"Cinder Luna" is a modern retelling of, you guessed it, Cinderella.
Luna is a beautiful, yet poor, video game fanatic and animation artist, desperate to break into the business. Henry is a wealthy businessman with dreams of starting his own gaming division within the family company. A chance encounter on a train, leads to love at first sight, and longing for each other. Throw in a wicked pair of twin bosses taking advantage of Luna, a Devil Cat, and a ball, and the retelling was charming to say the least.
This book is cute, cheesy, and full of laughs. Anyone that is a fan of fairy tale retellings will enjoy this one. I could clearly picture it in my head as a little movie playing out.
I enjoyed reading this one. Thank you NetGalley, Marie Soleil, and publisher for gifting me this ARC.
I LOVED Cinder Luna! This whole series is setting up to be a fun ride, and I can't wait. I love that a modern situation like online gaming was given a historical frame and made into one of the most fun novels I've had the chance to read.
This was my first time reading this author and I really liked the story!
I liked Luna and Henry and the main tropes in the story (so many!), the little twists that kept it surprising. I liked the references to Cinderella and the secret gaming identities that had Luna and Henry interacting even more. The secondary characters were also great as was the small town setting.
All in all, an extremely adorable story and a great intro to a new series. Can't wait for the next one!
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

One of my best book buddies told me I had to read this story, and I’m so glad I did! I absolutely adored Cinder Luna. I’m a huge fan of fairytale retellings and this clever, romantic, funny, sweet romcom is a new favorite! It’s a darling, original reinvention of Cinderella that adds a fresh, modern take on the beloved fairytale. I loved the endearing characters and the imaginative way the author included nods to the original story with a clever twist.
Luna’s headed to Brookhaven to help her friend prepare for her upcoming wedding and hoping for a new start after a heartbreaking relationship. Her only enjoyment the last few years is gaming with her buddy MidKnight, where she can be completely anonymous. While traveling on the train, her helpful, kind actions get her upgraded to first class and seated next to a handsome stranger. They have an amazing instant connection, but fail to get each others’ contact information before the charming guy has to hurry off.
When her place to stay in Brookhaven is no longer available, she’s offered a place to stay by two twin sisters who run a bakery. Though she’s worked to the bone, she still manages to find time to play with MidKnight and offers to help him redesign a game he’s working on. But, she’s still dreaming of the guy she met on the train. Imagine her surprise when he visits his aunt in Brookhaven. As her relationship with Henry Stone, the wealthy guy on the train grows, so too does her relationship with MidKnight. Who will she choose, and what happens when Henry learns of her humble circumstances?
I loved Henry and Luna! Their meet cute on the train was so good. *sigh* From there, the story completely drew me in and I couldn’t put it down. Luna is such a kind, thoughtful, positive person. I loved the way she grew more confident and learned to stand up for herself. Henry’s such a dream. I loved the way he pursued Luna. I enjoyed the depth of these characters. They both went through difficult things, Henry with his mother’s death and Luna with her family’s accident and her ex. Their sweet, heartwarming romance was so enjoyable to read.
I also loved the humor: Chickaletta, the way Luna lost her shoe, and the coffee spilling fiasco. All the nods to Cinderella were perfection! Now I can’t wait to read the next book in the series which is a Beauty and the Beast retelling. Yay!
Highly recommend this to fairytale, romcom, and clean romance fans! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher but also purchased a copy through Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
Cinder Luna by Marie Soleil is a delightful contemporary romance that follows the journey of Luna, a young woman who moves to a new town and finds herself torn between two very different men. Luna is a relatable and endearing character, and readers will root for her as she navigates the ups and downs of her love life. Soleil's writing is engaging and witty, and she creates a cast of characters that readers will love to spend time with. Cinder Luna is a fun and flirty read that will leave readers with a smile on their face.
Such a sweet story. Read it in one sitting. It’s so cute! I love that it wasn’t your typical Cinderella story. I don’t usually like retelling a but this one was original enough that it didn’t feel like your typical retelling. The gaming tags was so clever! I can’t wait to read the rest in the series.
Luna was moving to Brookhaven and got bumped to first class on the train. Her seatmate turned out to be handsome businessman Henry Stone. They instantly felt drawn to each other and at the end of their journey they parted with a kiss, failing to exchange numbers in the confusion of getting to their destinations.
Luna loved gaming, so her solace at the end of the day was playing video games with her online best friend MidKnight. Helping him create his own video game also helped pass the time in the dingy attic of her twin bosses' bakery.
I loved the various twists employed in this retelling from the villains of the story to leaving before they found a way to connect again. Luna was also positive in whichever situation she found herself in. Though shy at first, she got the courage to stand up for herself. I definitely would've loved more romance from the two lovebirds but they were an awesome couple in the end. Loved the epilogue!😍
Cinderella is definitely one of my favourite fairytales. I was looking forward to this retelling and it did not disappoint!
Thank you to Netgalley and Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book I've read by Marie Soleil. I loved it! It's a sweet retelling of Cinderella in modern day times. The storyline was perfectly written to include all that we associate with Cinderella, but with a unique spin. We do not get a play by play of Cinderella rewritten which is why I loved it so much. The gaming storyline was great and all the characters are easy to like. Well, except for the twin sisters. Yes, there was a "this is too perfect" aspect, but it still grabbed my heart. I read this as a standalone without feeling like I missed anything, but will definitely go back so I can catch up previous characters stories. This was the perfect cleansing of my reading palate that I didn't even know I needed. I bought a copy to have in my library permanently so I can reread in the future.
Thank you NetGalley and the author for the ARC of this book. This is my voluntary and honest review.
ADORABLE!!! Thank you NetGalley, Marie Soleil and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
OH MY HEAVENS!! What a sweet, charming and wholesome rom-com that had me smiling, giggling and swooning!! Cinder Luna is the first book in the "Once Upon a RomCom" series and is a retelling of Cinderella. I am such a sucker for a fairytale retelling and this one exceed my expectations! I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in the series. I literally could not put it down and finished it in one day. It has your Cinderella retelling, instant attraction, slow burn, hidden identity, small town, meet cute, video gaming, cinnamon roll MMC, who hurt you/he falls first, closed door romance (kissing only), NO THIRD ACT BREAK UP, wonderful secondary characters and is filled with banter, chemistry, humor, love, taking chances and having the courage to be brave. I absolutely LOVED this book so much and is easily one of my favorites for 2024!!! 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵
Luna is moving to the charming small town of Brookhaven in hopes of a fresh start and to help plan her best friends wedding. While on the train ride there, she meets the most gorgeous, considerate man, Henry. They have an instant connection and attraction that ends in a surprise! After going their separate ways, all he can think about is her. Because of being so caught up with each other, they forgot to even get each other's name. Because it's a small town, Henry hopes he can run into her again. Let's just say, when they finally do see each other again things become complicated. Will they be able to have their happily ever after??
Overall, this is an adorably cute and swoon-worthy read that has everything I love in a rom-com!! I cannot recommend this book enough and it deserves all the stars🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!!
This book is so cute, I love this type of books, Cinderella retelling are one of my favs!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for my book ✨💕
I'm a sucker for a good fairy tale retelling and this one was so good. I have followed Marie Soleil on Instagram for a while but the is the first book from her that I've had the chance to read. I was very thankful to receive an ARC of this book prior to it being released.
I absolutely loved the gamer spin that she wove into this retelling. I enjoy reading books about main characters who are gamers, but they're hard to find! I especially love that the hidden identities trope was connected to the gamer aspect of the story!
This is a clean, closed door romance with kissing only and it was just a truly wonderful story. I loved reading about Luna and Henry. I loved their instant connection. I loved their connection through the video games. They're perfect for each other!
I found this book to be an easy read that wasn't super long. Cinder Luna was a book I devoured and read in just a few sittings. This is the first book in Marie Soleil's new series, Once Upon a RomCom, and based on the bonus epilogue at the end, I just know I won't be able to wait patiently for book two!
This is the first book in the series Once Upon a Romcom. These will be fairytale retellings. Obviously this on is based on Cinderella.
I have a weakness for Cinderella stories. I will watch any movie with that as a basis for the plot from cartoons to teen focused movies to high-level, bug studio productions. I love Cinderella!
This story was an easy, light read that I really enjoyed. It had that fairytale feel to it. The kinds of coincidences that happened here were are the things fairytale are made of! I rally liked both Henry and Luna and their chemistry together.
Even though this is a new series, it is strongly connected to precious books this author has written. I have some of those books purchaed, but I haven't read them. I sort of wish I had the background for those characters and their stories. It certainly isn't essential to the understanding or enjoyment of this book, but I personally would have liked seeing those characters make their appearances here. There is a prequel novella to this series though. You can get it free with a link in the back of this ebook. I'm sure there must be another way to access it as well. Perhaps check with the author on social media.
I did receive a complimentary copy of the ebook from Netgalley. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
It was a really cute romcom and retelling of Cinderella.
I really enjoyed the insta love and you’ve got mail kind of vibes 😊
If I had to describe this book in one word it would be the word ‘cute’. I absolutely love a retelling and this modern retelling of Cinderella was written so well and had the perfect amount of your typical romance tropes.
Luna and Henry are really great, likeable characters and their conversations were so sweet. I also really enjoyed the gaming references, something I wasn’t sure I about going in.
The book is a closed door romance, but even if you like a bit of spice you won’t be disappointed. Cinder Luna is the first book I’ve read from this author but it won’t be my last!
Oh my Cuteness!!! I read the synopsis for this book and I was a goner! Cinderella retelling...SIGN ME UP!!! And it just sounded absolutely adorable that I couldn't pass it up. I'm soooo glad I took a chance. I haven't read any books by Marie Soleil before but have had some reading friends who have, so I've been eyeing her books for a while a debating. This quickly turned into a case of, "Why did I wait so Long?!!!!" Now I just want to dive into all of her books...ALL OF THEM!!! But first I need more of the Once Upon a RomCom series. I guess I'll have to be patient because this is the first book and it's just being released in a couple of days.
Luna's dating life has been non-existent for a couple of years. A heartbreak and a not so good ending to her previous relationship has showed her to be cautious and stick with hanging out with her family and her online gaming buddy she's never met. MidKnight. It's safer that way for her heart. Especially since he doesn't know she's a girl.
Her world upends as she's moving to a new town. While on the train traveling to meet up with her best friend, she meets a guy on the train. Ohlala! She's smitten and he is too. They share enough info to possibly find each other if they really try, but this stranger takes off running because he's late. So much for meeting your best match and not getting his name or info.
I just loved how the author set up the story. Now Cinder has gone from no guys to two at the same time. Be still her heart. When she starts to have more interactions with Train Guy and her gaming life starts to creep into her real life, Cinder will have to figure out how to navigate these two men and decide what her heart really wants.
Seriously it was perfect! I loved all the little connections to Cinderella, which is one of my all time fav fairytales! This book is deliciously sweet and swoony with family and friends at the forefront! Such a delightful read. I kept messaging my book besties while I was reading it, telling them that they HAD to read it. *Sigh* Clear your schedule cause you're not going to want to stop once you start (this is definitely much better than pringles ;-) Just sayin')!
Content: Clean.
I received a copy from the publisher, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Happy Reading!!!
This was such a cute book. I loved the Cinderella retelling aspect of the story. And the romance was so cute! I would highly recommend this book
4.5 stars
This was such a cute and sweet read. This is the first book that I have read by Marie Soleil but it will not be the last. Cinder Luna is the first book in Marie Solei’s new series, Once Upon a RomCom. It is a fun retelling of Cinderella.
Luna and Henry were just the sweetest characters! I liked getting to know them and reading about them falling in love. I really like the little nods to the original fairytale but how the Soleil also made the story her own.
Okay, so I liked Luna and it was cool to read about her growth throughout the book. She was just trying her best to figure out life and herself. I loved her little quirks and the fact that she was a gamer. That was so cool! I liked Henry, he was so kind. He was struggling to let others in and he had to learn to truly see Luna.
I liked how Luna and Henry got to know each other first. The romance was perfect. I really liked the side characters and I am super excited to see them get their own books. I also enjoyed the fact that both Luna and Henry liked gaming.
Cinder Luna is a sweet contemporary romance inspired by Cinderella. I would totally recommend this book. The characters were fun and I was drawn into the story.
