Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.
I was quite fond of this! I devoured this young adult vampire/monster hunter novel from cover to cover. What more could you want for when you have werewolves, vampires, witches, ghosts, and people with superpowers? This novel will appeal to fans of Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, or The Originals. When the next one is released, I can't wait to read it.
I would like to thank NetGalley for giving me an audio-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I don't really know what I was expecting, but teenage Supernatural would not have even made the top 10 guesses. Following two families, the story unfolds like a season 2 Supernstural episode. There were times I enjoyed that dynamic, and times I didn't.
I could NOT stand Liam for about 60% of the book, but once he starts to open up he becomes the sad little lost soldier Dean was and I found myself liking him.
Audiobook was great, the male narrator is Travis Baldree and he always does a fantastic job. Though I couldn't imagine his voice on a 19 year old. Unless that's just me being upset Jensen Ackles didn't voice Liam himself.
I found this book to be a compelling YA story of teenage sisters who got caught up in the paranormal world of vampires, werewolves, and ghosts. The main characters, Liv and Pepper, meet siblings Liam and Jack who, with their father, hunt down monsters and kill them. The story is easy to follow. The love dynamic between Liv and Liam is a bit simple. For example, Liam is said to hook up with lots of girls in the past, but for some reason Liv is "different" but doesn't go into more detail. After reading more complex YA books recently, this book felt a bit flat, probably because its target audience is on the younger side of YA. I don't hold that against it, just take it for what it is. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel Hunterlore when it comes out.
I listened to the audiobook and found the narrators to be good. Each chapter was narrated from a certain character's perspective, so the female character chapter were read by the female narrator and the male character chapters were read by the male narrator. Both did a fine job modulating their voice to suit the various characters. I say "fine" job, not great because there were times when the narration was distracting from the story. For instance, the female narrator read sentences by pausing just a little too long at every comma, making it feel clipped. That aside, I liked listening to this book.
This book almost has a Supernatural tell to it. But then the girls have their own abilities for the supernatural world. The vamps want the Hunters to help them with who is killing them. And there is a huge cliff hanger in knowing that the Hunters mother/wife is the lycanthrope leader killing the vamps.
This was a great audio book- I listened to it in 2 days. A young adult book version of the TV show supernatural and I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to continue listening. The narrator, did a great job and sounded age appropriate.
I have been provided with a review copy of Hunterland from NetGalley for an impartial review. Awwww this was such a cute story. I was just captivated by everything that was taking place. It was just so easy to get into these characters lives and you just can't help but fall in love with them. I can't wait to see what's next from this author.
Great book, fantastic tail, Vampires and monsters oh my and two conflicting sisters always makes for a great story with interesting drama.
This story was giving TWILIGHT vibes. I enjoyed the development of the characters and the attention to detail in the world-building. The voice actors did a very good job, the emotions of the characters were captured in a believable way. The moment Liam was introduced as a primary character I knew he was going to be the love interest but his character kind of fell flat because of all of the unnecessary sexual remarks, though funny, it wasn't needed.. The only thing that I didn't like was the sexualization of the high school students and the implied approval from the adults. That part made me cringe, that was not needed, especially considering we were reading about kids still in school.
Overall, it was an entertaining listen that kept you engaged. I like the way that the ghost story evolved, could have had more of that. I would read more titles from this author, this was my first experience with her.
I was gifts a free version on this as an audiobook through NetGalley for a fair and honest review.
This was cute! I will say though that it’s giving young Sam and Dean. If you’re a fan of things like Supernatural, but want a YA twist on it this book is very much for you.
Liam is a your typical teenage boy, a little overly sexual, and very hot and cold with our FMC Olivia. Their relationship grows slowly and they end up very cute.
The supernatural aspects of this book are very much so cookie cutter from the universes many people are already familiar with, which isn’t a bad thing as it makes diving into a new world easy and familiar. But if you’re someone that thrives off world building this might not be for you.
Overall it was an entertaining listen that kept me engaged and entertained.
Stars: 4.25 Stars :)
Spice: 2
Pros: Super-Fun, fast-paced, found family, Monster Hunters (lots of paranormal elements), Hunterland training/training team, fun banter, mild spice, and a plot that easily rolls into a series. If I wasn't convinced to continue with the series, the total mean-girl vibes at the end were the clincher. I am all in...I have to see how this plays out.
Cons: A little insta-lovey...but I could give it a pass because it is a YA; the MMC Liam is a bit heavy in the sexual innuendo, and I could do with less of that...he has such a protective type of vibe but then comes off a bit pervy…I am very hopeful that his character experiences some major growth as the series continues...I honestly feel like this could be a five-star read for me, but he lacks the real depth needed to pull off the protector role. He needs to man up.
Favorites: Such a fun plot, A family who slays together and stays together; this gave me major Zombieland vibes--which I loved!!! Beautiful book Cover! An absolute page-turner!!!!
Format: Audio
Recommendation: Absolutely recommend...for me, it was a bit of a guilty pleasure. I love the lightheartedness of the found family vibe, but there is still some weight to the plot, and the setup for the rest of the series was perfect. I'm already looking forward to book two.
Oh this was delightful!
I was introduced to Dana Claire's fantastic writing style in 2023 with an ARC of "War of the Land and have since devoured "War of the Sea" am eagerly anticipating "War of the Mind and have the "Reclaimed Kingdom" on my TBR. When I saw there was an audiobook arc for Hunterland, it was a "Yes please" with no hesitation and I was not disappointed
Now I am not usually a fan of YA, but there are a rare few writers that can take tropes that have been over-used and worn out in TV land and breathe new life into them, reimagine, rebuild and invigorate! Saying this, viewers of Supernatural, Grimm, Buffy etc are very likely to enjoy this book
Dana Claire enhances the YA genre ibto a cross between urban fantasy and Paranormal and I am absolutely here for it
So, to the story.
Audiobook Performance: Arielle DeLisle and Travis Baldree did an exceptional job of narrating this audiobook (but I will likely get the PPB as this book is a keeper)
The book is dual POV, Liv, the main FMC and her sister Pepper live in Falkville Falls where the coach has just been found in an apparent "self-unaliving" but it is in fact, nefarious paranormal shenanigans which in turn brings Agent Hunter and his two kids, Liam and Jac (a family of monster hunters) to come and clean house
The main premise is whether the two families can use their unique skills to get the job done or if their differences will prevent their task succeeding
Atypical paranormal beings add yet another unique twist and kept me gripped to this delicious new type of Urban Fantasy, ready to explore and be devoured with gusto
Certainly a series to follow! Well played Dana Claire, glorious!!
I gratefully received an audiobook from Netgalley and all views and opinions are my own. This review is left voluntaraly and with much enthusiasm!
Hunterland by Dana Claire narrated by Arielle DeLisle and Travis Baldree. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ YA, paranormal romance, monster hunters. Cliffhanger. Multiple POV.
This was well written, the narration was fantastic and for YA fans this is a perfect audiobook/ story. It's full of teenage angst, young love, hormones and family issues. With the bonus of all the paranormal monsters your heart could desire. One thing I really liked was the typical vampires, werewolves and ghosts were not typical. Dana Claire has a different twist on the paranormal bad guys. That was actually great.
So, in reality, I am not the biggest YA fan. This story wasn't my personal cup of tea. But a talented author is what matters more than anything. Dana Claire is a talented author.
I'd like to thank NetGalley and CamCat for this audiobook. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you Netgalley for the advance audiobook copy of Hunterland by Dana Claire in exchange for an honest review. To be honest, I wasn't that into this book when I started it, but I kept listening and was glad I did. I'm a sucker for this genre and loved the sibling dynamics and supernatural theme. This was a fun book and I'm looking forward to more.
This is the first time I've read anything by this author before and I ended up really enjoying this. I liked the premise of a "monster hunting family.," that was a new one for me. I loved Pepper and Jack, they were my favorites. I think Olivia and Liam were supposed to be portrayed as "enemies to lovers" but it really kind of seemed much more like insta-love for me.
It was really interesting finding out who was doing the killings around town - a nice little twist. Also, the mini twist towards the end will be great for the story continuation. I would definitely be up to checking out the next book in the series to see what will happen with the Hunters and Davis'.
Also, the two narrators did a great job. I especially liked how Arielle distinguished between the two sisters for their chapters.
I love the world building in this book, the storyline, character building and all the supernatural creatures gave this book an extra kick.
I listened to the audio book and for me the narrators were very robotic and cringy, making it hard for me to properly get sucked into the story, I would've loved hearing the narration from the author herself.
I feel that if I would have read the physical book I would probably love this book completely.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC to me in return for an honest review. All opinions here are my own.

I really loved this!! This is a YA Vampire/Monster hunter book and I ate up every bit of it. You have Ghosts, witches, vampires, werewolves and People with super powers , what else could you ask for. If you love Supernatural, Vampire Diaries or The originals you will like this book. I can't wait to read the next one when it comes out. Travis Baldree is one of the narrators in the audiobook!
Thank you to NetGalley and CamCat Publishing for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.
This is the first book in the Hunterland Series. If you liked Supernatural, Vampire Diaries and/or Twilight. This book gives major vibes with those themes. As a huge Supernatural fan, I was drawn to this book. It was quirky and a fun listen. A bit predictable for me but didn't take away from the enjoyment of following Olivia and Liam during their adventure.
After a series of "suicides" of nurses at high schools, the Hunters come to the town Falkville Falls to find who or what is causing the deaths. Liam and Olivia see each other across the school parking lot and their awkward interactions. Olivia's father is the sheriff in town so the Hunters keep close while the investigate. The tension and angst between Olivia and Liam happens fast and Liam's comments can be cringe at times. I mean, he is a 19 year old boy with too much confidence, haha. This book has non stop action and the ending left me hanging. Looking forward to when the second book comes out...

This was such a fun book! Full of adventure, monsters, witches, and even a little romance, this was a fantastic paranormal YA fantasy.
Fast paced and action packed, this book definitely gave off Vampire Diaries vibes! The writing stuff was interesting in this one. While the characters were somewhat irritate are also still kind of relatable. And the romance was a super slow burn with enemies/ to lovers. The mystery and concept behind this plot was so much fun. The narration was excellent in this one. Definitely looking forward to the next book since this one ended on a cliffhanger.
