4.5⭐ rounded up.
I am such a fangirl for Marissa Meyer. I will buy and read any book she writes so I didn't read the blurb before requesting or reading this and I was pleasantly surprised.
I knew this would be a YA romance, but I didn't know how cute and geeky it would be. I absolutely loved the DnD aspect that was added to the book. It was especially fun to listen to the campaign parts with the audiobook as it was immersive and I felt like I was there playing with them.
I also love that Marissa Meyer did not make every popular person in this book a typical mean girl/jock. The cliques at the beginning of the book were not really the same cliques at the end of the book. I think the message this will send to younger readers is important. Your friends from elementary school that you grew up with do not need to stay your friends if you grow apart; you're allowed to be yourself.
All of these characters were written so well. They all had their own angsty personalities that made the book so much fun. I almost felt like I was back in high school except everyone was much more mature about their feelings than when I was in school.
There were the typical crushes on the pretty, popular girls that everyone experienced in high school. I really liked that Jude's love interest didn't turn out to be a mean girl because that is overdone these days.
I really enjoyed the magical luck aspect. It really showed that you shouldn't get too reliant on "luck" and you need to believe in and trust in yourself to do and be good.
Overall, this was a great YA romance that I would definitely read again and recommend to readers of any age.

With a Little Luck is another fantastic YA novel by the talented Marissa Meyer. Hand this one to fans of Instant Karma for a continuation of the world Meyer introduced us to in her previous contemporary novel. This title will fly off the shelves!

When I started this book, I thought.. oh, this is in the Instant Karma world. A previous book by Meyer that was long, and I didn't especially enjoy. But I liked this one a lot more. It moved faster (with more drama) and the friends to lovers relationship was sweet. I gave Instant Karma a 3🌟rating , but this one gets a 3.75 .

This was sooo cute! I felt like I was listening to a disney movie (in a good way). The narrator did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life. I loved Jude with my whole heart! Such a precious anxious little bean. I was rooting from him from page one to get his happily ever after.
Pop culture references aren't usually done well but I liked them in this book! They didn't feel out of place and they weren't overwhelming. The 4th wall breaks were super neat as well. This was just a treat. A nerdy, goofy, feel good time. I didn't even realize it was the second book in a series until I finished it, so it can definitely be read as a standalone,
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book! <3

I'm going to start by saying I almost DNF'd this book - not because I didn't like it or it wasn't interesting, but as a character I just wasn't as interested in Jude. That could be because overall he wasn't in the first book (Instant Karma) very much, but that was also to be expected because it was about his sister. To be honest, I also wasn't very interested in Maya either and figured why should I keep reading when I'm not invested in either the main character or his romantic interest?
That being said I'm so glad I kept reading, and I actually listened to some of the book in it's audiobook format and that was a delight - highly recommend. The background noises and the way the narrator told the story was so good and made me appreciate the story even more.
Sometimes friends to lovers is a hard trope because in most circumstances the characters don't change - they just become less oblivious and their eyes are opened to what's right in front of them. And for someone who is into a character driven story it's not always as appealing as some other popular tropes. This book did have a lot of character development though, I will give it credit there. Sometimes it was more on the part of the side characters, but still there also some self reflection on the part of the main character. I absolutely loved when Jude would break the 4th wall and talk to the audience, I don't think I've ever read a book where that happened and it was a nice touch. I also know very little about dungeons and dragons, but was still able to follow along and find the story enjoyable - so you don't need to be a diehard D&D fan to enjoy the story, but if you are I'm sure you'll enjoy it even more. However, I did love the nerdy references - while I don't play D&D I do participate in some other things that could be considered nerdy.
Thanks to #NetGalley for an advance copy of #WithaLittleLuck by Marissa Meyer to read and review.

4.5/5
This was an adorable YA romance where the nerdy teenage boy gets the girl (with a little bit of luck on his side).
Jude has always been invisible at his school, but one day when he finds a lucky dice, he is finally front and center asking out the girl of his dreams. With concert tickets he magically won with the power of luck. As he keeps getting lucky though, he begins to realize that luck isn't everything, and maybe his dreams aren't as perfect as he always thought.
There are a lot of references to all things nerdy, such as D&D, Star Wars, Stranger Things, Princess Bride, comic cons, etc. as well as musical references to bands like the Beatles. If you don't find some of those things interesting like I do, I'm not sure this book will be for you!
I have only read the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer before, but this book has the same easily accessible writing style. I had fun listening to this story, and I really enjoyed the characters, including all the side characters we are introduced to.
🎧 Listening to the audiobook was a fun experience since there was added music and sound effects for scenes that take place in the D&D world that the main character created. The narrator did well distinguishing different voices so it was easy to follow!

This was such a cute book! I absolutely loved following along with Jude's story. And I really liked all of the pop culture references woven in. I listened to the audio of this and the narration was great with bits of magic sprinkled in. Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to listen to this ahead of release in exchange for my honest opinion.

Too cute! This was such a heartwarming story about friendship, family, adventure, and first love wrapped up with lots of nerdy references — from D&D to Spiderman to The Princess Bride — and sprinkled with a dash of magic. With a Little Luck reminded me of the very underrated cinematic masterpiece Just My Luck, and I loved the underlying message of how, with a little help from our friends, we can make our own magic and luck in life. And! The best friends to lovers, “it’s always been you” romance was THE cutest.
The audiobook was such a fun listening experience. The narrator was fantastic and I especially loved the sections where the group was playing D&D and their adventures were accompanied by sound effects and musical overtures. I also thought it was clever how there was some breaking of the fourth wall. Sometimes this can detract from a story, but in this case it worked and felt like a continuation of Jude's role as Dragon Master. Jude’s engagement with readers by breaking the fourth wall further immerses you into this world.
While it ended up not being an issue, I didn’t realize this was a companion novel to Instant Karma in the Fortuna Beach series. With a Little Luck worked as a standalone and I did not feel like I was missing any integral information.
I think YA readers will fall in love with this quirky group of friends and thoroughly enjoy their adventures, pop culture and nerdy references and jokes, and the sweet romance.

This is a perfect romantic YA treat. I enjoyed revisiting the characters of Fortuna Beach--the Barnette family with all the Beatles references. Great plot and pace, narrated well!

Clean teen romcom/self discovery story with minimal language. A great story of figuring out who you are and what matters most. I loved the characters. I am only a little familiar with d&d but this book made we want to know more. The audiobook was amacing! I would recommend that format.

A fun second book in the Fortuna Beach series that features Prudence's twin brother, Jude. A geeky nerd who has held a long time crush on aspiring singer/songwriter Ari. Centered around his parent's record store, Jude finds himself in possession of a magical Dungeons and dragons di that brings him untold luck. The only problem is it can't quite help him achieve relationship success. If you enjoy YA stories with nerdy MCs, a touch of magical realism and books like Dungeons and drama by Kristy Boyce, this is one not to miss. Good on audio too narrated by Stacy Carolan. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
