Queen’s Catacombs takes place a few months after where Contest of Queen’s left off, with Jacs trying to navigate her new royal status, her two realms, court politics and her strained relationships. The book is just as much fun as the first, but also does well in delving further into the intricacies and some darker aspects of the realms. The plot definitely opened up further to encapsulate more of the two queendoms and the complex people within them, which was really great and made this second instalment standout.

Whilst I thought this book upped the stakes and the tension, the characters did feel slightly more naive than before. There were some quite obvious things throughout that no one seemed to pick up on, that didn’t really match the very intelligent characters, but that didn’t take away from any of the enjoyment.

As before, Karissa Vacker’s narration was beyond perfect and elevated this story so much more. She puts so much care into each character and crafts their voices perfectly - she has quickly become one of my favourite audiobook narrators.

I can’t wait to see where book 3 goes. Thank you to CamCat Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC. All opinions are my own.

I enjoyed the first in this series - the Contest of Queens which portrayed a world of a two tier society, into which new comer, Jacs, win's the contest in the Queendom of Frea, to ascend to the throne. As this story begins, it becomes clear that Jacs is struggling to fulfil her role as Queen. Jordan's second instalment did not disappointment, it had all the drama and intrigue of the first book, along with some new characters who seem to function only to put a spanner in Jacs efforts to modernise and improve the lot of her subjects.
Within the pages of this sage there are 3 stories fighting for Jacs attention.
Conor has a new roll within her life, but his character is unexpectedly frustrating. I can't wait to read how that turns out and how Jacs brings the whole kingdom together, as I am sure she must. Please Jordan, don't keep me in suspense too long... the future is exciting.
The book/audio is written with young people in mind but it really is suitable for all readers/listeners. This is a must read/listen to, you will not be disappointed. Thank you to Jordan for the story, thank you to CamCat books and NetGalley for the audio ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

This is the second book in an exciting, and adventure filled, fantasy series for older teens and up. I have listened to the audio version of both books, a great way to experience the story. Tragedy and treachery have followed Jacs. Being inventive, caring, stubborn, loyal and most importantly becoming Queen hasn’t meant her problems have disappeared. Instead her problems have multiplied. Be warned solutions may be found but by the end of this book more treachery than ever is revealed. Which has left me looking forward to it the next book, because the villains can’t be allowed to win!!! Thank you to CamCat Publishing and NetGalley for the audio ARC.
