I spent the first 10% of listening to Switched rolling my eyes; I'm not one for meta in books, and footnotes in audiobooks do not work for me. I was so close to DNFing this book, but I'm pleased I stuck with it and got to know Serena and Henry.
This is the first body-switch book I've ever read and as a fan of the 2003 version of Freaky Friday, I'm not sure why I haven't read more of them! Serena and Henry both work for CERN, and are both passionate physicists. And that's where the similarities end.
Henry and Serena spent the night together two years prior where Henry falls head over heels, but Serena doesn't do romance. At all. In a freak storm, Henry and Serena switch bodies and are desperate to get back to their own lives whilst tackling a family wedding and a family illness in each other's bodies. The two characters have a lot of chemistry and despite the insta-love (not my personal favourite), this was a very sweet story of walking a mile in somebody else's shoes.
Tropes:
↠ Body Switch
↠ He Falls First
↠ Second Change Romance
↠ Woman in STEM
↠ Opposites Attract
When I requested this ARC, I had no idea it was part of a series. Thankfully this reads perfectly well as a standalone (although it definitely has me interested enough to go back to the first book to read all about Jillian and Daniel's story), so don't let this put you off.
I did think the book could have been about 25% shorter than it was, but overall I had a fun time and will 100% look into more books by Sarah Ready.
Thanks to Netgalley for an audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A sweet rom com with Freaky Friday meets Big Bang Theory vibes! I enjoyed listening to this book and Valentine's Day was a great day to finish it. It was just ducky ;)
This was my first book from Sarah Ready! I'll look for more from this author
Thank you to Netgalley and W. W. Crown, and imprint of Swift & Lewis Publishing, LLC, Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Audiobooks for the ARC of this book.
Book 2 in the Ghosted series. Could technically be a stand alone, but I'd recommend reading book one, as Serena appears in it. Some characters from book 1 appear in this one.
This started out rough for me. Like I nearly DNFed it a few times rough. The first 25% was so science-y. Like, I get that Serena is a physicist, but parts were too detailed for my interest.
Thankfully, it got much, much better. I really liked the fact that you were able to get insight into what makes both Serena and Henry them. You really got a clear picture of why Serena is so against love.
The audiobook is mainly narrated by Kelsey Navarro Foster, with one chapter by James Anderson Foster. Both do a good job. I am sure it took a lot of prep work as there are really four "voices"- both Serena and Henry alternate between British and American accents.
I received an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
"Switched" by Sarah Ready was a fun, romantic audiobook and a new twist on the "Freaky Friday" premise. The author does a great job of telling the reader about the strangeness of a woman in a man's body and vice versa during the story. It was also great how the story brought to life Star Trek and nerdy science references. This is a good one for anyone looking for a romance for two people in STEM jobs which is a popular reading challenge topic these days.
I loved how the author brought them into each other's lives so completely in this book. She did a good job with emotions, all of the 5 senses and just was very descriptive of the different experiences in the book.
I listened to the audiobook and thought the narration was good overall. The female narrator did an excellent job with the majority of the book. The turn came at the end when the narration switched to the male narrator. I felt the voice of the narrator was older than what I would picture the voice for the male character in this book. I would have preferred someone with a younger sounding voice though he is a good narrator and was someone I would listen to again if I saw him as a narrator.
Thank you to NetGalley and W. W. Crown, an imprint of Swift & Lewis Publishing, LLC, for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook ARC. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are independent of the receipt of the ARC.
This book is magical, beautiful and an amazing listen. I adored this book…every book from Sarah keeps getting better and better.
Serena is a unique, free spirit and highly intelligent woman. I love her quirky personality and how she is a bit geeky…but brilliant.
Henry is also a geeky, loves physics and loves his tea. He is a fun, quirky and smexy character.
The banter, dialogue and tension between these two is fantastic. The premise of this story is so creative and I love how each of them gets to experience what the opposite sex goes through on a daily basis. So many funny moments!!
You will go through all the emotions while reading this fun, creative and entertaining story.
Kelsey Navarro Foster and James Anderson Foster deliver an exceptional performance. They gave the characters perfect voice, personality and emotion. I love audiobooks and how the narrators can give the listener a whole new experience to enjoying an authors words.
Thank you Social Butterfly PR and Sarah Ready for the advanced listening copy.
I am a complete sucker for all nerdy, big bang theory type of romances in books, shows, or movies so this audiobook was perfect for me. Serena and Henry were opposites in almost every way but their instant connection was obvious, I’m honestly surprised they survived for 2 years before admitting anything to each other. The whole ‘freaky Friday’ switch was a little out of my normal interests but it definitely kept me entertained and had me laughing! I loved Kelsey Navarro’s narration, and I kind of wished she narrated the entire thing. James narrated just one chapter at the end but by that point I was so used to Kelsey’s narration that his sounded weird for Henry.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of the audiobook for this story in exchange for an honest review.
Switched by Sarah Ready was the first book that I read by this author. It was a sweet romance about a chance meeting that leaves both Henry and Serena believing in love at first site. The only problem is Serena never wants to fall in love. She is a physicist first and foremost and works at her dream job at Cern with the Hadron Collider. After finding out that Henry will be a new colleague, Serena ends things.
One night while working, they find themselves suddenly switching bodies. As they navigate the feelings and memories of the other person, they also attend a wedding and a family emergency. Throughout it all they begin to understand each other in ways they never thought they would. Will love win the day?
I read this story on Valentine's day and found it was such a nice romance. There is some angst with the couple as you see how much they care for each other but can't be together. The story was a quick and easy read. Henry was such a cinnamon roll which I don't see enough as the main love interest. He was charming, sweet, and fell completely in love with the main character. I do feel like we didn't get enough character development with him or to really get to know his character better.
Serena was well developed and I really enjoyed watching her growth from never wanting to lose herself by loving somebody to someone who would risk it all for love. She found that you can be in a relationship without losing who you are. My favorite moment of the book was Serena's mom talking to Serena in Henry's body and confiding in her.
The audiobook narrator was fantastic. Towards the end of the book they have a Henry narrated chapter and there is a male narrator. It was understandable as it was in his boice, but the narrator was not at all what I expected from Henry so it oulled me iut of the story a little bit. The elements of family and finding yourself were great. Overall this was a very enjoyable story!
Switched by Sarah Ready: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Happy Valentine’s Day! After reading and loving Ghosted last year, I have been anxiously awaiting the next book in the set, Switched, to publish. I’m glad to report it was worth the wait!
Switched is a delightful rom com about Serena and Henry- two physicists who could not be more different despite having the same career! Serena doesn’t believe in love and quickly douses the sparks between them after their first encounter. But a freak accident at their workplace results in the unthinkable- Serena and Henry have switched bodies, à la Freaky Friday. Forced to literally walk in each other’s shoes, they have no choice but to work together to search for a solution, while getting a good long peek at the grass on the other side.
I really liked this book! If you enjoyed Love Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood last year, you would probably like the return to the world of physics. The body switching element was more comical than I was expecting, which made for a fun read! I was rooting for Serena and Henry from the first chapter and loved watching their story unfold.
A note on the audio- narrator Kelsey Navarro Foster did fantastic work maintaining four primary voices; two main characters with different accents, and then flipping them into each other’s bodies! And her husband James Anderson Foster is also featured in the audio (and seriously, how cute is that?!)
Switched officially publishes next week on February 22nd, but was available “Read Now/Listen Now” on NetGalley. Thank you to the publisher for the ARC and ALC in exchange for my review!
Wow, Jessica listened to another romance novel and really enjoyed it! This is the second in the Ghosted series. It isn’t necessary to have read Ghosted before this one because Jillian and Daniel’s story is mentioned in Switched, but I really do recommend it! Their story also continues since Switched happens after Ghosted. So far in this series we have extremely smart FMCs (female main characters) with STEM careers, that are also nerdy but adorable. It’s great to have strong female characters with this type of career!
To be honest, I wasn’t really interested in the book until Serena and Henry switched bodies. I think it was a ‘me’ thing with some things going on in my life. But once that switch happened the book took off for me.
Switched is very entertaining and hilarious at times. We see what happens when you are not just in another person’s body, but someone of the opposite gender! Both Serena and Henry have experiences as the opposite sex. And really, we do see that women really are the stronger gender! Full on hilarity ensues, I just don’t want to say what as a minor spoiler. We do have a small amount of spice that I could have done without. Remember…. I’ve figured out that I seem to be a ‘fade to black’/ ‘behind closed door’ romance reader.
Here are some of the tropes we have in Switched:
Fake Dating
One Night Stand
Forced Proximity
We have two narrators: Kelsey Navarro Foster and James Anderson Foster, who are married in ‘real life’! Kelsey did a fabulous job! She really captured everything with the characters down to the ‘bad English accent’ with Serena attempting to be Henry. James only narrated for one chapter, and for that I was thankful as his voice for this chapter did not work for me.
Sarah Ready is an author I discovered last year and Switched is the third book I have listened to from her, and I have enjoyed them all! She’s an author I plan to read/listen to more. And with a third book in the Ghosted series coming out in July, I am ready for another book from her! And for one who doesn’t really read much romance, that is saying something! And let me just say that the covers of the books in this series… It’s very tempting for me to want physical copies of them because they are just… Gorgeous!
Many thanks to the publisher for having these audiobooks available to listen to and reviewing!

Switched, the second book in Sarah Ready’s Ghosted series, once again forces the reader to suspend their beliefs between the scientific and cosmic worlds. It is filled with emotions of love & fear. And at the core of this story is a simple lesson: do not judge someone until you have walked in their shoes.
Audio Review
Kelsey Navarro Foster & James Anderson Foster provide the narration for this book and their performances are well suited to their characters. (Although, the listener does have to wait until almost the end of the book for Anderson Foster to narrate). Navarro Foster has a solid British accent when narrating in Henry’s voice. Personally, my favorite part of her narration is Henry’s experience of having to deal with Serena’s menstrual cycle. I laughed SO hard!! Navarro-Forster did a great job with this moment.
Also, when Serena tries to run away from her feelings of love toward Henry, Navarro Foster provides the perfect amount of panic in Serena’s voice. Anderson Foster’s narration of Henry’s voice (toward the end) nicely brings out the emotions Henry feels in that moment. Of course, this is the part of the story where there were tears, crying & a cup of tea - all by me. All easily explained once the book is listened to or read.
I definitely recommend making a cup of tea (or coffee) and settling in for a good listen.
A gender-bending Freaky Friday. Serena and Henry come together for one explosive night that leaves them both reeling and Serena gets scared. After finding out that Henry will be her new boss, Serena scares Henry off because she only has room in her life for one love: physics. Love will change who she is, and Serena likes who she is. After one weird evening at work, Henry and Serena switch bodies. The only thing that will save them is understanding the other. It seems the universe has plans for Henry and Serena.
*Special thanks to NetGalley and W.W. Crown for this audio e-arc.*
Sarah Ready has been added to my insta-read authors list. This book was the perfect follow up to Ghosted. I loved getting more acquainted with Serena, Jillian from Ghosted’s best friend. Serena’s adventure in figuring out what love is was so wonderful. Henry was a fabulous character to match Serena. The plot line of the body switching was so fun, it’s been done but this version was original and so amazing. I had so much fun reading this book. My favourite quote sums up what Serena had to figure out: “And by ‘true love,’ I don’t mean the kind where you’re giving yourself up. I mean the kind where you’re fully you.” It was bit too sciency towards the beginning but it’s necessary for the story and fits the characters.
I really enjoyed the narrator especially since she was the same one from Ghosted. The one chapter with the male narrator for the Henry chapter after they switch back was great too.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Sarah Ready for the chance to read this very fun book.
How clever! A good body switch story is almost always fun but this went a step further. I laughed out loud at some of the situations that were a result of a man and a woman in the other’s body. Truly enjoyable and I can’t wait tell everyone about it!
I promised myself that I would try reading some new authors this year. I am so glad I took a chance on Sarah Ready. This book was nothing like I was expecting and that’s not a bad thing.
This is the second book in the Ghosted series, you don’t have to read book one first, which I haven’t, however, I will be going back and doing so, because I really liked this book so I want to read more of her books and meet more of the characters!
This is Henry and Serena’s book. This romance was like your typical romance story. It had a twist to it. It's kind of Freaky Friday or It's a Boy Girl Thing vibes… these two go to sleep and wake up in each other's bodies the next morning. They have to learn to live each other's lives, learn their jobs, be around each other's families and try and act like nothing is up while they try and get used to their new bodies.
I loved Henry and Serena so much. I love an Insta-love when written well and this was perfect. I loved their banter. It was hilarious.
This book had me laughing throughout it. It was such a fun, quirky and enjoyable listen.
4 STARS!!
Thank you NetGalley and W. W. Crown, an imprint of Swift & Lewis Publishing, LLC, for the chance to listen to this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first Sarah Ready book but absolutely will not be my last. If you love the STEMinist fire of Ali Hazelwood and magical realism of Ashely Poston & Sophie Cousens- this book is for you!
If hearing that this is a Freaky Friday-esque switcheroo and the potential of endless cringe/anxiety inducing situations scares you off-think again. While their path is certainly bumpy- it's written in a way that is more fascinating than anything else. Observing how they begin to see each other as they become the other was really something.
I’m not quite romantic enough to be able to enjoy this book in the way it’s meant to be enjoyed. I liked the premise, but the insta-love and some of the romantic descriptions just did not hit for me. I spent half the book wondering what starlight is supposed to smell like.
That said, I loved the audio narrators and the switched concept. I particularly enjoyed the way the author approached memories and characteristics within the switch.
Overall the book was okay. I’d recommend to a dreamy romantic or someone who wants a cute romance and doesn’t mind the fantastical bits. It was a good Valentine’s read.
Ready is one of my favorite authors; she just has a way of writing relatable, authentic characters & funny yet emotional storylines & this one was no different. I loved the Freaky Friday aspect of the story and Serena’s character arc was a highlight for me. I did not realize this was book 2 after Ghosted (which I loved), so I was so happy to see those characters return. This can be read as a standalone though. I would have liked to see more of Henry’s POV, but I did appreciate that we got to see how both characters dealt with their respective family situations. I alternated between the audiobook and e-book and enjoyed both formats. Overall, if you are a fan of Ali Hazelwood or Katherine Center, I highly recommend!
I’m assuming that in this day and age more or less everyone has seen or heard of body swap movie Freaky Friday? Well Switched is kinda like that except it’s a not quite couple who switch places! Serena and her co-worker (and previous insanely amazing one night stand) accidentally swap into each other’s bodies.
You have to just completely give over to your imagination reading this for sure however it’s totally worth it. At first I wasn’t sure how it was going to be handled… a man being in a woman’s body and vice versa, but it turned out great. I took an instant shine to Serena. She has a dry sense of humour and is completely cynical about love which I can relate to.
I listened to the audio of this, my third audiobook from this author and I really enjoyed it. There’s footnotes referenced and I really enjoyed listening to them in audio because it was like having a conversation with someone who went off on tangents with additional information then came back to the main story! Highly recommend.
I thought this was a great listen. I liked the narrators and the story flowed well and kept me interested. I haven’t read anything by this author before but I really liked how easy it was to immerse myself into the story. I liked how much time the characters spent trying to get used to being in another body. Most books make a comment at the beginning and hardly mention it again. This book remind of this switch multiple times and I loved it. Also loved them around family and friends and how they had to adjust and trust each other. The ending was a bit of an eye roll but the rest was good. It was such an awesome listen that I would definitely recommend others check this book out!
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the arc.
Thanks to NetGalley and W.W crown imprint & swift publishers for an audio copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
If Freaky Friday and The big bang theory had a baby, then this book would be it.
Ducky is a theoretical physicist working at CERN in Geneva when a chance encounter at an English themed pub draws her to meet her soul mate? After the best night of her life she decides she swears of a relationship in order to prioritise scientific ambitions. When her one night stand turn out to be her new boss at CERN complications arise which eventually lead to a body switchable type of situation. Ducky aka Serena finds herself inside the body of stiff upper lipped englishman Henry and Henry finds himself inside chaos hungry Ducky. The only way to switch back is if they can both somehow understand each other. In this ultimate opposites attract scenario will they be able to switch back?
Ok so this is the type of magical realism I usually love, but when the main even I.e the body swapping doesn't actually happen until 25% of the book, I start to lose interest. Couple that with oh so much science minus the humour of the big bang theory and it starts to sound like you are being talked down at. I felt myself not caring enough about the characters to ever be hooked by the book which is such a shame as its cute enough bit not gripping enough. Probably the best moment of the book though is when Henry get a period for the first time "I think I'm dying!"
Cute enough but I wanted more.
