Spoiler free review:
A couple of highschool seniors take part in a series of "Dares". One dare goes too far, and results in a scenario that causes a group of friends to unravel. It reminded me a lot of a 90s cult-classic movie. The ending is what really let me round it up the .5 point.

Thank you to Natasha Preston, @NetGalley & @RandomHouse for the egalley of The Dare. It's on my to-be Purchased list! Follow Marley, her boyfriend Atlas, her friends, and her used-t0-be friend as they finish high school with dares. Not just any dare, but a dare that you cannot refuse unless you want to be destroyed. Marley just wants to finish the last few weeks, graduate, and go to California to her dream school she has worked so hard to get it to. But her friends' dare does not end as anyone would image. She must navigate life in horrid circumstances, losing her friends, and gaining her old friend... but who can she trust? So twisty, so full of stress, so good!

Wow! This had me from the get go, I just love her writing style! I have almost all of her books and I have loved everything she wrote and this was no different. It kept me entertained and I didn’t want to put it down. The twists and turns were so good and that ending??? I did NOT see that coming! And I’ll be honest, a little sad, haha. I won’t say why because I don’t wanna spoil but I guess it needed to happen! Shock factor at the end of the book with something I didn’t see coming always makes me love the book so much more! I highly recommend!!!

I hate giving lower reviews, but this book wasn’t for me. I had a very hard time staying interested the entire time. But just because it wasn’t for me doesn’t mean someone else won’t enjoy it. Thank you!

Many thanks to Net Galley, Random House, and Natasha Preston for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Although it took me a little while to get into The Dare, I’m glad that I stuck with it because it actually turned into a great, well thought out, story. I would have liked a few of the characters to have been a bit more fleshed out but I’m thinking that might have been intentional since the book was aimed at a younger audience. Overall, this was a very enjoyable and suspenseful read. I’m looking forward to more books from Natasha Preston!

This was my first Natasha Preston book, and I think I need to read everything she has ever read, like right now.

Marley is a high school senior, looking forward to her last few weeks of high school with her friends. Part of that is the senior "pranks" which have taken on a new life since the Wilder brothers have taken over. Marley, who has a history with the current Wilder brother is both intrigued and nervous about the impending dares (which are labeled as pranks). When Marley and her friends complete their second dare, something goes awry, leaving everyone stressed and friendships strained.

I was on edge during my entire reading of this. What was going to happen? Who should Marley trust?

I really only guessed how the dare was going to go wrong, but the rest -- I couldn't have guessed in a million years. I HATED the ending. But that is just because I am me, and had a different one in mind. The ending Preston wrote was PERFECT for the book. And honestly, there had been so many hints that I just chose to ignore.

I can't wait for publication date to purchase some copies for my classroom. And the rest of Preston's books as I read them.

This was the most frustrating book ever but I couldn’t put it down! When this happens means I actually really enjoyed it. That ending though, I was really pulling for Rhett! I can’t believe she did that. I was hoping this would throw in friends to enemies to lovers. It did NOT. Poor Rhett but I get it, he did her dirty before and like she kept saying she can’t trust anyone anymore. This was a wild ride though, it stressed me out so much.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of The Dare by Natasha Preston. This book started out well with Marley and her friends enjoying the last few weeks of the senior year of high school. Then comes the problem, the rich kid, who has a long list of secrets on his fellow classmates, forces them into risky dares or he will ruin their lives. Marley and her friends agree to their dare and it ends with someone dead. Their friendship crumbles as they try to figure out how to move on without them going to jail for murder.

I received an arc from netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

When I started this book it reminded me a lot of I Know What You Did Last Summer. While I loved that movie, I didn’t want a replica of it. Thankfully, this book held many twists and turns that made it completely different.

Following Marley and her friends in the last few weeks of senior year, we get to experience the senior pranks. However, they are really dares. When Marley and her friends get a dare, it goes from bad to worse. Can she really trust her friends? Or will her life be over before it even begins.

I love Natasha Preston’s books and this one was no different. I was hooked from beginning to end. This one will stay with me for a while.

I could not get into this book from the beginning, and then the "focus" of the dare and the results of it came in quickly, and I lost interest immediately. Nothing was hooking me to the storyline. The Dare takes us through that but unfortunately, it’s not very interesting. The drama that unfolds isn’t backed with any substance so the ending doesn’t give much to rave about. It just ends and while the slight twist with Marley and Rhett did make me double take I don’t think it’s something that’ll leave the reader thinking about it in the future. It just wasn't for me.

A fantastic YA Thriller! I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, and the characters were perfectly crafted. I love how is all came together in the end. I’ve read quite a few of her other novels but this one is by far my favorite.
It’s a great read !!

Senior prank gone horribly wrong. Popcorn thriller, get you out of a slump book with simple writing that’s geared towards a younger audience. It gives major I Know What You Did Last Summer vibes.
Fast paced, drama filled, suspenseful for sure but ultimately too young.
Would definitely recommend to teens and those that love YA

I dare you to give this book a chance as I know you won’t regret it. Personally I was impressed that this was a YA thriller. I thought it was very suspenseful, fast paced and kept me going. I definitely could have read this in one sitting as I was dying to know how it was going to end. The ending was shocking and very satisfying. I can’t wait to read more books by this author.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this pre release copy in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 rounded up

This gave me I Know What You Did Last Summer vibes! Senior year is all about the pranks that the Wilder brothers pull and the dares they make you do; impossible to say no to because of all the secrets they know about everyone. Rhett Wilder is the brother in charge this year and he has it out for Marley and her friends; Jesse, Lucia, and Atlas. When a dangerous dare results in a murder what will these four friends do to cover it up? Always a fast paced read flipping through pages at rapid speed, so many twists you didn’t see coming. Most things didn’t quite make sense to me for teenagers and the last bit at the ending was kind of a low blow which didn’t sit right with me but overall I always enjoy a Natasha Preston read!

I get excited everytime I see a new Natasha Preston release.

Having read most of her works, I always wonder just how different and how gripping the latest one will be, and if things turn out different from her previous novels.

The Dare was slightly similar to the style of The Haunting which came out last year, and I enjoyed the high school clique vibe of it though I didn't really at attention to the event date style which seemed out of place.

There are not that many characters to begin with so once the crime has been committed and fear sets in, you're only left with a handful of suspects and motives. This time round though I found that the story had plenty of unexpected twists and deviations from what you would think might happen.

I was especially happy that this book didn't end with her classic cliffhanger ending but left it pretty clear and obvious with a "happily ever after" resolution - or as HEA as you can get in a thriller novel 😁.

What I would love to see in future books is a continuation of characters from previous stories getting into more crazy situations, like Scream and How To Get Away With Murder. Only because I always find myself so attached to her characters (those who manage to live) and wonder what happens to them in the after.

Thanks to NetGalley, Random House Children's for the ARC.

Natasha Preston is one of my favorite authors and she did not disappoint with this book. It was so good! I loved the characters and the storyline. Great wise twist at the end! Definitely recommend this book!

Natasha Preston has confused me and left me feeling like the main plot line. She did a great job of leaving readers thinking that they are one step ahead of her and know what's coming next without actually letting them know. I felt whiplashed and confused as I thought I knew who was behind everything, but low and behold, this book's readers truly are in the back seat of the car. Do yourself a favor and spend a weekend at home, blasting through this fun, quick-paced story.

This is the first book that I have read by this Author. The writing seems a bit juvenile but overall the book kept my attention. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the story in general but I wouldn’t hesitate to try some of her other books. I think this just wasn’t the one for me.
