Wow. What a gorgeous way to bring the four-book Lovelight series to a close (at least, for now) and as much as I adore the entire series, I think this one probably takes the top spot for my favorite. And Charlie is easily one of my favorite people we’ve met throughout our Lovelight journey. This type of opposites-attract storyline would typically have the genders reversed and I love that suit-wearing, businessman Charlie falls for tattooed, pin-up Nova girl. As always, Becs’ writing and character development is unmatched. Thank you for bringing us a community we could all root for and fall in love with.
Charlie and Nova are quite literally a match made in heaven and I love how Borison infused the title with their relationship. I’m going to miss Lovelight Farms and Inglewild.
Another lovely, wonderful addition to the Lovelight Farms series! I loved Charlie and Nova! Their chemistry was off the charts, the flirting was so cute, and Charlie's vulnerabilities felt so real and made my heart clench -- I just wanted to give him a hug! I'm sad that this is the end of the series! I loved spending time in Inglewild with everyone and I can still see so much potential for more books (Alex Alvarez, the book store owner who loves his grandma and reads regency romances, I'm looking at you!).
I finished Business Casual a little over a week ago and I have thought about it every single day since. After just a few pages, I knew it would end up being an all-time favorite and I can confidently say that it’s one of the best friends to lovers romances I have ever read. BK Borison really poured all of her heart and soul into this final installment of the Lovelight Farms series and it resulted in such a beautiful story.
The black cat x golden retriever dynamic between Charlie and Nova was utter perfection. Their banter put a permanent smile on my face and the sexual tension was out of this world. Their relationship developed so organically and it made me all sorts of emotional watching them find their safe space in one another. Both characters were so relatable and I’m blown away by BK Borison’s ability to make you feel everything her characters are feeling so deeply. I saw so much of myself in Charlie - the craving for love and attention, masking insecurities with humor, always putting on a smile even when you want to do anything but. I couldn’t stop the tears from falling as he laid it all out in the open and now Charlie has own little piece of my heart.
Becketts story was my favorite of the series, so I was looking forward to learning more about his sister, and boy did this book not disappoint. I loved going back to Lovelight almost as much as I loved B.K. Borison noting in the acknowledgements that the door isn't firmly shut to this world. The cozy small town vibes with real characters going through relatable problems made this final season a huge win for me. I will definitely be recommending it to my customers.
I’ve been desperate to read Business Casual after finishing books 1-3 in the Lovelight Series and it was worth every second of the wait! This book is both a beautiful stand-alone novel and a fitting conclusion to our time in Inglewild. B.K. Borison is the master at creating books that wrap you up in a hug, that tuck you into a cozy blanket, and that leave you with that warm, bursting feeling in your heart!
First, the banter. THE BANTER. The push and pull between Nova and Charlie is impeccable! This book had me laughing out loud and giggling to myself time and time again as these two jockeyed for control.
Next, the tension. This book has its share of satisfying spicy scenes but also has the absolute best “small touches”— a hand on the back here, a skimming of the knuckles there— that make you want to kick your feet.
Third, the authenticity. These characters, Nova and Charlie, and all our friends at Lovelight (Luka and Stella, Beckett and Evie, Caleb and Layla) are so refreshingly REAL. Their dialogue sounds just like an actual group of friends. Their insecurities are so gosh darn relatable. Their desires are universal. There’s such a sense that if this crew can all find a happily-ever-after, there’s hope for all of us.
Can’t recommend this book highly enough— will absolutely be a top read of 2024 for me, and I’ll undoubtedly read it again before the year is up!
I absolutely loved this book! I read it in 3 days which has not happened to me in a. long time. I loved Charlie and Nova’s story. The writing style had me sucked into the story by the first 10 chapters. I was worried the entire time for a 3rd act breakup. I just kept thinking something had has to happen between these two right? If you liked the movie friends with benefits you’ll like this!!
B. K. Borison is an auto read for me!! Her stories take me to place of coziness, heart, and vibes. Charlie and Nova were characters I met in other books and hoped they would have their own story.
The flirting and tension this book opens with is TOP NOTCH!!! My jaw was on the floor and I was kicking my feet because I was so happy. I literally took breaks reading because I wanted to savor it.
I will absolutely be recommending this book to friends and patrons. Can’t wait to see what is next for this author.
BUSINESS CASUAL is B.K. Borison's best yet, which makes it so difficult to say goodbye to Lovelight and Inglewild. Nova and Charlie are two fully realized, endearing and wonderful characters that made this book feel like so much more than a romance. Charlie's journey in particular was very special to me, and it was lovely to finally get to be in his head after three books of seeing him on the sidelines and Nova's after seeing her through Beckett's perspective in IN THE WEEDS. The romance is incredibly fun and emotional and sexy - I was cheering for them from the first page. These are two characters who are perfect for each other.
that’s it, nova and charlie are my favorite 🥺🥺🥺 they were the perfect addition and (unfortunately) ending to the lovelight series. as always, bk does such a wonderful job at pulling you in, making sure you relate in someway and that you feel warm, lovey, connected and a sense of community. couldn’t love this community and these characters more.
thank you netgalley for the ARC!

💭 Thoughts:
BECS, you truly write masterpieces! 🥹 Going back to Inglewild one last time was such a treat, and I was emotional finishing this book because I did not want it to end! 😭 Nova is spunky and headstrong while Charlie is the life of the party yet vulnerable. They have great banter, and even better chemistry. 🌶️ I loved watching their love story unfold while running into cameos of all the previous characters: Luca, Stella, Evie, Beckett, Caleb, and Layla. I can’t get enough of this small town and its meddling inhabitants!!! Sign me up for the phone tree 📱 and a series re-read every year, because I will never be over it!!!!
Thank you to Berkeley and NetGalley for this advance reader copy. All opinions are my own.
I found the Lovelight Farms series last year and fell so in love with these books and made Business Casual one of my most anticipated reads of 2024. I was so happy to get this early copy and it did not disappoint at all.
Having already known Nova and Charlie from previous books, I was interested how their characters would be fleshed out more but I really loved their development. Their characters being focused on the idea of maintaining perfection and owing family was so interesting to read and led to some wonderful and heartwarming moments. I also loved seeing Nova and Charlie work out those feelings in their relationship.
Having this be the final book in a series of interconnected stories, I was interested in seeing the other characters from earlier books but I was worried that Nova and Charlie would feel like background characters in their own book, but that was not the case. While the old cast of characters are in the book quite a bit, they do not take the focus off of Nova and Charlie and they let them have their own story.
B.K. Borison has a fan in me and I am looking forward to her next book.
Business Casual is an interconnected, smalltown romantic comedy and the fourth installment of the Lovelight series; it could be read as a standalone, but I think that it makes more sense if you’ve already read the first three books in the series. It features the friends to lovers, friends with benefits, and forced proximity tropes. I would recommend Business Casual to fans of books like Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez, Hopeless by Elsie Silver, Only and Forever by Chloe Liese, The Catch by Amy Lea, Wildfire by Hannah Grace, and Need Me by Tessa Bailey. Themes and topics present include family, self worth and self doubt, fear of failure, perfectionism, change versus tradition, migraine representation, appearance versus reality, mental health, loneliness and isolation, and love and heartbreak.
Having already read books one through three in this series, I felt like I could dive right into this book without a lot of preambles as I was already familiar with the town of Inglewild and all the Lovelight characters. Nova and Charlie’s chemistry was very steamy, and I enjoyed the comedic elements that Borison included in this book (including a meddling phone tree as well as Nova and Charlie’s hilarious antics while trying to hide their relationship). I thought that Nova was very cool and artsy (I think that she might be my favourite character in the Lovelight series), and I enjoyed reading about her trendy tattoo studio filled with plants. Nova talks a lot about the symbolism behind certain flowers that she uses in tattoos; I thought that this was really interesting and not something that I’ve seen in other romance novels. Lastly, I felt like the ending and epilogue in Business Casual wrapped up the Lovelight series nicely.
The only downside I can think of is that Nova and Charlie’s romance had a lot of “will they, won’t they” vibes before they finally got together. Additionally, Nova and Charlie seemed like total opposites and (I’m not sure if their ages are ever shared but) there seemed to be a significant age gap between them (which isn’t my favourite trope); Nova seemed younger in that she’s trendy and just starting her tattoo business while Charlie seemed older in that he’s a suit-wearing, already well-established financial investor.
Overall, I really enjoyed Nova and Charlie’s story and highly recommend the Lovelight series to fellow smalltown romance readers!
I don't know how BK does it, but somehow every single book in this series is better than the last. Which is truly wild because Lovelight Farms was a 5/5 all the way.
Business Casual was the *perfect* ending to this Lovelight Farms series. It was so, so sweet. Charlie and Nova had my heart from page 1. I've loved Charlie since we met him in Lovelight Farms, but giving the man his own book just cemented him as one of the sweetest, most adorable book boyfriends to ever be written. He somehow exceeded all expectations I had for him and is the textbook definition of a golden retriever. He is the standard.
And Nova? She's like a little black cat - sharp claws, but cuddly when she lets her guard down. I adored her.
Aside from the utter perfection that was every single cameo by the previous couples - can I just say: OMG THE BANTER. It. was. Immaculate. *chef's kiss.* I was giggling the entire time I was reading this book. These two were just ... perfect. This whole book was just ... perfect. <3 I need more. I really, really do.
Thank you Net Galley and Berkley for making my entire YEAR with this ARC. Ily.
The Lovelight Series is one of my absolute favorite series and I honestly could not wait to read Business Casual. I was so excited when I was approved for the ARC and couldn’t wait to dive back into these characters and Inglewild.
I fell in love with Charlie and Nova from page one. Their witty banter had me laughing out loud, and I laughed out loud a lot throughout the whole book. And the chemistry…yes please! So good! Not only did this give me all of the feels and pull at my heartstrings but it was just so cozy and sweet too. I couldn’t put it down. I loved being back in this world of characters, and I think Charlie and Nova are my new favorite Lovelight couple. I honestly can’t put into words how much I loved this book. This is my favorite book in the series.
Thanks NetGalley and Berkeley Publishers for this arc!
this book is for the girlies who put pressure on themselves to be perfect without realising they already are perfect. it is for the girlies who crave physical touch and words of affirmations. it is for the insecure girlies who doubt they are ever good enough. And it is for the girlies who feel the need to hide themselves and are scared of being too much, too loud, too annoying. YOU ARE ENOUGH!
this book was an instant 5 star read for me. From the first page i felt connected to this book and was dreading finishing it. The characters, the story, the amount of depth this book has while also being super funny and sweet was just amazing. I also loved the appearances of all the lovelight characters. This book felt like coming home, I adored every second of it.
The dynamic between Charlie and Nova was a breath of fresh air, I adore the black cat x golden retriever trope and this book is the blueprint for it. It reminded me why I love this trope so much, from the chemistry to their banter to the sheer depth of these characters. Utter perfection. I saw myself so much in many different aspects of Charlie's character and all I wanted to do was give this man a big hug.
Charlie is the insecure, but confident on the outside and the notorious people pleaser and Nova, is the closed off, independent girl boss. Their relationship was so raw and honest, and the communication was healthy which I loved to see!!! It developed in such a natural and genuine way I was constantly giggling and kicking my feet! I loved that this one was more steamy and I ate up every single smutty part. The dirty talk was honestly next level. They both supported each other and were so purely themselves, it was wonderful.
The tattoo scene had me in tears for days, just thinking about it makes me emotional!
The little inside jokes and banter was everything to me, it really solidified them as being soulmates.
One of my top romances of this year and it is only January, thank you BK Borison for this masterpiece!!
And thank you Berkley for the early copy!!
Incredible. Borison’s best installation in the entire series yet. I loved the dynamic between Nova and Charlie - how they’re polar opposites in nature but have similar values - which is such a realistic relationship dynamic. It made all of their interactions believable and strike me straight in the heart.
I especially loved Charlie’s found family trope and how he found a safe and accepting tribe in Inglewild.
There was a moment where Layla was so compassionate about Charlie’s adhd and asked him if she needed to repeat herself (kindly) and, as someone with adhd who always felt not enough, it made me tear up.
Nova and Charlie’s love story was equal parts beautiful, real, and oh so sexy. I loved every part of it and I’m so glad I got to be a part of one more Inglewild love story.
I also especially loved the bits of the book where Nova and Beckett connected as close siblings. They obviously love each other so much and I’ve always enjoyed a good sibling trope. Honestly, all of Borison’s side characters and side relationships truly make her storytelling whole.
Also, props to Borison’s writing for always being inclusive, diverse, and representative. I can’t wait for more from her.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! BK Borison won my heart in 2022 and I have no shame admitting I squealed when I saw I was accepted for an e-arc of this book. And boy did it live up to all of my hopes and expectations.
Nova is your classic black cat, younger sister kind of character. She thinks that for her to succeed she needs to do it all on her own. In this part of the series, we catch up with her when she is about to open her tattoo studio (which by the way, sounds amazing) and she is struggling to make everything work. Enter Charlie.
Charlie is also the younger sibling of a previous featured couple (Stella, from book one) and he is the fun loving, goofy charmer that everyone knows will be there for a good time, but they never expect a long time. Charlie has gotten through having an abusive father by making himself the life of the party, but at his heart is a deep loneliness. I thought his POV was so well done as he grapples with his ADHD and trying to find his place.
The two enter into a no-strings-attached arrangement that just keeps growing. And we all know how that goes. I will always recommend this series, it is perhaps one of the coziest romances out there, and I can't wait to see what BK Borison does next.
Okay miss Borison... what magic are you drinking to be able to pull off another Inglewild gem so perfectly?!
I'm basically an honorary Inglewild resident. That might make me slightly biased here, but I honestly tried to set all of my bias aside and still came away with a 5 star rating, so. 🤷🏼♀️
Business casual had alllllll the comfort of being back in Inglewild, with plenty of our favorite crew and meddling townspeople. The spice was ~ramped up~ in this one, but it didn't take away from the vulnerability and tenderness that we love in all of Bec's books! I really didn't know how Charlie boy was going to rise to the rankings of the rest of the Lovelight boys, but boy 👏🏼 did 👏🏼 he.
It was soft and spicy and gentle and brave and just plain perfect.
Some things to love:
+ a giant puppy dog MC
+ small town shenanigans
+ "we don't want relationships"
+ a tattooed girlie
+ self-discovery
+ "get it out of our systems"
+ stella, luka, beckett, evie, Iayla, caleb
+ a bubble wrapped heart
+ brother's best friend 🤫
+ a "give me attention" boy
+ a lovely series wrap-up
{Thank you to bkborison and NetGalley for this advanced readers copy}
Nova and Charlie are keeping things casual. Business casual. But when have things ever just stayed casual. With these two searching for their place and fighting for themselves, they find each other and they find love. This book is THE book. This couple is THE couple. Book of the year. I’m so deeply moved by these characters.
