Gigi acts first, thinks later, and that more often than not, gets her in a world of trouble. She's a below average student who spends more time in detention than in class and is one incident away from expulsion. She has a crush on her best friend, Mari and plans on telling her at Spring Fest. When she finds her favorite teacher, Mr. Ford, dead in his classroom, she ropes her friends, Shawn and Mari, along with the rest of "Mystery Club" to investigate what happens. When her older brother Luca's life is threatened, Gigi vows to step away from the investigation, but the murderer has other plans. Overall I really enjoyed this read. Gigi is a mess and that was my favorite aspect of the book. None of the teens have any experience investigating, and it shows. They make legitimate mistakes and Gigi often jumps to the wrong conclusion (which tracks from anyone who is as impulsive as Gigi.) Also Gigi has IBS, so if you are not a fan of poop jokes - then I would recommend avoiding this book. But if you like a sarcastic and impulsive heroine, with strong friendship and familial groups who stumbles her way through solving a mystery then I would recommend checking this one out. Great LGBTQIA+ rep.

This was a super fun, found-family, VERY queer contemporary YA mystery. Justine Pucella Winans has such a talent for writing teenage characters that feel real, true-to-life, modern, and not cringey - which is very difficult to do. There was so much great, casual queer rep in here, too. I immediately related to Gigi; I also had a math teacher in school who I loved but nobody else did because of her sarcastic, almost mean nature. I had so much fun reading this!
A funny, YA murder mystery that sees a queer teen helping to solve their teacher's sudden death at school with the help of their fellow murder club friends. I loved the great #ownvoices IBS rep in this book, the humor and the relatable main character. Looking forward to reading more from this author! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early synthesized audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
