Henry and Serena have an incredible night, both feel an incredible connection, but for Serena she refuses to give up anything for a man and writes it off as a night of fun. Turns out our Henry is her new boss and they are forced to be together every day. In the lab on a stormy evening sparks fly and Henry and Serena switch bodies. This forces them to spend every minute together until they can figure it out.

This was a lot of fun. Imagine Freaky Friday but with a couple that have seen each other naked!! Sarah Ready is always a good choice when looking for a cute, magical, fun romance. There were a lot of laugh out loud moments, very tender parts and great chemistry. This one is the 2nd book in the Ghosted series and was just as good as the first if not better.

The narration was a little off for me and I almost stopped listening. Once the story got rolling it was better and I ended up enjoying it. This one might be a better read than a listen in my opinion.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I am so glad someone told me to not give up on this book because it was worth pushing through the first 20% of the book.

This was not my first Sarah Ready book so I was a little confused when I wasn't hooked from the very beginning but hang tight because once the characters make their switch it quickly became un-put-downable. I laughed and had such a good time when Serena & Henry had to figure out their new bodies. I loved the unique take on this "already been done" take on switching bodies.

Along with the slow start I also wasn't a huge fan of all of the science talk. I understand this maybe a positive for some readers but for me it felt disengaging.

Although I have critiques I would definitely recommend the book!

I also listened to the audio of this book. I think I would have preferred the physical book but I was able to listen and finish.

Back of the book summary:
For Serena Otaki, free-spirited Californian, life is simple. She loves smashing atoms at The Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland. She loves Star Trek, spicy tofu, and her cat, Captain Purrk. She loves her messy (slob-fest) apartment, her chaotic brand of organizing, and staying permanently, happily unattached.

Life is perfect. She has one true love—physics.

Loving a man isn’t in her future.

For Henry Joules, uptight Brit, life is simple. He loves making analog black holes, drinking piping hot tea, and organizing his pencil tray. He loves his family, red meat, and obsessively cleaning his spotless apartment.

Life is perfect. He has many loves—physics, family, friends. He can’t wait to find the woman of his dreams.

Love and marriage are in his future.

One perfect night Serena and Henry meet. Sparks fly, particles collide, the universe comes to a halt, and…

It was a mistake.

They’re too different.

It won’t work.

Love isn’t in their future.

Until an electric storm causes an unexpected event at the particle collider and suddenly—they’ve switched.

Serena is in Henry’s body.

Henry is in Serena’s body.

And both life and love are suddenly very, very complicated.

This was a great book. I do not seeing myself using it for education, but definitely will recommend for those looking for something good to read.

Serena, a free-spirit from California found her one true love when she was a child and she vowed to never let anything get in the way of that. Physics has always been there for her and it always will and she has her dream job at The Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland, so how could she put that in danger by falling for a guy? Henry is content with his life. He loves his job, his family, his apartment, but he is very much looking for love and marriage. One perfect night has Henry and Serena meeting and sparks flying, but everything comes to a screeching halt when things become a little to real for Serena and Henry ends up being her new boss. It was all a mistake, but one electric storm causes something out of this world to happen. Henry and Serena have switched bodies and have to work together to find a way to switch back before time runs out.

I won't lie, this wasn't my favorite from Sarah, but I still had a fantastic time with this read/listen. It had all the hallmarks of a Sarah Ready book, humor with a good mix of emotion, and I was rooting for Serena and Henry from the start of this book. Most of the science-y stuff definitely went over my head, but that didn't take away from the story for me at all, and I really enjoyed the graphs, charts, and lists that were used to explain the science. And just like the first book, I loved the nerdy aspects of this book with the love of Star Trek. Though I don't think you should avoid this book if you don't like or know Star Trek.

I did wish there was more from Henry's POV, but that's just purely for selfish reasons. I still got a good grasp on his character and I never questioned how he felt about Serena. I loved the character growth we got to see from Serena and I liked how her backstory played a part in this book. I honestly loved how the two of them worked together and how their relationship developed. This was honestly such a good time and I can't wait for the next in the series.

I enjoyed listening to the audiobook of this book. It is a contemporary romance with science fiction and magical realism. Overall I love the plot and the characters of Switched. I also love the audiobook of this book, the narration is also great.

5🌟 Magical realism, force proximity, Instalove, and second chance romance. I loved this book and the audiobook was amazing as well. It was the perfect blend of a STEM romance from Ali Hazelwood and the magical realism of Rebecca Serle. Not only is the story great, but the author adding in drawings, footnotes, and having the main character break the 4th wall occasionally made this story the perfect reading experience in my eyes. If you like Freaky Friday and love romances this book is for you!

Audiobook: 4⭐️ Narrated by Kelsey Navarro Foster and James Anderson Foster. The audiobook is excellent. I enjoyed the narrator and how she told the story.

Thank you NetGalley, W.W. Crown Books, and Swift and Lewis Publishing LLC for the eARC of Switched by Sarah Ready (ebook and audiobook) in exchange for my honest review.

Take the characters of an Ali Hazelwood novel, give them the humor of The Big Band Theory show, and put them in an Freaky Friday situation.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The humor was a little cringey sometimes and the FMC was a little hard to like in the beginning – but it (and she) grows on you. By the end of the book I was a huge fan of both the FMC and her humor.

Pros:
- Strong female characters
- Women in STEM
- Great chemistry between FMC and MMC
- Beautiful and beautifully described settings
- Science described in an understandable way

Cons:
- Other woman drama (slight)
- There could have been more discussion of them adjusting to their "new" bodies
- Cringey humor

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The humor was a little cringey sometimes and the FMC was a little hard to like in the beginning – but it (and she) grows on you. By the end of the book I was a huge fan of both the FMC and her humor.

Expect a VERY slow burn, but excellent plot. Kind of like Freaky Friday with science and sprinkles! Great character development before the main event so you really feel like you know them rather than just jumping right into the switch. Great read/listen!

I had not read Sarah Ready before, so I was completely unprepared for this book. I thought it would be funny and romantic, but I had no idea how insightful it would be. I took extra time with this book because I wanted to reflect on what she had written. I loved Serena and Henry, I loved the descriptions of the locations, and I loved the deft way the themes were woven through the story. I would love to list all the things I loved, but that would take forever and spoil some surprises. I'll just say that I loved all of it, and I am now headed for her backlist.
I also have the audiobook, and Kelsey Navarro Foster was the perfect choice to narrate this. I always think that her best work is when the characters are confused and/or indignant, so that fits the humor of this book beautifully. She does a terrific job with the accents and the accent confusion -- there's a lot going on that she juggled. Her performance was a perfect match for an excellent book.

Rating: 3.75 stars

Switched is a modern day Freaky Friday x STEM novel. Serena, a laid back and doesn't have time for love physicist, has a rather interesting encounter with Henry (who surprisingly is her new boss😏). During an electrical storm, something rather sparking happens (get it?), and our main characters find that they have "Switched" and now must figure out life in each other shoes.

This was a lovely romance novel (though heavy in science), that showed a strong evolution and learned understanding of the characters.

Tropes for this novel include:
- STEM
- One-night stand
- Fake dating
- Forced proximity (literally)

Thank you to NetGalley, Sarah Ready, and W. W. Crown for a copy!

3 Stars

This novel had what I call a "Sunday afternoon movie" kind of vibe.

I have read my share of 3-star adult romances but never one with this concept. I have watched a few movies with "switched" characters, but reading a book is quite different. You are inside the character's head, and you get all those weird questions that came to mind while watching these kinds of movies answered.

It felt a little insta-lovey and there was a lot of telling me instead of showing me or making me feel all that passion was real. It was a cute fluffy read with a little bit of family dinamics. I also apreciated the main character's growth.

I enjoyed the narrator, which made the reading experience very smooth.

This is interesting to review. Because the writing was well done, for the most part, the narrator was fine, and several things made me laugh.

I don't even mind the plot point of the characters getting switched. What I couldn't wrap my mind around was them still being attracted to each other, kissing, and wanting more. The author did say the characters didn't see themselves, they saw the person they actually were, but I could not move past that!

Other than that, I did enjoy the book and would read another of hers.

I almost wish I had read this as a digital book rather than the audio, purely to see the footnotes.

Loved the scientific rhetoric and the chemistry between the main characters. I did feel the pacing was a little off at times but overall the story flowed well.

Definitely one for those who enjoy Ali Hazelwood, Ashley Poston or cosy romance with a touch of magic/supernatural.

This will be especially fun for science nerds, and those who struggle with being true to yourself while falling in love. The narration was well done. Even with the body swap, the narrator was able to give distinguishable voices to the male and female MC’s.
Thank you #NetGalley for the arc audiobook!

I could not get into this book. There was a story but it did not grab my attention as I would have liked. If you really love science with a side of romance then this may be a good fit.

Note: This review is of the audiobook version of Sarah Ready's Switched, narrated by Kelsey Navarro Foster and James Anderson Foster.. I am wrting it as someone who only uses audiobooks therefore I can't compare it with the print editions of this or any other similar titles. The ALC (Advanced Listener Copy) was provided by the publishers through Netgalley for the purpose of review.

Serena (Ducky) Otaki loves physics. She has her dream job in Geneva theorizing and studying the nature of the universe via Cern's Large Hadron Collider. It takes up her whole heart and that's how it has to stay, because loving a man will only take her away from her life's work and rob her of her dreams. She's seen it happen a million times. When couples are created the independent woman disappears. She will never let herself be absorbed away into coupledom like an angler fish.
So when Serena meets Henry Joule and their one night together sparks something that feels a lot like love, she has no choice but to push that feeling far far away. Especially when Henry tells her that he feels it too. Especially when she finds out the sexy Brit she just spent the most amazing night of her life with is her new boss.
Fast forward to a year and a half later and Serena is living her life as a genius physicist and Henry Joule is just her overbearing and irritating boss. She's about to leave work for the day when Henry calls her over to the hadron collider to go over some of her theories and a storm hits. An anomaly occurs and Serena wakes up in Henry's bed... and in his body... and Henry is now in hers.
In Switched, Sarah Ready's follow-up to Ghosted, Henry and Serena must navigate one another's lives as they attempt to find a way to switch back before it's too late.
Although it could have easily become confusing, Kelsey Navarro Foster's narration expertly showcases the nuances Ready created in her first person POV accounts of Serena as herself and then Serena living in Henry's body. The unexpected chapter where James Anderson Foster narrates Henry's POV added drama to the multiple twists in Ready's work of magical realism in romance.
The plot is slow to start but then picks up speed when Serena and Henry switch about a third of the way into the book. At first Serena's science talk seems daunting, even with the explanations she provides through breaking the fourth wall. It was difficult to invest in Serena as a character until the plot started moving along and the reasons behind her actions began to emerge. The conclusion of the story had enough twists to make me furious at times, which only resulted in me becoming more invested in the book.
Switched was my first time reading any of Sarah Ready's books but I ended up picking up Ghosted because I enjoyed this one so much. Readers who have read Ghosted will find this one to be pretty different but the differences are surface level enough that you can still tell they are by the same author. The differences seem to mostly come out in the pace of the plor and the pace of the character development.
I don't typically read magical realism in romance, but Switched was definitely worth stepping out of my usual romcom comfort zone for.
I'd give it 4 stars and I'd say it's a one on the spice scale but the female main character uses a lot of innuendo in conversation. However there are no graphic scenes in the storyline.

4.5 stars, rounded up.

Many thanks to Netgalley and WW Crown/Swift & Lewis publishing for providing me with an arc of this audiobook in return for an honest review.

Serena and Henry have an incredible night together before Serena discovers that Henry is her new boss - despite knowing that this was way more than a one night stand for both of them, she calls it off. Over a year later they are both at work late, at the Large Hadron Collider at SERN, when there is a power cut. The next morning they awake in one another’s bodies, join them for the journey at trying to get back to their own bodies whilst navigating their lives.

This is fabulous, it’s kinda like an ‘Ali Hazelwood meets Freaky Friday’. I had so much fun with it. It uses a LOT of tropes (love at first sight, second chance, fake dating, opposites attract, only one bed), but because it’s such a mash up, it doesn’t feel like a cliché and it is just fun. It explores what makes a person themselves and being your authentic self.

There is a lot of fun with Serena and Henry meeting one another’s families in the wrong bodies, there are some American and British stereotypes thrown in there which isn’t my favourite. I also LOVE that two scientists are struggling with magical realism the irony hits hard and I really enjoyed them trying to justify the experience with science!

There is kinda a third act drama, but it doesn’t feel as annoying as it often does - like the third act drama makes sense for the story and doesn’t just feel like it was thrown in because that is the structure of romance novels. The narrator was great and I am impressed with their American and British accents!

Given how much vague mention of sex and things there are, this was kinda missing that bit of steam - but other than that and a few cliches I don’t have any faults to mention!

If you like STEM romances, or magical realism, I would highly recommend this, or alternatively just want a romance that is a little more out the box.

This was my second Sarah Ready, I got the opportunity to also listen to ghosted, which was a good, original and emotional book. I did figure that this book would be a continuation, and have some similarities in female character likes, maybe even plot, and while they are both Star Trek lovers that’s about where it stops. In terms of originality, I think this book has it in spades, with a plot I don’t think I’ve heard of being done romantically before. From the accents, to the jokes, this book did feel original all the way through. What I didn’t love was the likelihood not of the switch but of some of the other things. The ex coming on so strong if he was a virgin, the end in the hospital, the inane timing of it all….cure story for sure, but logistically I have a couple qualms. I enjoy Sarah Ready over all and will continue to enjoy her books. Mad props to the narrator of this audio book, that was such a challenge and you executed flawlessly.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this book

Initially, I was hesitant to give this book a try because I typically steer clear of stories that heavily rely on scientific themes. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Sarah Ready's ability to share such familiar emotions of falling in love. Despite the fact that the storyline differs greatly from my own romantic experiences, there was an undeniable sense of relatability woven throughout the narrative. This book felt… nostalgic. While I personally found the beginning of the book to be a bit sluggish due to the extensive focus on scientific concepts, Ready's solid pacing and engaging writing style ultimately drew me in. Although I must confess that opting for the audiobook format may not have been the best choice for me personally, I still found the overall experience to be thoroughly enjoyable. For those in search of a heartwarming love story with a sprinkle of unexpected twists, this book certainly fits the bill and is worth giving a shot.
