I think this is Emily Henry's best novel yet! I loved it, I was immediately invested with the characters, the plot, even the town & its quirky community - I binge read the entire book in 1 day. Love her ability to write believable likable characters & good banter, the plot developed at a good pace & she mastered the balance between humour, angst & spice! 5 Stars!

This was not my favourite Emily Henry, but I did like the setting and the chemistry between them both, as well as the premise of how they started being roommates.

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.

Emily Henry NEVER fails me and that is why she continues to be my favourite author. I was struggling to see how she could beat the absolute fullness of Happy Place but yet she did. All her books resonate with me for so many different reasons but this one really hit home. Miles' and Daphne's belief that they're not good enough for anyone because of things that were out of their control really resonated with me. I loved every second and again with most of Henry's books, I devoured this in one sitting.

She continues to write about feelings that everyone has probably experienced at least once in their lifetime.

The chemistry between Miles and Daphne softened my ice queen heart and I just loved them so much.

She never ever fails me and this book was magnificent.

Another utterly joyful romantic masterpiece! Fabulously characters, in the perfectly relatable Daphne and the lovely Miles, and an intriguing and creative plot. I’m already impatiently waiting for the next Emily Henry book, even before this one’s published!

Absolutely devoured this, my favourite Emily Henry book to date! Milas Nowak is the perfect book boyfriend, and Daphne's trajectory is endearing and inspiring. I want to exist in the realm of Waning Bay as it has the best cosy community vibes. I am so excited to see this book blow up once it's released, as I'm so sure it will.

Emily Henry captures her romantic leads in a perfectly imperfect light every time!
When Peter ditches Daphne she finds herself temporarily rooming with her ex's new fiancees ex...complex to begin with and with an almost inevitable outcome the story takes you along with Daphne as she steels herself to face the world without Peter but now with Miles in her corner, helping her overcome both her sadness and her jealousy.
I loved the laid back aspect of Miles and the way Daphne encourages him to reveal more of himself and his pain at his own breakup through friendship and shared experience.
Their flat sounds like a great place to hang out and I was actually angry when Peter shows up at the door- if I had been there partaking in tequila I would probably have punched him!

There is nothing not to love a book that makes you want to physically defend the characters you are rooting for!

Giddy…. This story made me giddy

I don’t think Emily Henry can actually fail as she has done it again with another absolute gem of a story.

I was hooked from the first chapter and did not want to put this down. I mean who wouldn’t be intrigued by the premise. Daphne who is fresh out of a breakup has no choice but to move out of her home that she shared with her ex fiance and move in with his new fiancés ex boyfriend.

This story is so much more than just healing from heartbreak but it’s also about self discovery. It’s about finding yourself and learning to love yourself whilst rewriting your own narrative.

I absolutely believe that Daphne would not have achieved the growth that she did without the help of the side characters and of course the MMC Miles. They were integral to her growth and taught her that you do not have to do anything alone and that in itself is a story everyone should abide by.

I’m so excited for people to read and enjoy this as much as I did.

Funny Story is a five star read that you can easily, and happily, fall in love with.
Great plot, lovely characters, easy to devour in one sitting. An ideal holiday read.

I absolutely loved this. I got into it instantly and although it was slightly predictable that doesn’t distract from its charm - I love Emily’s books and this was no different.

Well, I'm very pleased to say Emily Henry's upcoming book is just as amazing as her ones up till now.

We begin the story with the concept that has given this one its title: a funny story, wherein Daphne and Peter got together. Except, that's not the main story anymore after all. Not after Peter broke up with her and immediately got engaged to the best friend he'd always insisted he didn't see that way.

Daphne, confronted with the fact that the house and all the friends she'd made in Waning Bay, all belonged to Peter, has no idea where to go from here. She stuck living in the spare bedroom at Miles' house, him being the boyfriend who got dumped at the same time as Petra and Peter got together. By all accounts (these being Peter's), Miles seems to be a no account stoner without direction in his life.

But all doesn't seem to be as clear as Peter made it. Daphne goes from having a plan to leave for a place closer to her mum and a job she might like nearly as much as the one she currently has, to considering that Waning Bay, and Miles, may not be the worst place she could end up.

This book has friends to lovers and fake dating tropes throughout, but honestly the thing that made it worth it for me was the comeuppance Peter received at the end.

I just want to give this book a big hug. My heart just exploded.

If Emily Henry had a theme for every book, the theme for this one is definitely “Belonging”

By definition, anything that Emily Henry writes is better than average. So yes, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It was funny, emotional, inspiring, relatable and so very lovely. This book has very interesting themes, narcissism being one of them, and I admire how respectfully Henry writes about this. I am sure many people will feel seen when reading this.
An Emily Henry book is the kind of book you read without ever checking how far along in the book you are, this is definitely about the journey, not the destination.
Having said all of this, the last 10% were not entirely on the same level as the rest of the book. It was a bit sappy and too neat. And really, why am I even mentioning this? Funny Story is a lovely novel, very romantic and, again, very relatable. Loved it!

I loved this book! Miles was so fun and down to earth. It had the classic Emily Henry charm but more of rom com feel. Much more fun than her other novels which I think lean a bit more romance/woman’s fiction. I adored it! Loved the concept of them being eachothers ex’s ex partners. Hilarious and heart warming.

First off, I read an eARC of the book provided by the publishers through NetGalley, because I am certain plot inconsistencies/continuity errors will have been addressed by the time the book goes to print (not to mention grammar, spelling, etc.).

I thought Happy Place was weak, I was wrong. I am utterly sorry, Ms Henry, but this one did not live up to the hype your name on a book cover inspires.

Daphne was dumped by her fiancé Peter. Miles was dumped by his girlfriend Petra. Petra is Peter's BFF. Peter decides, at his bachelor party that Petra is the woman for him, not Daphne. Daphne now needs to move out. She can have a room in Miles's flat, since Petra moved out of Miles's flat to move in with Peter. When the wedding invitation for Petra and Peter's wedding arrives, Daphne blurts out that Miles and her are an item. Let the fake dating games begin. But, of course, both MCs come with a wagon-load of baggage each that makes making friends, dating, and trusting very difficult.

The characters were supposed to be over 30 years old, but neither MC felt like they matured past their mid-twenties. Neither seemed to be fully fleshed out to me, either. I was turning the pages to find the special something that I liked about Henry's earlier books, but just couldn't find it.

(By the way, both P-named characters have a last name starting with Co - why?)

I really loved this book, everything about it seemed done so well and there were so many layers to the characters which I loved. Nothing was fully as you were expecting but I think that’s something Emily Henry does really well in her writing.

The tension and connection between the characters was well written right from the get go and I loved the way it worked out for them.

I read this in one sitting as I just didn’t want to put the book down! A solid 4.5 stars from me.

Emily Henry never fails to disappoint! I feel like this story was slightly different from her usual, but still a great read. I loved both Daphne and Miles and felt their characters were really well developed.

I got approved for an arc on NetGalley and I’m so thankful that I did. I binged this book in one sitting, I simply could not stop reading. Emily Henry has a way of writing books that makes you so invested in the story that you forget the characters aren’t people you know.

Funny Story follows Daphne and Miles, the two now living together after their exes break up with them and get together! I fell in love with both characters. Their lives and their vulnerabilities felt so real to me, like these were two people I could imagine walking off the page. The narrative follows Daphne’s POV and she was so honest and raw that it made me tear up. Life is not perfect, but you can find your own perfect in all of its moments, and that’s exactly what Funny Story is all about.

You must read this book if you’re after something, romantic, honest, heartbreaking and also funny! Yes this book is a romance but it’s also about friendships, and finding yourself outside of a relationship. It’s about realising your life isn’t what you pictured it would be and being okay with that. It’s about knowing that that it’s okay to open up to people, and good people and good friends and good relationships are always out there for you. It’s truly a remarkable read and something I will think back to for a long time.

I think Funny Story is now my favourite of hers, and it takes a lot to rival Beach Read. I fell in love with the characters and with their story, and I simply will not stop thinking about this book. 5/5 stars seems to not do it justice, but that’s the highest rating I can give it! I need another Emily Henry book yesterday.

I LOVED this! The easiest 5 stars I have ever given. I’m so picky with romance books and rarely read them. I read this in one sitting, giddy, kicking my legs crying happy tears. An absolute gem

This was pretty much everything I wanted it to be at the time of reading and the first book in a while to make me laugh out loud. I was looking for a good time, something I could fly through with good pacing and just enjoy something that made me feel without having to overly think it did all those things.

Miles and Daphne are both mature and realistic characters, which is so refreshing. Both have their flaws but they are well aware of them and deal with their issues upfront and in a way that feels inherently human and mature. Their trauma has had an effect on them both but they manage to navigate it without being blissfully unaware or whiny about it and I loved that about their characters.

I also love the exploration of self love as I’m finding is seemingly a theme to Henry’s books.
Henry sets out to have her characters discover what’s right for them, to move away from people pleasing and to work on past trauma to make decisions that positively effect their own happiness and this isn’t limited to the main characters. Her books, Funny story included, bring a motivating and uplifting feel to her writing and give a sense of fulfilment for the characters and their arc.

I mentioned this book made me laugh out loud and I’m not kidding, I really did laugh at the sarcasm and hilarious one liners in this book, extremely well done and despite the heavier feeling towards the end of the book as revaluations are made, it kept things very much in the rom com world.

Tropes included all my favourites, forced proximity, found family and opposites attract, a huge bookish turn on for me and to top it off it’s kinda spicy too!

An all round win for me and I’m extremely grateful to have received an advanced copy.
