On a Quiet Street was a definite page turner for me. I was offered an audio ARC version from Net Galley and I finished in one day. Super suspenseful, lots of plot twists and the of course there is the final gift of revenge. I liked the way this story was told from different characters points of view. I love it when you get to see what characters actually think of each other and how through plot twists these opinions can change.

Leah and Caine have a troubled marriage. Leah is sure Caine is cheating on her... again. But her whole attention is grabbed in another direction when a young woman, Charlotte shows up on her front door step one night claiming to be her daughter. Lots of secrets, lots of crazy stuff and lots of fun for the reader. Recommended. Thank you to Net Galley for the chance to read and review an advanced copy of this audio book.

I haven't read anything by this author so I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by this story. I thought this was great and it gets 4.5 stars from me!

Would recommend if you love:
-multi-POV
-twists and secrets throughout
-badass FMCs
-some thrilling moments and edge-of-your-seat tension

Told in several parts, the first two main parts are one: from the POV of wife Leah and two: from the POV of "the girl"
I wanted to punch Cain so much during Part One when Leah is the narrator. What an annoying, frustrating man. Leah knows he is cheating on her, and to make her life more complicated, teenage Charlotte comes knocking claiming to believe her biological parent(s) live at her address. This section was wild, Leah is badass and would go to lengths to figure out what is happening in her life.

When we switch to Part Two the POV changes to "the girl" which is Charlotte or one of her friends that are always together (and the ones that showed up at Leah's house).

Later parts switch POV between the two and this is when shit gets CRAZY. You'll have to suspend your disbelief a bit because some of these characters do some questionable stuff. BUT overall I really enjoyed this story and it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

The narrator was great and put enough emotion into this to really pull me in!

This was super entertaining!

I was able to finish this in one day while working.

This was in two perspectives, Angel and Leah. I do not want to post spoilers, but it was interesting hearing from these perspectives. This was one of those books that in my opinion took off right away. I was engrossed instantly. There were definitely twists!

I liked Leah as a character as well as Angel. I will say they were surrounded by characters that sucked. In a good way! They were unlikeable but it worked for the story line.
The narrator was great as well. I will mention I had my audiobook speed at 2x and it was the perfect speed to understand.

All in all, I do recommend this book or audiobook.

What a wild ride this book was. I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen and in some parts it dragged but glad I was able to listen to it. I also read half of the books and listened to the other half.

Leah loses her mother Jean. Leah’s husband Cain is keeping secrets from her and she’s trying to find out what he’s lying about. Jean is full of secrets herself before she passed away, now Leah is forced to face her path, even if she doesn’t want to.

I received this book for free from Netgalley and publisher in return for my honest opinion.

Solid 3.75 Stars.

On a Quiet Street was an addictive thriller that keeps you entertained. I received this as an ALC and I could not stop listening to it. There was so many twists and turns thought that at one point I’m pretty sure I got whiplash. I still found this book to be enjoyable and I liked the narrator. The narrator delivered the story and twists in a way that keeps you engaged and wanting more. On a Quiet Street is out now!

Happy reading!

I was enjoying this until around 80% when this book, like so many others in the genre, went into the abyss of having maniacal characters who make long winded confessionals while they tie everybody up and “explain” some more (while talking like a cartoon villain muahahaha)

PLEASE STOP. Authors you should be better than this. Editors surely you’re as tired of this as readers are???

This was ok, not great. I think it lacked an overall plot development. The first couple chapters was really good and I was hooked on what was happening but then it seemed to veer and get progressively more confusing. The story went into too many directions. I didn’t think the ending connected to the beginning.

I read this very quickly. It had good twists and turns and characters to like and to hate. The ending was great.

It took me a bit to get into this story. The beginning was a bit choppy but the 2nd part where the story is told from Angel’s perspective grabbed my attention and I couldn’t put it down until I found out how this was going to come together..
I was a bit disappointed that there was no legal consequences for those that did wrong. However the twist at the end was a shock.
Overall the story and the narrator did a very good job.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The Book: The story was great. So many twists and turns. There were a lot of characters to keep up with, which made it a little confusing at the end when everything was coming together. However, I was unable to fully guess how it would end so that's a plus! And the shocker at the very end! If you like a psychological thriller I'd give this a try.

The Narrator: I'm not sure on my feelings in regards to the narration. I had a hard time listening to her at the beginning. She did a great job however her voice seemed too innocent for a psychological thriller.

3.5/5 Stars! Thank you, NetGalley, Dreamscape Select, and Bookouture for the audiobook of On a Quiet Street by Carla Kovach narrated by Annette Chown for a free review.

The narrator did a great job narrating this story, however, there were times that I got confused because the names sorta sounded the same and there were LOTS of things going on. I had to rewind some of the audio parts several times to make sure I understood what was going on and who it was. This is my first book by Carla Kovach and I'm wondering if her books (to me) would be best read rather than listened to. I'm glad that this book was broken into parts because it was the different breakdown of the character's POV.

The ending was jaw-dropping and left me shocked. I think this experience would be much better reading rather than listening to all the twists - I'll def be checking out Carla's other novels because the twists and ending are my cup of tea. Overall, 3.5 out of 5 stars and the narrator did a wonderful job!

This book was so good!! The description said if you liked The Housemaid, you’ll love this book and I couldn’t agree more! It’s written in the same dual POV and it’s perfect. I loved the two FMC. I had no idea where this book was going until the very end! It was very fast paced and not a dual moment. The core of the story was also unique! I’ve never read a thriller like this one.

The narrator was fantastic with all of her voices. It was super easy to follow all of the characters.

I absolutely recommend this thriller!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for an audio-arc! It was great!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select, Bookouture, for the free audiobook in exchange for my honest review. This is narrated by Annette Chown who does a good job!

Leah and Cain are married, and Cain has a history of cheating. Leah is convinced he is still cheating with the same women she has caught him with 2x previously (really?). Charlotte, an 18 year old stranger, shows up at their door and claims her biological parents live there. Leah decides to meet the girl, who seems to know more than she lets on.

Everyone has secrets in this story, and there is a lot going on between the characters and their relationships. However, I am not sure that it has the desired effect as intended. First, I did not like any of the characters, all of whom could have been better developed and with less negativity. Why does Leah stay with Cain, a cheater, after catching him multiple times? Leah came across as whiney, Cain was a tosser and Charlotte was the only one I sort of liked. The story was an interesting and complex premise but the execution was a bit clunky.

Really just an ok read that left me frustrated.

Leah suspects her husband, Cain, as having an affair. Is she being paranoid as he accuses or is he a pro at gaslighting?
While wrestling with her increasing suspicion a trio of teenage girls knock at her door late one night, with one claim g to be her child. But she doesn’t have a child, does she?
This book carries suspense throughout the story and the thrills amp up in the latter part of the book. The last few sentences left me with my jaw dropped. A twist I was not expecting.
While I have trouble the lack of consequences for some events, overall it was a thrilling ride.
The narration was well don’t with great pacing, emotion and character voice differentiation.
Thank you to bookouture and NetGalley for the audiobook arc.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book was crazy. It took me a while to figure out what exactly was going on, but that is really reflective of Leah and Angel are experiencing in the book. This was a crazy read with so many twists and turns that I did not anticipate.

This audiobook was a good one. At first I was a bit confused because there was so much going on, but at the end things started to come together. I wish the author would’ve fleshed out some of the details more and minimized some of the twists.

Publication date: January 15th, 2024
Page count: 359
Audio length: 9 hours 24 minutes
Narrator: Annette Chown
Genre: psychological thriller
Setting: English town
Features: domestic thriller, marriage, mother- daughter- 3 generations, family secrets, each half with different POVs

Leah and Cain are married. At the time we meet them, while Cain’s affair is a few years prior, his current behavior is suspicious and Leah wonders what his current secrets are. When a young woman Charlotte appears at her house, Leah thinks that it is related to Cain’s secrets- past or present. Charlotte however claims to be a secret from Leah’s past. While the first half is based upon Leah’s POV, and then turns to Charlotte’s POV.

I had a difficult time connecting with any of the characters, and they all seemed a bit disjointed- which made it difficult to stay engaged in the beginning. Once the narrator turns to Charlotte however, the story becomes much more engaging with its twists and turns.

Thank you to author, publisher, NetGalley for advanced audio copy. This is an honest voluntary review.

On A Quiet Street by Carla Kovach is a story about Lea and her husband Cain. One day, 18-year-old Charlotte
knocks on the front door, and she tells them she was adopted as a baby and she is looking for her biological parents, whom she was told live there. Lea already doesn’t trust her husband and wonders if he has a child he never told her about. Lea agrees to meet Charlotte in secret, and she discovers that Charlotte knows secrets that she has been keeping, as well.

I’m so disappointed to say that I struggled through this book. And…I mean struggled! It was hard to follow and I just could not connect with the characters. Lea…? I wanted to scream at her. Her husband cheated how many times?! I wanted so very much to like this one because the premise was so good. The narrator also did a nice job. It was purely just the story I could not get into. I may very well be an outlier, though.

Thank you to NetGalley and to Dreamscape Select for providing me with an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review. I am grateful for the opportunity.

Not for me unfortunately. Unlikeable characters that’s just didn’t keep my interest. Story quite boring and run of the mill. Predictable ending.

What I Liked:
1. This writing is addictive
2. So many twists

What I Didn't Like:
1. Omg fn Cain ah
2. Jean is terrible
3. The ending

Overall Thoughts:
{{Disclaimer: I write my review as I read}}

-------LEAH'S POV-------
Starting off the book with the main character's husband completely gaslighting her. He's cheated before(twice with the same woman). He comes home late at night smelling like perfume and gets texts all night long. Then he turns around that if she checks his phone that she doesn't trust him. Yeah, dude it's already established that she doesn't trust you. You have to work back up to being trusted, which he is not doing. I'd be checking that phone even more after him saying that. He then turns it even more around that she hasn't been herself because her mom died.

The author does a great job at showing the readers how Leah is able to dismiss so many red flags when it comes to her husband as well as there being someone in her mom's house. She always has a reason other than what it is to come up with.

I keep wondering if they (her husband & Charlotte) is trying to get her money.

Him acting like the victim when he redirects the blame to be about her and changes the whole subject.

When she gets the phone from Cain I was so excited. Oh but then she gets interrupted.

Omg she had a child but she died - but she says she was not living when she was born. But she gave birth to the baby at her home and her mother took the baby away. {shocked}

I do not trust Zara. Now she gets a friend request from an Allison. Hmmmm. I now wonder if Zara is the one that was one in the room when she gave birth. She was probably promised the house and money but was upset when the money was left to Lia.

Okay so it's obvious that Cain is cheating. He just got a text asking if he is coming. One of the signs of someone cheating on you is them picking a fight with you and then taking off.

I'd be DAMNED if I shake hands with my rapists just so my cheating husband can land a successful deal. I'd be out at that moment. She doesn't need him.

-------CHARLOTTE'S POV-------
I didn't understand how fast Charlotte was to accept that she was adopted just because she didn't have a birth certificate. She never brings it up to her parents to ask about it or anything.

At this point it's where Jean tells Charlotte that she has to visit her daily while she's dying and she'll pay her too that it became the plot of The Whale .

Jean is terrible. I swear she's horrible.

Book slows down once we get to Charlotte's pov.

-------ENDING-------
Wow, the ending all become convoluted.

We find out that this is all about Darren and the rape he committed that resulted in Angel being born. I guess they wanted to torment Lia when it came out how her daughter was. It was pretty confusing at this point. It's weird that Angel was more than okay with her parents kidnapping her from Leah and pretending that she was their child - going as far as wearing a fat belly to make out like it was the child they had already lost.

Oh and Cain is cheating with Allison again and meeting up with her. So, throw Cain away please.

In the end all of this pointless because they just let we Leah live and go on her marry way.

The bones are explained in the flower bed is that Jean must have found a dead deer and then buried it and then in her cancer-induced dying brain remembered 18 years ago she buried a dead deer there. Which has to be the dumbest explanation of bones in a yard I've ever heard of. Sigh.

We find out Zara did sleep with Cain at the beginning. So this whole time she kept it rather than telling her the truth. And of course Leah forgives her. Leah forgives everyone.

Oh and Angel killing Jean with a pillow was a surprise I didn't see but then saying she's going to kill her own father - yes please

Final Thoughts:
What happened to this book? In the beginning of it I was so enthralled with the writing I was obsessed with what was going on and then it just dropped. It seemed to get more and more confusing and pointless. Pretty much by the ending it made zero sense and went nowhere. Nothing happened to Leah. We thought she was going to be killed but then they decided to not kill her and she just lives. Odd.
