I loved Serena and Henry's story. The bar in Geneva was very atmospheric and in fact the entire book was very visual. Switched is one of the best audiobooks of my year. The story and characters are quirky and Sarah Ready always has me hooked with her books. Switched was truly original. I love Star Trek and it was great that it was part of the plot. I think Serena's cat, Captain Purrk, had an original name (a play on words and an homage to Star Trek).

The narrator was brilliant and pulled me further into an already immersive story. T

The audiobook is so fun.

Thanks to Sarah Ready and publisher for my eARC in exchange for my honest abd voluntary review.

“Switched” by Sarah Ready is a “freaky Friday Vibes” body switching romance that surprised me and kept my attention the entire time I listened.

Serena and Henry are both interesting characters and while I did not immediately connect with them by the end of the book I really enjoyed them and started to understand their ways, much like Serena and Henry!

Im not a huge fan of insta-love so the beginning of the book was jarring, but once it went on and I realized it isn’t completely instant and more one sided I started to really enjoy it more!

The science references were fun and as someone who is not very academic I didn’t find them overwhelming.

Overall this book was a fun read and if you’re interested in plot with extremely mild spice this is a great book!

Switched is like freaky Friday but the two that swapped bodies are two coworkers that kissed a year ago and haven’t talked about it since. This was a very funny romcom between two physicists that have polar opposite mannerisms and what a good time it was.

The writing was snarky and funny. Jokes made at the beginning came full circle at the end. I can’t complain.

There were definitely some odd choices but I felt like that was part of the charm. For example, the two characters were attracted to the other while they were still in their swapped bodies. Kinda weird, but they made it a point to say they were more attracted to the person and not the body they’re in… still kinda weird.

This is definitely a love at first sight story so if that’s not for you - this is not for you!

I think this is a fun story that definitely is not for everyone, but the people it’s for will really enjoy it.

Thank you Netgalley and W.W. Crown and Imprint of Swift and Lewis Publishing for a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

3.5. Switched was so funny and surprisingly deep. It starts off super cheesy and pretty typical for a rom-com. However, once we get to the middle and find out why Serena avoids relationships, you understand her more. I thought it was going to be your basic 'I'm afraid of love' shpels we usually get but it was so much more. I am a sucker for female friendships so I really appreciated reading Serena's friendship with Jillian. Those two had me cackling.

I am rating this under 4 because, while hilarious and at times thoughtful, it felt a good 10 chapters too long. Some unnecessary details really didn't go with the story. They felt like filler chapters.

Ultimately, this is a great read if you want something cute and funny. I didn't even realize this was book 2 so now I will definitely be going back to reading book 1 of this series.

This was a DNF for me. I just didn’t jive with the storyline 30% in. I apologize and won’t be reviewing on any platforms, as I do t feel it would be fair to the author if I did so.

This was a DNF for me simply because the author's writing does not work for me - it's overly detailed for what seems to be no other reason than lengthening out the story. In this book, the FMC was speaking directly to the reader with footnotes and graphs - not my cup of tea. I do appreciate that Ready's stories are unique, but I think her writing style makes it hard for more to appreciate them.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing the audio0-arc!

Pros:
-the concept
-it's enjoyable
-the narrator did such a great job
Cons:
-the way things wrapped up
-the change in narrators for one chapter

super super cheesy. the weird fourth wall breaks and the redundancy of the writing like “you might not think blah blah blah but it is. oh. it is.” turned it into a cringe read real fast. the book description made it sound a lot different in my opinion so it wasn’t quite what i was expecting.
the characters were unbelievably basic. nothing really new done with the concept. just meh.
and low key some of the descriptions of things just made me uncomfortable.

5 stars – A funny, cute and ultimately uplifting romantic comedy Switched is a great audiobook that I thoroughly enjoyed. Following our main characters Ducky and Henry as they try and resolve getting their own bodies back after they have swapped bodies. The lovers to enemies back to lovers trope is well thought out and flows well. It was great to see from Ducky’s perspective throughout, and there were some really funny bits that had me grinning throughout. I loved it, and will be reading the rest of the series. Don’t overthink this book, just sit back and enjoy the ride!

This was such a cute read! Serena and Henry have an adorable meet-cute, fall into bed together and he tells her he may already be in love with her… the only problem is, he’s her new boss. Once she finds this out instead of being honest she tells him what they had was just a night of fun and didn’t mean anything (despite her heart telling her otherwise). Flashforward two years of working together and the two have an insane experience- there is a storm and suddenly they wake up in each others bodies. They must work together to find out how to switch back before it’s too late. There was really cute banter, character development and overall exploration of what it means to be in a relationship.

Thank you NetGalley and Swift & Lewis Publishing LLC for the ARC of this audiobook!

After a fated and incredible one night together, Serena Otaki is convinced that she shouldn't be with Henry Joules. She's a sloppy free spirit, a Californian, and is not willing to sacrifice her career for anything and Henry is, well Henry, an uptight, neat-freak from England who almost has literal hearts in his eyes when he looks at her. And that just isn't going to work. Forget that it felt like love. Forget that he somehow smelled of starlight. And forget that he is now her boss?

After over a year of working together but avoiding each other at the same time, an electric storm causes an unexpected event at the particle collider they both work on: they switch bodies. As impossible as it seems, it did happen. Now Serena as Henry and Henry as Serena must navigate simple bodily differences, everyday life, and both joyous and tense family events.

While a little more nuance and exploration of gender during this body switch would've been welcome, Switched is an interesting romantic romp with some genre atypical notes.

I snagged this Audiobook as an available now option on Netgalley, and it is SUPER cute and in-the-feels. I loved that the time in which this story takes place is over the course of a couple of years. There's something to be said for seeing the characters' initial meeting and then how their dynamic ebbs and flows over a longer time period.

The main narrator, Kelsey Navarro Foster, did an AMAZING job. She made it easy to follow while the characters were in switched bodies by using different intonations and accents to match the correct "soul" character with the correct dialogue/inner thoughts at that time.

This is a lovey dovey, minimal spice read that had me laughing out loud and smiling while I listened. Lots of character development throughout. Switched is OUT NOW!

I really liked French Holiday by this author so I thought I’d give Switched a go. I purposefully didn’t read/listen to Ghosted because I’m not into paranormal. I thought Switched would be okay since it seemed more science-y and body swap sounded like it had potential. Unfortunately Switched missed the mark for me. The concept was cool, but I didn’t really like the characters. Serena was insufferable and I nearly DNF’d multiple times because of her character. If it wasn’t an ALC, I probably would have. This book was not for me.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

This was a cute read! I enjoyed the personalities of the main characters and it was overall well written. The narrators did a good job as well.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my review copy!

This is a fairly spicy read from a new-to-me author. I enjoyed Sarah Ready's writing style, and I found myself laughing out loud on several parts of the book. The quick wit, nerdily brilliant characters and story line kept me from putting this down! I recommend if you're looking for a little light-hearted spice!

Thank you so much to @netgalley for an audio ARC of Switched by Sarah Ready
.
It is a STEM-focused book about Serena ‘Ducky’ and Henry with a freaky Friday twist.
.
I enjoyed this one a lot!
The writing is fantastic, the characters are well-developed, the premise is unlike any I’ve read, and the ending makes me happy.
.
I did listen to it via my hearing aids and thought the narrators did a great job. With the voice changes it was easy to keep up with a premise that could be confusing.
.
My favorite part was how they reacted to being in the wrong bodies and became more compassionate toward their partner.
.
Out now - read if you enjoy:
Smart women in science
Women who want a career
Open-door romance (not a lot)
Forced proximity
Instalove but try to deny
A touch of cosmic intervention
.
Scroll to see how stunning the cover is.

Thank you to NetGalley and W.W. Crown (Swift & Lewis Publishing, LLC) for my audio ARC, all thoughts are my own!

Switched is another cute romance from Sarah Ready with a fun little plot twist! As always with Sarah Ready's books, I enjoyed the light tone combined with both banter and depth, and the spark of the connection - quite literally in this one! Parts of this story had me laughing out loud, especially as Henry and Serena were figuring each other out (😉), and other parts were more emotional. I appreciated the pace of the romance in this - Sarah really took the time to develop each character's individual story while also slowly bringing them together. It made their romance and connection all the more believable and had me rooting for them until the very end.

I actually prefer Sarah Ready's books on audio, and this one was no different. The narrator did such a good job of switching back and forth between the voices/perspectives so it was easy to follow and had flare that kept me engaged!

Overall a super cute story and I look forward to reading what Sarah has for us next!

Sarah Ready does it AGAIN 🤭

plot line:
For Serena Otaki, free-spirited Californian, life is simple. She loves smashing atoms at The Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland. She loves Star Trek, spicy tofu, and her cat, Captain Purrk. She loves her messy (slob-fest) apartment, her chaotic brand of organizing, and staying permanently, happily unattached.

Life is perfect. She has one true love—physics.

Loving a man isn’t in her future.

For Henry Joules, uptight Brit, life is simple. He loves making analog black holes, drinking piping hot tea, and organizing his pencil tray. He loves his family, red meat, and obsessively cleaning his spotless apartment.

Life is perfect. He has many loves—physics, family, friends. He can’t wait to find the woman of his dreams.

Love and marriage are in his future.

One perfect night Serena and Henry meet. Sparks fly, particles collide, the universe comes to a halt, and…

It was a mistake.
They’re too different.
It won’t work.
Love isn’t in their future.

Until an electric storm causes an unexpected event at the particle collider and suddenly—they’ve switched.

Serena is in Henry’s body.
Henry is in Serena’s body.

And both life and love are suddenly very, very complicated.

my thoughts:
wow , just wow!

my first 5 star read of 2024.
I think this is the fastest I’ve ever read a book - not that time matters , but I don’t usually tend to finish a book within 24 hours since starting it 🙃

after being skeptical and wondering “how well can someone write a story about two character switching bodies , make the plot make sense and overall enjoyable for the reader” but I’m glad Sarah put my worries to rest and showed me how it’s done.

not only did this book have so much description - that many other books tend to leave out , it also included multiple tropes , footnotes , diagrams and illustrations!
(which I’ve never seen in a book before).

Serena and Henry’s love story (in my opinion) is a masterpiece - with the twist and turns that happen in this book as a reader you feel emotionally and physically connected to these characters.

also can we talk about Henry? UGH MY HEART 💔 he is quite literally the epitome of “book husband” and will added to my never ending list of “fictional men that I love”.

i highly recommend this book for anyone who needs something comforting to read or perhaps needs a new perspective on love.

thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review ☺️

With so many good books to read in this world, this one was a DNF.

What didn’t work for me was a combination of the narration and plot. The narrator’s tone evoked a snide teenager more than an accomplished physicist. And the premise that the main character has such black and white ideas about relationships (like that all couples become enmeshed, make join names and wear matching outfits) is a trope that didn’t land for me in this instance.

I can see others liking this book, it has all the right ingredients for a romcom novel, And it was refreshing to have a steamy encounter early in the plot, not dragging sexual tension through the entire storyline as some books do!

This was a good story with a great narration. However I just could not get into it. I am not one who enjoys when the main character talk directly to me. Breaking that fourth wall. If that is something you enjoy then this is for you! I did really enjoy just how dedicated to her career the main character is. Some people just know exactly what they want and they go after it! I loved that this was celebrated in this book. The Narrator was spot on for this character I absolutely loved how she totally nailed her personality and the attitude.
