Take Freaky Friday and make it a romance, and you have this book. It’s starts as a typical romcom, with a one night stand that turns out to be the new boss. But then it slips into fantasy/sci-fi with a body-swap plot.

I enjoyed the banter and heartfelt dialogue. These characters really connected and it made for a great romance. The steamy scenes were fade-to-black, but still managed to convey passion. I loved the two main characters. The body switching was well done and really helped further the plot. Watching them gain greater understanding of each other was sweet. I thought the various settings were very well described as well. I learned a lot about the Large Hadron Collider.

It worked well as an audiobook. I loved the female narrator. However the section with the male narrator, which didn’t occur till the end, really threw me off because his voice didn’t match the voices the female narrator had established for the characters. I also felt his voice sounded too old to fit the character.

But overall I enjoyed the story and the audiobook. Thank you to @netgalley and @crownpublishing for the chance to review this audiobook. This one publishes February 20, 2024. I now need to go back and read book one in the series!

3.5 stars - This was really cute! I enjoyed the writing style, the characters, and the magical realism. I loved Freaky Friday as a kid so it was fun to listen to a grown up romance version with a STEM twist. I felt that the FMC’s personal growth was necessary and well done overall. It was sweet how the characters’ feelings evolved as they learned more and more about each other, and that the switch was focused on that. The story was very immersive and, like other reviewers, I was left feeling like this kind of body swap could happen in real life! Would absolutely recommend for a fun light-fantasy rom com.

Sarah ready is back with another amazing novel in this series and I’m absolutely in awe of this woman. I have read/listened to most of her books and they keep getting better. She truly needs to be on the #booktok trend.

The magic of science (or science of magic?) is back.

A sorta-sequel to 'Ghosted,' Sarah Ready brings us back to Geneva with another instance of fate taking things into her own hands. (This can be read as a stand-alone; just know that Serena's best friend Jillian met her now-husband when he was a ghost. Yes, you read that right, now read 'Ghosted'!)

Serena has only one love in her life: physics. A scientist at CERN, there's nothing more perfect (or imperfect) in the world than particles flying through space. She's pragmatic, down-to-earth, and very settled in her life. She wants for no man. But then she meets Henry, and it's starlight-at-first-sight. The energy that thrums between them is undeniable and insatiable. And terrifying. So Serena puts a stop to it, creating such havoc that it's like a nuclear bomb went off between them. It's irreparable.

Well, not if Fate has anything to say about it. Because in the middle of an argument at the control room of the particle accelerator, something shifts, and when Serena wakes up the next morning... she's not Serena. She's Henry. And Henry is her. And neither are very happy about this.

What I love about this story is not only the magical realism, but the science along with it. Ali Hazelwood meets Freaky Friday, navigating what it truly means to give yourself over to love. Funny, smart and sweet, this novel tics some very wholesome boxes. Low, fade-to-black spice and mild language (are there even any swear words?), though some adult themes are definitely mentioned and more than hinted at. While I think I preferred Ghosted , I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this book.

I loved Jillian & Daniel’s story in Ghosted, so I was excited to see a second book in this series.

In Switched, we meet Serena, Jillian‘s BFF. Serena is a STEM woman who leads a simple life. She loves her friends and her work, While she dates here and there, her love life is not a priority.

When Serena finds herself in a sticky situation in her local bar, a stranger comes to her rescue. The stars align for them for one night.

That stranger is Henry Joules. He also enjoys a simple life with his friends and family and his job, also in science. He just needs to find the woman of his dreams to complete the picture he has of his future, which definitely includes love and marriage.

Of course, their paths cross again. When an electrical storm causes an unexpected reaction, Serena wakes up in Henry’s body, and he in hers. In an instant, both of their simple lives become very complicated very quickly.

This is where the heart of the story really begins.

I feel like I went through the five stages of grief while reading this (in the best way) I LOVED this book!!! its heartwarming, emotional, humorous, and addicting in all the ways I didn’t expect. Sarah Ready delivers a fantastic and unique STEM romance with a ‘freaky friday’ twist that engages the reader from beginning to end.

Serena ‘Ducky’ Otaki is married to her work as a physicist working in Geneva. She meets the handsome Henry Joule in a hilarious meet-cute where she’s found herself stuck to her chair at a restaurant. Henry bounces into action and becomes the hero of the day, helping her get unstuck and sparking a quick friendship. It’s love at first sight, especially for him, and Serena has to quickly remind herself that her one true passion is her career. She finds herself stuck between a rock and a hard place, lies about their night together, inevitably breaking his heart. Fast forward about a year and a half later, they get ‘freaky fridayed’ and wind up in each others bodies. While they try and navigate how to switch back, hilarious antics ensure, their connection becomes stronger, and Serena is hit with the realization that maybe she can still be her while loving someone else.

Serena is a care-free, spirited, messy, career-driven individual who loves coffee, dark chocolate, and wreaking havoc in her life. Henry is a rule-following, uptight, British gentleman who wants marriage, kids, and the whole happily-ever-after. They couldn’t be more opposite, yet they kept finding things in common even when they didn’t want to. Their chemistry was off the charts and the author did a fantastic job at the insta-love and then changing that into a slow-burn sort’ve deal throughout the book.

The pacing of this book was fantastic and I truly didn’t want to put this book down for a second! The writing was almost lyrical with the descriptive writing and characterization. their love being described as electric many times is exactly how I felt reading this book, I could feel their love through the pages. absolutely beautiful!

my favourite part of this book was how Serena went through the book thinking that she would lose herself if she loved someone else. That there was no part of her that thought she could still hold her individuality while intertwining herself with someone she loves. She’s seen that with her parents and has only ever been reminded of it in her early life. I loved the conversations and discussions between her parents, her (and henry) about it. explaining how you have always have a choice in life, even when it comes to love.

I highly recommend this book for a feel-good, entertaining, but also heartwarming romance with likeable characters, easy banter, STEM references, and lots of chemistry (pun intended). I listened to this on audio while reading the physical book and the narrator was fantastic! She had great inflection in her voice and comedic timing was superb!

Thank you net galley and publisher for this ARC. This book was a fun idea that captured my attention and it’s the first book I’ve read by Sarah Ready. It was a cute story and they characters learned to understand each other. The audio version was really enjoyable to capture even more of the character’s attitudes towards each other in a fun way.

I think this was such a fun idea. Serena and Henry meet, have a sweet lil romantic night & in classic extreme avoidant attachment style - Serena runs away from the feelings. They end up being forced together in a science experiment gone wrong and a lot of growth happens in true romcom fashion.
I think this was cute, I love how we really got to see a couple truly grow to understand each other.
However, I did find the story sort of lackluster. I didn’t feel connected to the characters or story or compelled to continue. The humor to me felt a little forced, like we were trying to make our FMC quirky. It’s totally possible that the audiobook narrator had an impact on this, as well! Delivery is huge.

Yes If: you love a lady in stem, want a 00’s romcom style book, a fun light read
No If: character depth and plot flow is a priority for you.

This was a delightful book. An “opposites attract” with an uptight Britt and a free-spirited Californian.
Serena is only interested in physics, not love and marriage. On the other hand Henry is all for love and marriage. After an “earth shattering” night together Serena finds out Henry is her new boss! Henry wants more, Serena does not.
I got a Freaky Friday feeling from this story, because one stormy night in the lab of the Hadron Collider, something goes terribly wrong. The next day when Serena wakes up, she is in Henrys body. This is where the story gets interesting. How will they switch back?
I really enjoyed this book. It had romance, drama, comedy, and a cat! I absolutely loved Serena’s cat, Captain Puurk, names for James T Kirk. It is well worth a read!
The audio version was really enjoyable and I liked the readers very much, they did a great job.

This was so much fun!!!! It's so completely unlike anything else I've ever read before. One of my favorite guilty pleasure movies is <i>It's a Boy Girl Thing</i> wherein Nell, a bookish intellectual who hates jocks, and Woody, your stereotypical football-playing himbo, swap bodies unexpectedly and have to learn to understand each other better in order to switch back.

<i>Switched</i> doesn't have that Nerd x Jock dynamic, but Serena and Henry still could not be more different. She's a walking tornado, he's so organized that it could be considered neurotic. She's career-driven, he's very family-oriented. She's a commitment-phobe, he's a hopeless romantic. She likes coffee, he's a tea-drinking Brit. And yet, they find each other for one perfect night together. Then their worlds come crashing down when Henry turns out to be Serena's new boss at her lab in Geneva, and they find out just how different they are. Chaos ensues, and they wake up in the other's body. They have to navigate their new realities, take on each others' responsibilities, and figure out how to switch back.

<b>Oh, and they refuse to discuss that one night...</b>

This was my first Sarah Ready book, and I enjoyed it so much!! I loved the dynamic between Serena and Henry, like they really could not have been more different. Some of the things Henry said to her........... I was blushing, and I never blush!!!! THAT'S A REAL MAN!!!!! He was so sweet, and kind, and thoughtful. They just don't make men like him anymore!! And that ending.... WHEW.

The only thing that was missing for me, personally, was an exploration of their sexuality when they were in their new bodies. I feel like that would've been so much fun to dive into.

All in all, I had so much fun reading this, and I will definitely be reading more of Sarah Ready's writing!!

Switched is a stem romance, second chance at a first chance, with a Freaky Friday twist! Serena is an independent career driven heroine, and Henry is such a sweet MMC. Serena is afraid to lose herself in a great love, and working through that fear is thrust upon her when a strange phenomenon causes them to switch bodies. At first the instalove here had me worried, but the time jump that immediately followed helped me to accept their romance more easily. As you can imagine there were some laugh out loud moments along the way. It was especially entertaining when they were interacting with their families and friends!

I didn’t personally relate super well to the characters, and there’s a little more science talk than I needed, but it didn’t hinder my ability to enjoy the story.

🎧𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐨 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜: Kelsey Nevarro Foster really impressed me with her audio portrayal of Serena, Henry with his accent, and then each of them in each other’s bodies. It can’t have been easy, but she made it a breeze to listen to and follow.

I don’t know that this one was for me, but definitely an interesting concept!

A freaky Friday romance — Serena and Henry meet and have an intense night together - he thinks she’s the one — she’s focused on her career in physics— they find out they are working together on a physics project in Geneva and one day at work during a freak accident they switch bodies.

This is a light STEM/syfy romance — full of cute, fun witty banter and likable characters — lots of tension, chemistry and hilarious laugh out loud moments .

I listened to this as an audiobook and enjoyed the narrators and how they brought the characters to life.

It's a fast paced romance with comedy and sci-fi theme. I absolutely love the way it started like a normal romcom but the biggest twist of souls and bodies getting switched was epic!!
I love the way the author has penned down each of the lead character exploring others emotions and memories being in other's body yet sensing its own feelings too and this helped them to understand eachother more and lead to their happy ending.
Definitely going to check more work of this author.

This body swapping book was such a fun and quick read for me! It was quite different from other body swapping books/stories I’ve come across. I’m glad that some things I would have been curious about were actually addressed!

I love that Serena immediately confided in her best friend and knew she would believe her. The whole scene was exactly what would happen with me and my best friend!

It was nice to see how committed Serena and Henry were to their values. The progression of their character development felt realistic instead of them instantly changing their minds on a long held belief.

Anyone who enjoys a little bit of sci-fi in their romance novel will find this book to be a delight!

He is stuck on the idea of her.
A beautiful book, with some twists and turns! Theoretically she is not afraid of love, she just fears losing her identity in a relationship. All it takes is walking in someone else’s shoes to find a new perspective on life and love.

Sarah Ready has become a favourite author of mine and this audiobook is no exception. The narration was easy to listen to and brought the story to life. I love this second book in the series. The two main characters were likeable and I found myself laughing at some of the situations they had to deal with while they became each other. Her story telling takes me on a journey and allows me to escape for a few others . I find myself loving her style of writing and hoping the next book won’t be too long a wait. This is a fun romance and a story about finding oneself and changing the direction of how you view love by walking in someone else’s shoes.

When I first received this book I was happy simply because Sarah Ready is quickly becoming one of my top 5 favorite authors. I then got even more excited when I realized that this was in the same universe as her book Ghosted. I loved Ghosted and it was one of my favorite books of 2023 so I was thrilled to see how that story progressed.

In Switched we follow Serena and Henry. Anyone who read Ghosted will remember Serena as Jillian’s best friend. In Ghosted I liked Serena but we didn’t get too much of her so I was eager to learn more about her. She was a great lead character. She had so many amazing qualities and I especially loved when she would break the fourth wall and talk to the reader.

The plot starts as something we have seen before. Serena and Henry meet, hit it off, and then learn that they will be working together. On top of that complication, Serena has mixed feelings about love and relationships so it seemed there was no future for Henry and her.

One night working together there is a problem with a reactor and when they wake up the next day they switch bodies.

All your standard body-switching humor is here and with the personality of both of these characters, it shines.

I will read any book that Sarah Ready writes. I can not wait for the next one.

I did enjoy listening to the audiobook and would definitely recommend this story to others. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments.

There were some things I didn’t like:
1) The story contains footnotes - Footnotes should only be found in research papers, school assignments , encyclopedias.
2) The story is told mostly in Serena’s point of view and she starts off the story by introducing herself as a physicist.! She then goes on to talk about how impossible things happen all the time - Giving examples and footnotes. I actually wasn’t sure I liked her in the beginning, but I did come around.

Ultimately, the story was a lot of fun. I’ve seen a lot of movies based on the idea but this was the first book I’ve read. This is actually book two in a series but you don’t have to read book one to understand what’s going on. However, I did like the story enough to consider reading the first book.

For the audiobook, I quite enjoyed the narrator that was selected for this book. She did a great job doing back and forth between an English and American accent.

As for the story line, the way which in Ducky (aka Serena) and Henry meet is a great meet cute, leading to quickly learning he is an off limits option (don’t want to spoil why!). And then the switch. Which they then learn the truth about one another. Funny, and heart warming!

This is the 2nd book by Sarah Ready I’ve read and I’m quickly coming to enjoy her style. The 1st was the 1st book in the Ghosted series and I like how she incorporated Jillian and Daniel into this story as well. Helped me understand why this was considered “Ghosted #2”. All in all, a very likable book with likable characters.
