liked Jucee for the most part but I felt Cyn was toxic for her. I wanted them to change by the end and It felt like they did but not enough to convince me of their romance. I would read more from this author but I definitely felt this was a skip.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for this e-book copy!
I absolutely LOVED this one! Juicy and Cyn’s evolution from friends to lovers was so fun and realistic. I had such a great time seeing them figure out how to be something more. Also sooooo steamy! Had me sweating lol
- There is so much to love in A LITTLE KISSING BETWEEN FRIENDS. Friends to lovers! Great banter! Black love! Stud representation! Super spicy scenes! S3x work treated as real work!
- I loved both Cyn and Jucee. Higgins is so good at characterization: both women and their friends and family felt like people you could know in real life.
- I unfortunately had real trouble with the third act breakup, though. !SPOILERS! It comes about because of a biphobic statement that seems to come out of nowhere and not fit with the world of the book. Then the characters discuss it to death with their circles, but when they finally talk to each other it’s quite nearly just glossed over for love.
This book started out great but got slow around the middle and dragged. It took me a few weeks to get through. It wasn't for me.
A Little Kissing Between Friends is a cute and spicy quick read. I loved the queer black representation and the supportive community that was depicted in this book. Cyn and Jucee, our FMCs, have a friends-to-lovers relationship that, for the most part, was interesting to read. I did feel like the love interest was a bit too swift and underdeveloped. I would have enjoyed it more if there was a romantic build-up. Although the romance felt lacking, the sexual connection was definitely there! It's a fun read overall, and I enjoyed Cyn and Jucee together as both friends and lovers.
Thank you NetGalley, Harlequin-Romance, and Chencia C. Higgins for this read!
