Serena Otaki has a rule for herself. No falling in love. Her one true love is physics and she doesn’t want to lose herself, and her love of physics, to a man. Henry Joule is her complete opposite; he has many loves, including physics, family, and friends. And he’s not afraid to fall in love.
When our two protagonists meet for the first time, they have an instant magnetic pull to each other. This attraction- love- is what causes Serena to disappear after their first encounter. The draw to Henry is too great that she fears she will lose everything she loves to become a wife. Little does she know that Henry Joule is her new boss.
A year later, the pair are at work when a strange electrical failure occurs that causes both parties to wake up in the other person’s body. This unlikely duo has to work together to figure out how to switch back to their own bodies while navigating each other’s quirks.

I selected this book without knowing it was a sequel but that didn’t matter, it is definitely a book that can stand on its own. The story and characters are cute and the book is well written. There is a lot of quirkiness to it, like footnotes and graphs, that make it fun and a little more interesting.
The narration is a little slow so I listened at 1.5 instead of my usual 1.25 but other than that it’s very easy to listen to.
Overall it was a little too science focused for me personally. If you are into physics and good-guy love stories, this book is for you! I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys books like Love, Theoretically.

This audiobook took a while for me to get invested in.

“I only fear two things in life. Love and Spaghettification”

This was nice read and I appreciated watching Serena & Henry getting to understand the other better whilst they literally walked in each other’s bodies.

His large family was fun to read about. The hang ups that Serena experiences in relation to love are explored.

Thanks to W.W. Crown, an imprint of Swift and Lewis Publishing, and Netgalley for the audio book. All thoughts are my own.

Switched by Sarah Ready was a sweet tale of two people in love with a sci-fi bent. I really loved the way this story was told and the venture away from the mundane and instead weaves a story with interesting plot points and superb storytelling.

Switched

I was kindly gifted the audiobook of this from netgalley.

This was brilliant, I really really loved it. It has freaky Friday vibes which was amazing. Loved how being each other bodies was able to show our main character Serena that there are many ways that people can love.

This story is mostly from Serena pov with moments from the lovely Henry

The story was funny, sweet and really enjoyable.
The narrators for this book were brilliant.

Honestly this book was so good. I can't wait to go back and read the first one and I am looking forward to the third book in this series. You can definitely read this book as a standalone.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced audio copy of “Switched” by Sarah Ready. All opinions are my own.

I previously read her book “Ghosted” and got a glimpse at this character so I am glad she is getting her own story.

I love a “freaky friday” switched situation so that was part of what drew me to this book. So far I am enjoying the magical / fantasy of this romance series!

The narrators were great!! I just did not like amount of science jargon. It made me zone out during those parts or want to skip ahead. The FMC was not likeable in my opinion.

I really enjoy this book
I realize I’m such a fan of magic realism in contemporary romance
This book is like freaky Friday with a twist
Second chance romance, workplace romance and a magical body swap between our FMC and MMC

The dialogues are amazing
The way this book describes the experience of a man in a woman’s body and vice versa is certainly… interesting
But I had so much fun listening to this audiobook

There’s really nothing much to say other than I highly recommend this book if you like magic realism in your books
It’s a solid 4 stars for me

Thank you to Sarah Ready and Netgalley for providing me with this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

Thank you to NetGalley and W.W. Crown and Imprint of Swift & Lewis Publishing for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

Switched is a pleasant, relatively lighthearted rom-com. It features body swaps and enemies-to-lovers if you’re into that kinda stuff. It’s some cute stuff, and if you like a cosy casual read, I think this fits right in with that.

I listened to the audiobook, with the story mainly told from the female character’s perspective, all in first person. It had some meta moments, which I get can be funny, but didn’t really work for me. Minor tidbit, the male narrator’s voice didn’t really match up with the “male voice” the female narrator was doing. I found this rather jarring, such that I feel like it would have been slightly better without him. Sorry.

I don’t know how I feel about the characters overall, their motivations and convictions didn’t really inspire me, felt slightly one-note in order to push the narrative a certain way. The body swap was not explained, especially, in a book starring physicists. Either let science explain it, with weird blackhole nonsense, or lean into the magic and their disbelief of it rather than just some random psychic.

Anywho, the book still provided an enjoyable escape from reality, and that's a win in my books.

Switched by Sarah Ready is a good fit for readers looking for a lighthearted and emotional romance story, centered around the theme of two people from different walks of life finding love and connection after unexpectedly swapping bodies in a sci-fi setting.

The beginning of this book reminded me a lot of the Bellow Zero short story, not because pf a repetitive narrative bit because of the chemistry between characters.
Below Zero vibes turn into Freaky Friday vibes and by the end is just a standard rom com.

It was a good book. An entertaining story. As a woman in STEM, I see myself in some of the main characters choices. The main characters best friend is a missable character because the story is so focused on the Duckie and Henry.
The breaking of the forth wall was inconsistent over the book.

Sarah Ready quickly became one of my favorite authors in 2023 and today is pub day for her newest novel, Switched.

You’ll have to suspend disbelief on this magical realism/sci-fi/romcom but it’s a cute read set in Switzerland. This one is science heavy at times and would be a great book for a challenge for a woman in STEM prompt.

Thanks to @netgalley I tandem read the ebook while listening to the audiobook. The narrators did an excellent job, and the ebook is unique. It features footnotes, illustrations and graphs.

Switched is book 2 in the Ghosted series but can be read as a standalone without any confusion. I’m looking forward to book 3 coming out later this year.

Switched by Sarah Ready is a strange but cute story. I was excited to read because I loved Ghosted. Sadly Switched wasn't as fun for me. It's a little longer than necessary. My biggest disappointment was the single POV. I think the story would have greatly benefited from dual POV because of their strange body swap situation. I really wanted to know what Henry was thinking. I loved the science talk and descriptions of CERN. I wish there was more of Captain Purrk! The audio narrator was great. I loved her perky sunshine voice. She was perfect for Duckie.

Thank you W. W. Crown, and imprint of Swift & Lewis Publishing, LLC, and Net Galley for this audio ARC!

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to listen to this awesome book! I love paranormal unusual romance and this one did not disappoint. Imagine Freaky Friday but with Scientist who are in love. I really appreciated the awareness the characters got from being in reversed roles and also loved the family dynamics with each characters family. I have already downloaded the first book in this series and anticipate reading the third!

Sarah Ready has gained her place among one of my auto-pick authors whenever I need a light read. Switched, the second part of Ghosted (for which I didn't write a review here, my bad), provides just that.

The Story:

Serena Otaki and Henry Joules are physicists at CERN and that is where the similarity ends. Both are as different as chalk and cheese. But when both fall in love at first sight with each other, Serena knows it will not work out for them.

But will the universe bring them together, after all?

What I Liked:

For once, the heroine of a rom-com was not a bumbling, clumsy, "I don't know how beautiful I am" sort. Serena is clever and beautiful and she owns both these aspects without regrets.

The story was fast-paced and held my attention throughout.

Several points were hilarious, especially Serena's attempts to talk in British English once they switched.

The psychic (surely she requires a standalone book, I swear).

The descriptions of CERN and Switzerland.

What I Disliked (Or Didn't Like All That Much):

Henry was...too perfect? His monologue at the end read something like dream-fulfillment. Surely no man talks that way?

The switch went too smoothly. Sure, there were some accent issues in the beginning but that is all. I mean, if I switched with someone, I would freak out for DAYS!!

The Physics explanations. Sure, the author has done her homework and it shows but it totally went over my head (my problem, I know, not the author's fault).

The "non-communication" trope. But then half these books won't exist if the protagonists start expressing themselves clearly.

Final Thoughts:

If you are ready for some mind-boggling physics and to suspend disbelief, this book is right up your alley. If you have read Ghosted, you will know what to expect. Jillian and Daniel make an appearance in this book, too, but Switched can be read as a standalone nevertheless.

There is yet another book to the series that I am looking forward to. Thanks to Netgalley and W. W. Crown for the audio ARC.

4 stars.

Sarah Ready is quickly becoming one of my go-to rom-com writers. I love her characters, the storylines are always unique. "Switched" was no exception and is in my top three of her books for sure! Think Freaky Friday but if it was with a co-worker who you'd previously hooked up with and are now pretending you are disinterested in just so things don't get weird. Cue a wedding and an unexpected trip home. It was a lot of fun to read (listen to).

I think Kelsey Navarro Foster is a phenomenal narrator. She does an excellent job of capturing the character and engaging the listener. I would listen to everything thing she narrate. While, I think James Anderson Foster is also a good narrator he did not feel right for this character and it pulled from the book. Quite honestly, his narration style felt jarring in comparison to Kelsey's and really took me out of the story. He has more of a classic narrator vibe, with a flatter delivery. Which would be great for a spy thriller, but maybe not for a rom-rom. I think it would have been better to just let Kelsey narrate that chapter since she had been narrating "Henry" the whole time since Serena took over his body.

Thank you NetGalley and W.W. Crown for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

A combination of Ali Hazelwood's Love, Theoretically and Freaky Friday, this was an incredible story. This is well-written and the magical realism made sense. Having love interests learn about each other while stuck in each other's body was a welcomed twist like nothing else I've ever read before!

The audiobook was well done, even with different accents. I will absolutely listen to more books with these narrators!

Switched was somehow cute and entirely not cute and creepy and weirdly fascinating all at the same time. I really wanted to love this book, and it had enough good qualities to eek out four stars from me, but Sarah Ready taught me that body swap romances are not my cup of tea.
I’ve been enamored with magical realism in 2024 and also reading more romances lately, so Switched should’ve been an easy 5 star review, but the moments where they felt lust for their own bodies were too CREEPY and hard to get past in a lot of places. There had to be another way of writing those scenes or this cocept in general.
That said, I do like Ready’s writing style and will likely try the other books in the Ghosted series—assuming they deal with an entirely different type of paranormal or magical romance. The female narrator was on point and I didn’t mind her British male voice even though it didn’t sound realistic at all. The male narrator at the end was dreadful. He completely jolted me out of the book and I forgot for a moment what I was listening to. Was his accent fake, too?
In the end: Worth checking out if you enjoy magical realism and paranormal romances or are a STEM or Star Trek nerd and won’t be turned off by the body swapping.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It has a fun and quirky vibe with elements of Freaky Friday. The story follows Serena, a California girl, and Henry, a British guy, both scientists working in Geneva, Switzerland. They meet and hit it off, but Serena decides to nope on out because she doesn't want to fall in love.

After about a year or so working together, there is some kind of energy event saving thing in Geneva, and everyone gets a two-week holiday. While Henry and Serena are at the facility during a storm, an event occurs, and they wake up in each other's bodies. Henry has to attend his brother's wedding, so the two of them fake date and travel to England and then to California to meet Serena's family.

During the two-week affair, they get to know each other and share memories that bring them closer together. They get into some awkward positions and hear what their families really think about them. The banter between the two of them is what I enjoyed the most. They are ridiculous, and the story is wild, but the dialogue is funny and engaging. I found myself laughing out loud and rooting for them to have a happy ending.

This is not a spicy romance, but it is quirky and funny, with a few almost spicy scenes. It is a quick and enjoyable read. Like Ready's other books, she excels at creating fun dialogue that immerses the reader in a fantastical setting.

Sarah, Mrs Ready, is phenomenal!!! this was perfection. I wasn't sure what to expect, but omg this was so freaking good. Its a newer take on an old 'body switch' trope!! I can't wait for all my friends to read this book
