I binged listened to Lady of Disguise in one day! This is my first book by Melanie Dickerson, and it definitely won't be my last! I thought this story was such a cute and unique retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk. I was hooked from the beginning and loved Louisa's journey with Sir Charles and the cast of characters they meet along the way.

I do wish her undercover journey as a boy had lasted longer with some more suspense, but it was still enjoyable while it lasted!

The narrator did a wonderful job with the character voices and adding dimension to the story.

Lady of Disguise by @melaniedickerson123
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A sweet, clean romance that is a modern retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk. I’ve only read one other book by this author but I loved it so thought I’d give this one a chance. It was the same narrator, which I was excited about because she sounds like one of the actors in Downton Abbey. 🙌🏼🤩
My oldest devours Dickerson’s books and was mad that I got to read this one before she did. 😆

It is set for release on 2/13.

Thank you @melaniedickerson123, @netgalley, and @thomasnelson for an ARC ebook and audiobook of Lady of Disguise! #netgalley #goodreads #bookstagram #literarypearlsof24 #ladyofdisguise #cleanreads

Louisa has had a hard life. Her Uncle wants to marry her and her sister off to the highest bidders. She will do anything to keep her sister safe, including disguising herself as a boy and going on a quest to look for the Viking treasure which is said to be guarded by a giant. On the way, she meets up with Sir Charles of Derricott who decided he needs to travel with her to keep her safe.
This is a loose retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk. It is a clean, magic free, young adult Christian fiction story. As always, Melanie Dickerson has woven a great tale. It is solidly done. The audio book narrator does a great job of bringing the character alive.
I would recommend this book to the young and old alike who love fairytales. If you don’t care for the fairytale type stories this would not be the story for you.

In 1388 England, Louisa dreams of finding the legendary "Giant's Treasure" to escape her oppressive uncle's plans. She disguises herself as a boy and embarks on a perilous journey to the Scottish mountaintop where the treasure is said to be hidden. She soon meets a noble knight, Sir Charles, and together they face challenges of travel. Will the treasure be the key to their independence or can love conquer the obstacles they encounter on their quest?

I have not read the previous books in this series, but I have read other books by this author. I enjoy how she is able to weave elements of well-known fairy tales into more realistic stories. This book has elements of Jack and the Beanstalk woven into the story.

Louisa was an interesting, if naive character. I was actually pleased that her disguise as a boy did not work very well and it was spotted quickly by more than one person. This adds a sense of peril to her situation. Sir Charles was the idealized knight: noble, honorable, and loyal. He didn’t seem to have a flaw.

Overall, this was an easy audiobook to listen to. The narrator brought each person to life. I think readers who enjoy young adult romance will enjoy this one.

A sweet and innocent tale of a chivalrous knight, a disguised lady, and the unique cast of characters they encounter on their journey. Will they find the treasure they seek? Is there a giant on the mountain? It is filled with contrasts: kindness vs. abuse and inner character vs. outside appearance. If you are someone who loves chivalry, fairytales, or happy endings, this might be the book to check out!

Huge Thank You to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson, and Zondervan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook!

I Loved this audiobook so much! Not just because of the over-the-top job the narrator did, but the captivating words the author weaved. Full of adventure, humor, romance, and plot twists, this retelling of Jack and the bean stock will keep you hooked until the very end! This book is the epitome of fun fairy tales with life's lessons. I can't say enough about it.

I adore fairy tale retellings and this is my first Jack and the Beanstalk reimagining. I’d say it’s on the lighter side at the start but an imaginative twist towards the end brought some wonderfully believable parallels to this age old tale. Very clever, Ms. Dickerson, very clever indeed. 🙂

Louisa makes the perfect damsel in distress with Charles as her knight in shining armour. She’s a spunky, imaginative heroine who is not quite ready to be let loose in the real world. Luckily Charles takes his knightly duties of guarding and protecting seriously. Friendship develops into more but, of course, there’s a quest to conquer and a villain to defeat before the hope of a happily ever after can be obtained!

Love the journey — the people they meet along the way. In true fairy tale fashion, Louisa and Charles provide assistance and encouragement and I appreciated the way the author wove the importance of prayer throughout the story.

I listened to the audio edition narrated by Jude Mason who did a marvellous job creating a fairy tale ambiance in her performance. Thoroughly enjoyed my listen.

My thanks to Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Audio and Negalley for providing me with an audio edition of Lady of Disguise.

Another Amazing Reimagining Of A Favorite Fairy Tale!

I should not be surprised when I’m finished with another Dericott Book that I’m ready for more! Run to get your hands on this book!

Louisa was delightful and I loved her portrayal as a strong woman with a heart for God. Charles was honorable and such a kind heart. I felt all the characters were very interesting. Of course you wouldn’t have a fairytale without a villain!

Audiobook: Narrated by Jude Mason
The Narrator is amazing. The different accents are spot on and are not distracting. She gives another dimension to the book. I was so drawn in I got my kitchen clean before I knew it!!!

I can’t wait for her next book!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Lady of Disguise by Melanie Dickerson is the next Dericot tale, stories about knights and ladies in King Richard’s court. Sir Charles meets Louisa on the road. She is disguised as a boy and headed to find a treasure that is supposedly guarded by a giant. Along the way, they meet new friends and start to fall in love. But how can they make things work when her uncle is determined to make her marry a man of his choice. Thanks NetGalley for the chance to read and listen to this book.
