This was book #6 in the Dark Olympus series, featuring Eurydice, Orpheus, and Charon. After Orpheus broke Eurydice's heart way back in the series, we return to her once again. Eurydice and Charon are super tight now, and Orpheus comes back to the mix groveling. This really advances the political plot of the series with a steamy romance between the three main characters (guaranteed to make you blush). I fount this a solid addition to the series! I love listening to these, the narration is great!

Katee did it again! Every book in this series has delivered on spice while also expanding upon the very unique world Katee has built. I can't wait for the next one!

Midnight Ruin by Katee Robert definitely brings some exciting developments to the Dark Olympus series, but I found myself with mixed feelings after finishing it. The plot definitely takes some huge steps forward in terms of world-building and character arcs, but I couldn’t help but feel like all that development was packed into the last quarter of the book, which led to some pacing issues. It felt like we were building and building, only for things to suddenly rush toward the end. It didn’t ruin the book, but it definitely kept me from being fully immersed for the whole ride.

The characters are where the book shines the most, in my opinion. I loved Eurydice—her character archetype is one I typically gravitate toward, and she was both strong and vulnerable in all the right ways. Charon was a solid love interest, and I appreciated his role in the Lower City. He was well-balanced, and his connection with Eurydice was believable. But then there’s Orpheus... I wasn’t really sold on him, especially in terms of his chemistry with Charon. Sure, he has history with Eurydice, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was more of a third wheel in this dynamic. If not for the past between him and Eurydice, I’m not sure what he would’ve contributed to their romance.

Speaking of the romance, it’s clear that there was a lot of heat between Eurydice and Charon, but the book kind of overloaded us with smut rather than giving us enough time to really see the relationship develop emotionally. I was hoping for more intimate conversations and character growth to make the connection feel solid when life-altering decisions were on the line. Instead, we got a lot of sizzling moments, which, while fun, didn’t quite satisfy my desire for deeper relationship-building.

On the plus side, I did enjoy seeing the return of Persephone and Hades, as well as the cameos of characters from previous books. I’m especially looking forward to Callisto’s book—she really knows how to steal the spotlight whenever she’s around, and I’m definitely ready to see her story unfold.

Overall, Midnight Ruin kept me entertained, but it didn’t hit the emotional or narrative highs I was hoping for. If you’re already a fan of the series, you’ll likely enjoy it, but I wouldn’t say it’s the strongest book in the collection.

Midnight Ruin is an intriguing and exciting romance book for those who love fantasy elements and all things Greek mythology. It is clear Katee Robert puts a lot of time and effort into her research about each character and how she can put her own spin on them.

This book focuses on a relationship between three characters as a whole and each individual relationship between the three. The build from previous books continues in this story as well and it’s interesting how Katee manages to keep building upon the main plot lines with every book.

While I have discovered that books of this genre/nature may be too hard for me to follow when I am wanting a light fluffy romance, I also know this series is available when I want something more exciting and attention grabbing. I have struggled with both physically reading and audio versions of this series because it can be intense, so maybe I will find the motivation to dive back into this world someday to see how it continues.

*deep breath* I have lowered my expectations further for every book and somehow they still get worse. It was a mistake to put these on the schedule they are on because the author can barely get together a believable romance with two povs, and now with three it's pretty much laughable.

Everything is so surface level with nothing to dig into and make any of the characters distinguishable not only from each other in the book, but from the others in previous books. And the poly romance stories? They make it even flatter. I may change my rating later because I'm feeling petty after finally finishing this, but honestly, this was the worst of the books because it was the most unbelievable. You cannot tell me that Eurydice would go through what she did, Charon watch her heal, and they would both be like, Orpheus get in bed with us, first chance they got. I genuinely hated how cheap and gimmicky it all felt, on top of this happening across literally 3 days. In what world?

I have been reading this series solely for Hera and Zeus's book but I don't think I can justify the struggle anymore.

This was epic in a few ways. Politically, it had some big moves and revealed who is trying to bring Olympus down. Lots of plot building for the overall endgame of the story and it's going to be huge.

But more importantly (because let's face it, it's the smut we're here for), the polyamorous triad relationship between Eurydice, Charon and Orpheus is hot as hell and had one of the schmexiest scenes I've read in this series so far. When Orpheus comes begging for forgiveness, she decides a bit of humiliation kink is what's needed. And he enjoys it. Woof! That scene alone was worth the book.

Another well written and tantalising tale in the Olympus realm.

This series never disappoints! Katee Robert keeps it fresh and fun each time she writes another book in this series. I love how the lines between realistic and fantasy blur so easily that the average non-fantasy reader can keep up. At the same time, the fantasy aspect is cool enough to draw in the fantasy crowd as well. The romance is hot and spicy! Keep them coming!

I love the plot that Katee Robert is building overall, but I wish she would’ve given more time to the romance build. The romance felt pretty fast and certain and never wavered. Hot though!

Midnight Ruin is the 6th book in the Dark Olympus series and it's Eurydice, Charon and Orpheus polyamorous, friends to lovers, second chance tale.
It continues from the previous book in the aftermath of the attack on Eurydice, and the fallout of her relationship with Orpheus.
The battle for power and control of Olympus continues and we are given a blend of betrayal, vengeance, murder, mind games, forgiveness, steam, and so much more.
There were many unexpected twists, and secrets were revealed. The story wasn't bad but it wasn't my favorite. However I will continue with the series to find out how it all ends. I will recommend it to lovers of retellings

🎧 I listened to the audiobook version which was narrated by Zara Hampton-Brown and Alex Moorcock. They brought the story to life and did a great job voicing the characters. I enjoyed listening to them narrate this novel.

5 stars Katee Roberts is a genius. We are huge fans of her and enjoy every book she puts out in the world. We can no recommend this book enough! The audio was perfect and truly the best way to read this story.

Unfortunately, I think the longer this series goes on, the less invested in it I get. Katee Robert has the fantastic ability to write very tortured characters and brilliant steamy scenes, and that is definitely shown in this book.

However, this series is starting to read very formulaic for me. I do enjoy the larger plot woven through the series - namely, the political story found throughout Olympus - but I don't know if I'm invested enough to continue on in the series. This book, like many in the series, had a lot going on, so it can be a bit difficult to keep track of the larger story happening - especially when listening via audio.

I did enjoy the narrators and thought they did a great job of bringing these characters and scenes to life.

Loved! Very riveting story and characters. I was hooked from the beginning even though I didn't know all the particulars of their backstory. They had amazing chemistry and connections and their whole dynamic was very natural. Ate it up. LOVED the audio - voices were perfect. (I finished and rated on Goodreads in March but forgot to submit here sorry!)

Midnight Ruin by Katee Robert

This series has been a wild ride and I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobooks. Midnight Ruin is book 6 in the Dark Olympus series, and is a dark fantasy romance which was an easy listen (the spice was just as hot as the previous books too). Katee Robert does an amazing job yet again; the plot is fast paced and keeps you enthralled, while the chemistry and sexy scenes will leave you needing a cool down. I’m heavily invested in this series, and I cannot wait to see what’s next.

Katee Roberts inclusivity will forever be the reason that I love her, but lord have mercy, she turned the spice levels up in this one. I am so invested in the world of Olympus and was eager to see how Eurydice and Orpheus would resolve things between them as their history has been hinted at in the last few books. While this wasn’t my favorite of the Dark Olympus books so far, I really appreciated the way that it furthered the plot and can’t wait to see what comes next!

Midnight Ruin is the sixth book in the Lore Olympus series and I’m such a fan. I love the Greek mythology and storytelling with a spicy twist, and this series has been so fun to escape with.

The audiobook was done so well, and performed with 3 POVs between Eurydice, Charon and Orpheus.

I love a good Katee Robert book and this one did not disappoint! It’s full of her typical pining, angst and steam to last a lifetime! The audio was so good too

Poly couple between Orpheus, Euridycie and Charon??? Say less. The audio was very well done between the narrators. The story had just the right amount of smut to action ratio. Katee did a really good job at making this feel like a poly couple vs. a love triangle.

Midnight Ruin is the sixth instalment of the Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert. I am a massive fan of the series and have enjoyed every book, including this one. I love the politics and drama of this series and I am so excited to see where it all goes.

This was not my favourite of the series, I found the characters a bit irritating and whiney at times in the context of everything that's happening in the background which made it hard to connect with them as characters. I think I found myself more interested in the build up of the plot as a whole to the next book in particular.

There was a lot of repeating of explaining the political landscape, who is who, what happened to get to this point - which to an extent I appreciate because a lot has happened in 6 books and a novella, however it feels a bit repetitive and I think the series is at a point where you need to read them in order rather than being able to pick a book up and run with it, although I am not sure if that was/is the intention.

The smut was good, but the romance felt underdeveloped. I liked the dynamic of the trio, but I just wish we had more build up.

Audiobook: I wasn't a massive fan of the voice acting for this one. I didn't think their voices matched the characters in my head, so ended up reading the majority in print, rather than audio.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
