"Switched," the second instalment in Sarah Ready's Ghosted Series, delivers a delightful blend of sci-fi, romance, and comedy that had me hooked from the start. The story revolves around two polar opposite characters, Serina and Henry, whose lives unexpectedly turn after a one-night stand leads to body-switching chaos.
Serina is a free-spirited, fun-loving girl from California. She is a physics enthusiast who loves Star Trek, messy organization, spicy tofu, and, most of all, being unattached. She finds herself entangled with Henry, her opposite in every way. Henry, an organized Britt looking for love, becomes Serina's boss, leading to an intriguing dynamic. The real adventure begins when a storm and an electrical issue result in them waking up in each other's bodies.
I adored " Switched " 's seamless blend of humour and romance, notably the sci-fi rom-com elements that had me laughing out loud throughout the story. Sarah Ready's writing brings the characters to life with banter, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the narrative.
Serina and Henry's journey, from their quirky meeting to the chaos of switching bodies, is a rollercoaster of fun.
The author's ability to create engaging characters and dynamic interactions solidifies her as one of my favourite authors. The banter between the characters is witty and relatable, making it a joy to follow their escapades.
The audiobook narration by Kelsey Navarro Foster and James Anderson Foster enhances the overall experience. While Kelsey predominantly carries the narrative due to the story's focus on Serina's perspective, both narrators bring their A-game to the production. However, I found it peculiar that the male narrator had a limited role in the narration, as having both narrators could have added an extra layer to the storytelling.
This sci-fi rom-com is a must-read (or listen) for those seeking a perfect blend of humour, romance, and unexpected twists. 🌌💕
Thank you to NetGalley, W. W. Crown (an imprint of Swift & Lewis Publishing, LLC), and Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Audiobooks for generously providing me with an audiobook version of "Switched" by Sarah Ready in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this audiobook and the narrators Kelsey Navarro Foster and James Anderson Foster. They kept a good pace, had an enjoyable tone and were easy to listen to.So why not a 5 star you ask? The very core of the book was based on the premise of love at first sight. When I hear I love you the day I meet someone (aka immediately after sex) my eye rolls begin and you lose me. However, I persevered and found it to be quite an enjoyable experience.
I really liked the story line and the switching of bodies was different from any I had read before. Having a chance to experience life in another’s body with their cravings is quite unique and gives a different perspective to both the character and the reader. Throw in some family drama and I found myself laughing along with the characters.
Serena is a very career focused scientist who wants to stay single and focus on her first love - physics. Henry, on the other hand, wants to find his one true love! The fire ignites when they meet, but soon Henry’s declaration has Serena running for her life. The love / hate relationship that follows is full of hilarious innuendos and a provides a great platform to reflect from.
I would like to thank NetGalley and W.W. Crown and Imprint of Swift & Lewis Publishing for granting me access to this book for my honest opinion.
This wasn’t my favorite - I love the idea of a body swap with nerdy scientists, but it got weird and I just had a bad vibe almost the whole time. It is a bummer tho because I really like her writing.
I love this series! It does a perfect job portraying the complexity that is love, but in the funniest, most magical way. I love the characters and their development in this one. I would recommend this to any and everyone.
i really like the narrators as well, especially the female narrator really has a nice and soothing voice. they also really convey the humor of the book
Thank you to netgalley and the author for sending me the book in exchange for an honest review
2.5 rating
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.
The story is interesting and could be enjoyable on its own. My problem was that there was too much other fluff and terms in there to be able separate the story from the “concepts and science”.
I wish the characters were more enjoyable, specially the female character.
It gives Freaky Friday, with some romance and geeky spin to it. It could be really fun if you can look past the fluff.
This book was your classic love story - but with a twist! A young independent woman finds herself in a sticky situation - pun intended - and winds up turning to a handsome stranger for help. Little did she know their lives would intertwine, but would it be forever?
Serena and Henry are complete opposites in just about every way. But, when they find themselves switched they need to work together to figure out how to reverse the effects, or at least stick together and learn how to be the other.
This book gave me all the small town live story vibes I needed with a few plot twists sprinkled in! Don’t forget the drama at every turn, you’re in for a wild romantic ride!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to listen to Switched by Sarah Ready. I was excited to read it as I always enjoy her stories, but his one was a flop for me. I did not enjoy it. I know it is kind of a remake of Freaky Friday with a love story instead of mother-daughter, but everything was weird, didn't make sense at all. The narrators were amazing and did a wonderful job. I loved their voice.
It was so cute! The ending was perfectly done I was shocked at how well this was done. The female main character is the lead in the narration as well I did an ALC of this book and she was great! The tiny bit we got of the male narrator was great as well. I wish we had more from him! The plot was freaky Friday meets science/magic it was funny, and sad and made me tear up which I wasn’t expecting. Reverse grumpy/ sunshine, British and American, MMC falls first, STEM Romance and such a powerful message. I highly recommend it does have a bit of spice at the very end.
Serena is a physicist who works and lives in Geneva, Switzerland. One night, she meets a British man named Henry at the pub she frequents. They hit it off and end up having a one night stand; however, when morning arrives and Serena realizes not only does Henry have deeper feelings than she would like, he happens to also be her new boss. Once it’s discovered by both that they don’t have the same intentions for each other, they end up not getting along. Two years go by disliking one another, when one night while working on a project during a lightning storm, the two end up switching bodies.
I listened to Switched on audio, and it was a very entertaining rom-com. The plotline was unique to me, as I’ve never read a book before where the woman and the man switch places. That element brings humor, and allows the two main characters to be more empathetic for one another which draws them closer together. It’s also interesting that while they cohabit the body of the other, they seem to be capable of knowing memories and feelings of that person. For example, Serena can have flashes of Henry in his childhood home and the way he felt in that memory.
The narrator of the audiobook did well in voicing both main characters. She was great too at maintaining them even when they were switched. It helped me to visualize Serena being in Henry’s body and the other way around.
There are a couple of things I did not like about the book. These are more personal preference when it comes to romance novels. Switched is very much an insta-love story. Doesn’t matter if the 1st time they meet and the time they switch places is 2 years, because at the end of the day they did have one romantic night and then manage to mostly avoid one another for 2 years before having to spend time together due to the switch. And this switch only lasts for a couple of weeks.
The other thing that bothered me–and honestly, this is truly a me problem–is when a person’s scent is described as being something intangible. In this case, Serena keeps mentioning Henry smells like starlight.
Switched is an overall likable romance book. It kept me invested in it the whole time I listened, and I say give it a try especially if you like fluffy love stories. I would recommend this book also to those who like Ali Hazelwood books.
“Switched” by Sarah Ready is a delightful listen that delivers exactly what you would expect for a romance novel. The story follows two physicists who meet in a not so believable scene and have a not so believable insta-love connection. While the plot may not be par to scientific believably, the storytelling keeps you engaged throughout the book.
The story does have a “Freaky Friday” vibe that I enjoyed and the narration by the FMC did make me want to continue with the book. I finished the audiobook in less than 24 hrs and was a perfect choice for a cozy evening or relaxing commute.
Overall, the story was heartwarming and a great listen if you want a sweet love story with 1/5 spice. Thank you NetGalley, W.W. Crown, and Imprint of Swift & Lewis Publishing for providing a copy of the audiobook for me to review!
Switched was a fun read but I'm not a fan of insta love which is what their relationship was based on at first.
Despite that, the overdone plot, and the miscommunication trope, I enjoyed the way it was written.
Just wish it was more unique. And there was no spice until right at the end and weirdly the beginning.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was super enjoyable to listen to. I loved the laugh out loud moments and the overall heartwarming story. I’m a huge fan of the wit, humor, & different concepts of Sarah Ready’s books (nerdy AF)! I’m also a fan of her characters & settings! This is the 2nd book in the Ghosted series, but you can definitely read it as a standalone.
In the last year I have read 4 of Sarah Ready’s books & all of them have been 4+⭐️’s.
Here is my list:
1.The Space Between (one of my favorite reads of 2023)
2.French Holiday
3.Ghosted
4.Switched
At this point I will recommend any of Sarah Ready’s books! I will say I have audiobooked all of her books and really enjoyed all of the narrators! Just go ahead and pick up one of her books. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this audio arc of Switched.
Sarah Ready never fails to have the wildest ideas and make a wonderful, smart, insightful and sweet story out of it.
When two scientists go on the best date, break up so as not to have a work life conflict, then, during a freak storm while in the hydron collider room at CERN, end up body swapped, hilarity ensues as these brilliant people have to navigate being each other while empathizing as themselves -- and figuring out how to switch back!

Trigger Warning: Parental health crisis
Bonus: Freaky-Friday inspired romcom, Asian representation, women in STEM, enemies to lovers, he falls first.
One minute you're minding your own business, the next you've switched bodies with your boss who you slept with before realizing he was your boss.
This story about Serena and Henry was laugh out loud funny. Anytime an audiobook has me guffawing, I know it's good. I loved the funny banter, a happily ever after, and the body swap twist.
The only thing I would say was that it was at times easy to forget they body swapped during the book, but that didn't affect the story.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Switched is a lovely idea. Freaky Friday but make it a couple who needs a second chance. Add a very driven stem focussed female male character who sees relationships as a way to lose her identity as the main point of view and you have the basic plot.
I was sad I didn’t enjoy this as much as I thought I would. The main character was just too self centered for my tastes. The narrator of the audio enhanced this feeling of also taking herself too seriously. Having to deal with family issues in someone else’s body and being a being a bystander was an interesting twist.
I liked how they both grew to understand each other but the main character circled around the same issues over and over again. The sciencey speak felt like we were going for an Ali Hazelwood vibe but without any of the humor or style that makes her books so great.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC and ALC of Switched.
Having read the first book in the Ghosted series, I was excited to read Switched. This works as a standalone but characters from the first book are side characters in this one. The premise intrigued me because I have never read a Freaky Friday-esque novel, especially a romance. Honestly, it didn't really work for me. I cannot picture falling in love with someone in my body while in their body so it was very challenging for me to enjoy the story. The main character would also break the 4th wall and I personally was not a fan of that either. I enjoyed the audiobook and the narrator did a wonderful job. Overall, the story was a quick, cute, insta-love but the body swap was not my favorite.
I needed a few chapters to fully get into the story. I read and listen a lot to Englisch books/ Audiobooks, but I dint know why I had issues with this one. Even if I am not a native speaker, I never had issues in the past... (GER Review below)
Don’t be put off by the rating I genuinely did enjoy it. It was a fun, light read. But something was missing to have this considered as a highlight for me.
I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for this arc
To sum up, this book was kinda like a mix of freaky friday and the big bang theory (basically nerds that swap bodies). so if you like either of those you’d probably enjoy this.
After I was fully in. I laughed out loud a few times and had a huge grin on my face.
The idea is not new but for love interests it was even more fun then other "switched" stories.
I liked the characters and how the both changed and grown through out the book.
Serena needed a bit more "growing" and we get to know bit by bit why.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me access to Switched. This was my first book by Sarah Ready and I do plan on reading more! Although some of the nerdy content wasn't loved by me, I did find humor in many sections of the plot and found myself chuckling! The concept of "body switching" especially with a heterosexual couple interesting.. but definitely enjoyed the characters and this storyline for a light-hearted read to break up my typically tense/thrilling type genres!
I listened to the audiobook version, provided by NetGalley.
The narrators of the audiobook gave good performances, bringing the characters' attitudes and personalities to life. I don't think I was a huge fan of the narration though in terms of the writing, a few too many side-notes or detractions, sometimes my mind drifted off for a few seconds before jumping back and being a little lost. Despite this, by the end of the first chapter I was all buckled in for some brain candy. I was ready to be delighted by a silly story.
The good: As a female science nerd, I appreciate a contemporary romance in a STEM setting. It was lighthearted, no air of seriousness
The meh: the body switch trope felt a lil weird. Like uncomfortable at times. I occasion forgot the characters swapped bodies in the audiobook style. My brain struggled to connect Serena with the female voice to visualizations of a male Henry body. Maybe written would have worked better for me.
The bad: some of the dialogue choices were ech. The revelation at about 2/3 in was just kinda glossed over like its nbd that the relationship is supported by lies of omission.
Overall, not my favorite. 2⭐
I couldn't get though this audiobook. The reading was so monotone and I just couldn't pay attention the book. I might have to get the book and see if I can get into it that way.
