Loved it! The characters were likable, even the unlikable ones, because of how much Artie loves them. It hits on heavy topics like the AIDS epidemic and loss of family, friends, and loved ones, but it’s still warm and funny. I recommend it!

I say this as a devoted Wholigan, so a grain of salt may be necessary, but I think Bobby Finger is so talented and I loved this book. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but it also made me consider lives that are different from my own in a new way, and I think that is such an underrated skill. Artie is not just a kindly old man who’s been neutered because of his age, and he is so much more interesting for it. I enjoyed the present day timeline and the flashbacks equally, and all of the supporting characters in both who people Artie’s life felt fully fleshed out. This book is funny, charming, and heartfelt.
