Lowcountry Bombshell: A Liz Talbot Mystery, Book 2 was a good read by Susan M. Boyer. Liz Talbot is a Private Invetsigator who thinks she’s seen a ghost. She meets Calista McQueen who’s the spitting image of Marilyn Monroe. She was born exactly fifty years after Marilyn and it seems her life is a déjà vu of Hollywood tragedy. Calista fears that she is due to die with the next anniversary of Marilyn’s death. There are suspicious people around her; her mother, a fake aunt, her manipulative psychoanalyst, her housekeeper, and an obsessed ex-husband. I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read more by the author.

I really enjoy this series. Lots of fun, mystery, crazy antics, relationship and family drama...just a fun read. Liz is a hoot and a half. I love her sassy style; her germaphobia; her relationship with her family and friends; her love for Stella Maris, SC; and her perky personality. She keeps you laughing and wondering what will happen on the next page.

The basis for this book was unique and had a great twist to it. It proves that family can be crazy...or drive you crazy!

This is a fun mystery and has you wishing you were sitting alongside Liz in the bar drinking margaritas and eating delicious seafood. I'm looking forward to another adventure with the Lowcountry series!

I love a good mystery and Lowcountry Bombshell did not disappoint. I loved Liz Talbot and how she goes about trying to solve a case. The narration was also well done.

This was a well written mystery. I wish there would have been more in the story involving the house keeper and the store clerk. It felt like this part of the story was left unfinished. Unless I missed it, she is never told what actually happened to her son.

Lowcountry Bombshell by Susan Boyer
A great cozy mystery!!!! Who doesn't love one? Lowcountry Bombshell has all the vibes...dead bodies, violence, mystery, and romance. Top it off with the perfect Southern setting...the lowcountry of Charleston and the surrounding area. When the cops have all but wrapped up the case, Liz Talbot has a gut feeling that they've got it all wrong, and she is a determined private investigator who won't stop until she gets her man. Oh yeah, throw in a little Marilyn Monroe lore and some wild hogs!!!!!!

I received a complimentary copy of Lowcountry Bombshell . The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. I loved this book. It was a fun twisty cozy mystery. I will definitely go back and read the previous book and read the next books in the series. I want to live on the island and hang out with Liz and her friends and family. The narrator was wonderful. If you enjoy cozy mysteries pick this one up.

This book takes listeners on a thrilling Southern adventure with Private Investigator Liz Talbot. Narrated by Tiffany Morgan, the audiobook captures the essence of the Lowcountry with a perfect Southern accent that suits Liz's character to a T.

The story introduces Calista McQueen, a woman who bears a striking resemblance to Marilyn Monroe, and is living a life shadowed by Hollywood tragedy. As the anniversary of Marilyn's death approaches, Calista fears a similar fate. The plot unfolds with a mix of suspense, murder, romance, and a touch of the paranormal.

Susan M. Boyer weaves a captivating tale, and Tiffany Morgan's narration brings the characters to life. The southern charm and vivid descriptions immerse listeners in the atmospheric setting. The story's elements of mystery and romance kept me engaged, and I found myself invested in Liz's romantic decisions.

Perfect for lovers who are wanting a romantic suspense with a touch of Southern flair. It will especially resonate with fans of Marilyn Monroe. I'm eager to see what twists and turns Liz's investigative adventures will take in the next installment.

After reading The Storm We Made earlier this week. I needed something light and fun. Don’t get me wrong, The Storm We Made is fabulous historical fiction that sent me on Google deep dives, but it is dark. It is brutal and it is sad.
The good thing was, I didn’t have to go far on my search for a bookish palate cleanser because this book was waiting for me in my NetGalley queue. Low country bombshell was fun and entertaining in the very best of ways. I listened to this re-release on audio and the narration by Tiffany Morgan sent me straight to the Charleston area. Since this book is set on the 10 days leading up to August 4th, the weather was warm and the drinks were ice cold. Private investigator Liz Talbot is the star of this paranormal cozy mystery and her newest client is a Marilyn Monroe doppelgänger worried about meeting her fate on August 4th just like Marilyn. At first, Liz isn’t convinced there’s any real danger, but looking into those around the Marilyn look-alike there are actually quite a few viable suspects. The mystery is served with a side of romance since Liz and her business partner, Nate, have discovered and acknowledge their feelings for one another.
This was a fun listen serve with a southern drawl …

This was a cute, cozy mystery. I gave it only 3 stars because I didn't really feel like I knew the characters well or felt very invested in their story. There weren't too many twists and I figured out the ending probably halfway through. Still a cute story with a sweet romance included.

"Lowcountry Bombshell" is a well-crafted mystery with a splash of Southern charm and some sheer outrageousness.

Private Investigator Liz Talbot's newest client is the spitting image of the movie icon Marilyn Monroe. But not only does she look like the tragic actress, but her life has paralleled the star's a bit too closely. And now that the anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's death is fast approaching, Liz's client, Calista McQueen, has hired Liz to keep her alive; not your usual mystery motif... But it made for a great story that I found hard to put down.

While this is the second book in a series, I did not read the first one, so Liz is new to me. But I thought it worked fine as a standalone book, and I do look forward to reading more books in the series.

Thank you to Susan M. Boyer, Dreamscape Select, and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

This was SUCH a good cozy mystery. I had no idea who was it until she told me. Holy moly. I read a lot of cozy mysteries. And this is one of my favorite. I'm so excited to read the rest of the series. ALSO, you can read this as a stand alone. There's no big pieces missing that makes it frustrating. I highly recommend.

Lowcountry Bombshell is the second Liz Talbot mystery by Susan M. Boyer. Originally releeased in 2013, this reformat and re-release in Oct 2023 is 278 pages and is available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout.

This is an interesting and well written PI cozy(ish) mystery with a southern flair. This installment has a definite Marilyn Monroe slant with Liz investigating a client and her background with lots of creepy parallels to the tragic life and death of Marilyn Monroe. The writing is solid but there are lots and lots of side trips along the way. It's a fair bit more graphic than the usual for a cozy, both in the discussion of mental health issues and substance abuse, as well as much spicier love scenes than usual for the genre.

There are some fairly major ethics issues and boundary crosses for a private investigator (indeed any professional), and they detracted from the overall flow of the book. There's also a very oddly inserted paranormal angle with the ghost of protagonist Liz's deceased best friend showing up to give cryptic advice before disappearing again into the ether.

The unabridged audiobook has a run time of 8 hours 39 minutes and is narrated by Tiffany Morgan. She has a husky well modulated alto and in this read, a distinct southern USA (presumably lowcountry) accent with a definite twang. It's not offputting, but it is, and remains, noticeable. There are some minor difficulties differentiating between the female characters and there it's not possible to judge character age based on the narration; the author's fairly adept at specifying details in the text. The sound and production quality are high throughout the read.

With 11 books extant in the series, it would potentially be a good bet for a long binge or buddy read, however, readers should be firm fans of women's fiction and not mind some mildly spicy love scenes, or the occasional ghost thrown into the mix.

Three and a half stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Liz Talbot, private investigator extraordinaire, has been approached by Marilyn Monroe??..To solve the mystery of who is trying to kill her? Calista McQueen, Marilyn Monroe look alike, is determined someone is out to killer and take her money. So, her first stop when she moves to the lowcountry, is to hire Liz!

Well, Liz has found herself in a pickle once again. But, with her trusty sidekick (best friend’s ghost) and her new boyfriend, she knows she is going to crack the case!

I have been a fan of this series since I read my very first book, Lowcountry Boneyard , back in 2015. This series just takes me away with the cute quips, ghosts, southernisms and fabulous characters.

This novel is narrated by Tiffany Morgan. She could not have fit the bill any better. She is southern and mysterious in all the right places.

Need an adorable murder mystery (is that such a thing 🤦🏻‍♀️😂). This is it! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

This is the first book I have read by the author. Despite being part of a series, it works very well as a standalone.

This story has all the ingredients to be a good story. It has romance, it has mystery and a lot of suspense. I simply loved it.
The way the story was written captured my attention from the first paragraph.

I end by saying that Liz is a great character. I liked her a lot.

Susan Boyer’s mysteries are always a fun escape. Lowcountry Bombshell was no exception! I love listening about the areas that I love in South Carolina, and Boyer brings them to life.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version.
I did enjoy the narrator, she did a good job. The story itself was not surprising. I guessed the killer early on. I found the whole story plot with the mc client was identical to Marilyn Monroe. Also we are told over and over and over how much she looks like Monroe, it got old after a while.

It was a bit over the top and very very unrealistic. That honestly didn't have anything to do with the story in the end. If you are looking for a fast easy to read murder mystery/mystery you will like this one.

The premise was somewhat interesting and I was intrigued in the beginning, but about 20% into the story I just wanted to give up. None of the characters really appealed to me. I couldn't even get into the main character, Liz. Tiffany Morgan did a great job narrating, but I found her voice/tone didn't really fit Liz. I couldn't tell if she was a 30/40/60-year old woman. I also found that the story started out focused on Calista McQueen, her client, but would veer off a lot into her personal life with Nate. Although their love story may have been interesting, it didn't really add anything to the Calista case, besides that they were working together, and it just felt out of place. Kinda didn't care to finish it and probably wouldn't pick up any more Liz Talbot books.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Select, Stella Maris Books, LLC for the arc.

Lowcountry Bombshell is Susan M Boyer’s second installment in the cozy Liz Talbot Mysteries series. Just like the first book, I was sucked in from word one. Not only are there twist and turns in the who-done-it plot, but also, there is a dash of steamy romance, and then a dash of the paranormal, with a little neurosis that is similar to what a lot of us are feeling, post-2020.

In this installment of the life and times of Liz Talbot, we find ourselves meeting her new client: Calista McQueen, the chosen name for Norma Jean Monroe, the daughter of a huge Marilyn Monroe fan. She also is a completely natural doppelgänger of the starlet Marilyn Monroe was groomed into looking like. Liz has been hired to find out who is trying to kill Calista before Marilyn Monroe’s date of death, which is not very far in the future.

Liz will have to use all of her Nancy Drew skills and call upon all of her available resources to try to keep Calista alive to see her 37th birthday.

I can’t wait to see what new and fresh ideas Boyer brings to the table for the upcoming books in the series, because these first two were so much fun!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape select for the audio ARC!!
