Myles and Lana live in a luxurious home in Wimbledon and have recently met new neighbours Gabe and Holly. When Myles has money issues after a bad investment and is due to lose it all, there is a suggestion of life insurance fraud. No one imagined this was a serious consideration until one night, Lana does not come home.
My first thought after reading this book was why have I never read an Olivia Kiernan novel before? I really enjoyed this one and found the storyline original and compelling. Although the characters were unlikeable, I was hooked by their actions and couldn’t wait to see what they would do next. I really connected to the writing style and will definitely read more of this author’s books if the others are similar. Overall a clever, twisty, complex domestic thriller. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.
This is an amazing read and one that I would highly recommend.
It’s definitely one of my favourite books this year and makes for a great thriller. There’s plenty of twists and turns, it’s well written and it’s deliciously dark.
I loved it and it’s definitely a 5 star read.
This is a complex thriller centred around two couples in a small gated community. Told from the viewpoint of GP Myles who is facing bankruptcy but was worried about telling his wife Lana for fear it would end their marriage. After she finds out a strange conversation with their new neighbours over dinner ends with the suggestion of a faked death to claim on Lana’s life insurance, Myles doesn’t think much of it until he is woken one morning by the police with news of a terrible accident…
I personally didn’t like Myles which definitely affected my enjoyment of this, it was clear how much his past had affected him and made him the man he is but there was just something about him that I just didn’t take to. The actual plot is dark and events soon spiral out of Myle’s control with greed being one of the main motivators. It was intriguing to see how Myles unravelled events and responded to them, there’s quite a lot to his character but equally it’s was fascinating to see what drove other characters too. This is a lot more character driven than plot driven however the concept itself is slick and quite chilling.
