Hank Philippi Ryan you have done it again! I love a good conclusion, and One Wrong Word has it in spades! And there is nothing so tempting as a good secret - One Wrong Word has more than one; lots more than one! That's not to say that all the secrets are true . . .

I loved this domestic suspense! Set in Boston, it’s clear the author has either done her research or has lived here. All of the little commentary notes about the setting are so on point…one that really stuck out was the trip up route 2 past MCI Concord…and how a stoplight came out of nowhere. I was cracking up because we’ve totally gotten stopped by it more than once.

Following MC Arden as she gets fired from her crisis management position, while she manages one final situation before leaving the firm, this book was a game of cat and mouse. We know all along that Arden is getting thrown into something…but seeing all the pieces come together was fantastic. I wasn’t completely shocked by the twists, but they were surprising.

All in, another solid novel from a wonderfully crafty author.

This is not my first book by Hank Phillippi Ryan and definitely not my last. This story was intriguing from the very beginning. Arden Ward is professional when it comes to managing crises. When she is assigned Cordiella and Ned as clients, her life is forever changed. The narrator was very talented and kept me engaged and entertained throughout the entire audiobook.

Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the audio ARC. #Netgalley #OneWrongWord

My first book from Hank Phillippi Ryan and I am a fan!! This story was intriguing from the very beginning. Arden Ward is fierce and excels at her job. She is a professional when it comes to managing crises, for both her clients and in her own life.

Cordelia got under my skin from the start. I think it was just her frantic nature that bugged me. That woman has NO chill. I had a soft spot for Ned though. He was a little stubborn in the beginning, but once his softer side was revealed, I couldn't help but like him.

The narrator was very talented and kept me engaged and entertained throughout the entire audiobook. Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This detective thriller started off very strong but by the end I was left a little overwhelmed and confused. There was so much back and forth and so many players that my head could not keep track of all the different motives and stories. I was really interested at the beginning of the book but quickly lost interest as the investigations went on. The conclusion seemed a bit abrupt and the explanations were kind of all over the place. It was just a little too complicated for my mind to wrap around as an audio book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

SYNOPSIS -- Arden Ward is well-known in the world of crisis management/PR. That is, until she is unfairly accused of having an affair with a client and suddenly set to be released from her place of employment. As a final gesture of good will, Arden's boss gives her a case with potentially high billings -- that of Cordelia and Ned Bannister. After Ned was acquitted of a fatal drunk driving accident, they thought their lives would go back to normal. Unfortunately, the accusation has followed the entire family, kids included, and haunted them every day. Arden is determined to clear the air and give them their lives back, until another car crash throws them right back into the spotlight. Is Arden protecting the killer, or has everyone somehow got it wrong?

This was such a fun read! I love a procedural like this one and having the PR side of things through Arden was so interesting! The story had a ton of supporting characters that were hard to keep track of at first, but I grew to be super invested in their lives. While there were definitely some frustrating moments and times where it felt like I was seeing things the characters weren’t, a lot of my hunches were proven correct eventually, and that was super fun! The end, while surprising, some lacked luster to me, though I can't put my finger on why! Possibly because there was a TON of build up and it felt like we were going to hit the action multiple different times before we did. Overall, this was a super solid book that kept me entertained the entire time.

I had a hard time getting into this book and the narrator's voice was very difficult to listen to. I really wanted to love this book so I hope to try another one from this author.

I love it when I read a book and it keeps me guessing until the end! “One Wrong Word” by Hank Phillippi Ryan was a rollercoaster ride that you won’t see coming.

I listened to the book on audio. The narrator did a wonderful job. The author read the acknowledgements at the end of the book. And yes, I ALWAYS read them! Many thanks to the author, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

"The disloyalty of people in power...words had power."

There are moments in the twisty mystery One Wrong Word, by cleverly aware psychological thriller author Hank Phillippi Ryan, where the scenes of public perception force you to look inward.

Arden, a crisis manager, has one chance to save her career after being falsely accused of an affair with a high profile client. Ned, a real estate magnate, has
been found innocent of driving drunk and killing someone. Cordelia, his wife, hires Arden because the public thinks the jury got it wrong.

Voice actress Gail Shalan brilliantly brought the pain and anguish of being unfairly judged but as Arden works her magic another hit and run puts Ned front and center. As all is revealed you will be stunned, a bit angry and scared that all it takes is one wrong word to destroy a life.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from Macmillan Audio via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

This was fast paced and when I thought I had it figured I didn’t. A cat and mouse game and the husband and wife are both suspects to me, and they are lying most of the time.
I loved the main character Arden, and wanted her to succeed and not be in trouble.
I rated this book a 4/5 stars, well plotted and kept me interested.

Audio was well done and I liked it the pacing. I do listen at 1.5-1.75 most of the time.

I couldn’t put this book down.

I love the way Hank takes me on a windy mountain road with all breaks and no gas on this one. I loved the layers and intrigue this one brings. And trust NO ONE.

The main character, Arden Ward, is a fixer. She is leaving her job, but has one more job to fix. Cordelia Bannister’s husband, Ned, was just found not guilty to vehicular homicide. Cordelia wants her fancy life to go back to normal and she needs Arden’s help to make that happen.

Secrets come out and at that point you won’t believe what happens next.

For all you fast paced slow reveal thriller friends, this is a great one!

One Wrong Word was a suspense story with a heavy dose of mystery. As a reader I was puzzling along with the primary main character as she tried to connect the dots and figure out who was lying—and about what. This story was true to Hank Phillippi Ryan’s form, with her unique voice and layering of story.

If you like a good mystery with a twist on investigative stories, this book is for you.

I listened to the audiobook which was done well. I listened at 1.75x speed which is my normal speed for audiobooks.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this advanced audio copy.

One Wrong Word kept me guessing who did it and why. There is so many layers of lies, people, text, connections, deceit, and drama. From the first page I could not put it down without knowing who was the culprit and why. Did Ned have a connection with the skateboarder in the parking garage or was he a victim himself being played?

Arden is wrongly accused of having an affair with a client because of the perfume she wears and is given two weeks to help Ned Bannister rehab his name even though he was just found not guilty of killing a man in his parking garage of his business in Boston. Why does he need help from a fixer if he is innocent? as we know the public always has their opinion and the verdict can be mute to the actual truth. Arden is given this last assignment by her boss who tells her she will have a great referral and will be set up for her future if she can help Ned out of this mess. His wife, Cordelia is the one who hired her and wanted her to clear everything up for her family so that she could go back to her perfect and cushy life. Arden gets to work on this and is trying to find the truth but so many inconsistencies keep coming up with twist and turns continue as she digs to find out what really happen. She meets Ned and gets him to see that people have a magnifying glass on him and he needs to work on his perception.
His attorney is hit by a car walking to Ned's office and all eyes are again on Ned. Arden and Ned travel to his childhood home to check on his kids since their Mom has gone radio silent. Arden keeps trying to decide if Ned is guilty or not of both crimes. She begins to pick up new information that will help her decide how to proceed in helping him reinvent his life in the eyes of the public. Nuggets of information are dropped throughout this trip that makes Arden question what she knows to be true. When they return to Boston more confusion of who did what happens. There are so many motives and Arden isn't sure which way to turn. Cordelia returns from her trip and begins flipping the script and acting wackadoodle and this makes Arden question why is she even doing this job.
As the story continues it is clear who killed the skateboarder or is it? I love how Arden didn't take anything for granted and once the answers are unfolded man was it a whopper loaded with so much deception and mind blowing discoveries thanks to Arden's search for the truth.

This was my first Hank Phillippi Ryan book but will not be my last. It was such a fast pace book and I didn't want to stop reading it. The audiobook was well done and the narrator was perfect for this book. I look forward to reading more of her books and being captivated by her story telling and clues she drops through out but kept me guessing. Thank you to Hank Phillippi Ryan, MacmillanAudio and NetGalley for the ARC of this phenomenal book. It will be published Feb 6th, 2024 and I highly recommend that you put this book on your TBR and get to know Arden and her search for the truth.

Every time I read this author, I wonder why I haven't read everything she has ever written. I think this may be my favorite of hers so far. I loved the set up of a crisis management expert, Arden, trying to rehab the reputation of a client. The only character I fully trusted was Arden, and it was clear she was going to have to wade through a ton of secrets, lies, and betrayal to get to the truth. Although I guessed one of the people who was the master of deceit, the rest came as a surprise. This book was so exciting, and the narration of Gail Shalan, a new to me narrator, was great.

Deceit, secrets, surprises and lots of twisty turns! One Wrong Word moves along at a very quick pace and is a fun ride from start to finish. The characters are brought to life by the excellent writing and narration. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the way everything came together. Recommended.

This novel took me in immediately, and it got better in each chapter. Ryan delved into a story that I found universally relatable from a conceptional standpoint: the consequences of a single misguided utterance. Skillfully weaving themes of murder, deceit, family drama, and more, Ryan keeps the pace fast and the intrigue high. Through the recurring motif of the word "Joy," she prompts readers to question its significance amidst the web of lies and malice.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook. I thought this suspense thriller book was exciting and entertaining. The characters were developed well and worked really well together. I didn’t really the thriller aspect of this book. It was suspenseful and had a great little surprise twist as the book was concluded.

This was such a drama filled, suspenseful read that will having you turning the pages. I was so engaged and entranced in the mystery that while it was untangling, my mind was going a mile a minute trying to figure out where this was going. Every time when I thought I had it figured out, I was totally WRONG.

I went between reading the book and listening to the audiobook, because that is my favorite way to read. The audiobook is narrated by Gail Shalan and she did a wonder job. I loved the amateur sleuth aspect of the book.

This surprising book was so entertaining that you won’t be disappointed in this book.
