Fast-paced, action packed antics of a most entertaining sort. As always, Jen Turano pens a delightful, romantic tale that's hard to put down. Indeed, I stayed up far too late reading about 75% last night and gleefully finishing the rest today.
Foisting the heroine-matchmaker into the unknown land of West Virginia opened an entire new world to Camilla. Adding a misunderstood gentleman, Owen Chesterfield, in the mix further expands her horizons.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series!
Thanks to the author for an advanced eVersion which was provided without expectation or compensation.

Now this is the third book in this series, they do have recurring characters, but can be read alone.

This was a fun read for me, like a warm hug, and yet, full of chuckles!

We are given some nefarious characters along with some warm hearted, very lovable, relatives. We see an heiress whitewashing a fence, all the while she is avoiding getting the recipe!

Yes, love is in the air, and there seem to be several that have felt the spark, making this such a fun read!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.

I’m a huge fan of Jen Taranto. I discovered her books when I read the first book in this series, A MATCH IN THE MAKING. It was so fun and light, and I immediately searched for more books Turano had written.

I was so glad I did! Not only does this book tie into the MATCHMAKING series, but I also saw characters from her BLEEKER STREET AGENCY series. Not only was it a fun surprise, but I loved how everything tied together. Overall, you don’t have to read any of the other books the author has written, but if you have, you will see some familiar faces.

Now, to talk about this book. It was so fun! It begins with a BANG and an attempted kidnapping. As a result, Camilla, a self-proclaimed spinster and ex-matchmaker (though she still gets pulled into the game) runs away to West Virginia to hide from any dangers figures in New York.

The setting for this book was a fun change from the setting of the other two books in the series, New York Society’s 400. Though this was a real group of people (Turano has done her research!) it almost acted as a setting. The way the people acted, the choices they made, and how the female MCs didn’t fit in with everyone else was all affected by their environment: high society. But in this book, a girl that has done well in the upper echelon is thrown into a close-knit small town/society. I loved seeing how she navigated it so well. She took everything in stride, and it made her relatable and likable. She might be my favorite MC in this series so far!

Onto the love interest! I might have a particularly soft spot for him because he reminded me of my husband, but he was so sweet. He does NOT do well when it comes to women, and he doesn’t understand them in the slightest. His faux pas with the feminine set made how much he cared for Camilla and wanted to be part of her life by the end of the book all the sweeter. And that eventual kiss was worth it!

I cannot recommend this book or series enough! It was so good and fun. There’s a reason they call her the one of the funniest voices in inspirational fiction. The book was light and sweet and oh, so enjoyable. I’m happy to add this book to my collection!

Jen Turano is one of my favorite historical fiction romance writers. I love her writing style and humor incorporated into all her books, I literally do laugh out loud and find myself smiling while reading. This book is everything you expect in one of her books and more. This is book three in the Matchmaker series, you do not have to read them all to understand this book but it is helpful and they are amazing reads as well.
Miss Camilla Pierpont whom we met in previous books has such quick wit and spunky personality. Mr. Owen Chesterfield is really not sure what to make of her. I love their first encounter all the way through. This author has a great sense of humor, does a great job at developing her characters and painting a great picture. I always look forward to reading any books she writes.
I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion.

Miss Camilla Pierpont is a well known matchmaker and a member of the New York Four Hundred. She has vowed to never marry after a heartbreak during her debut years ago. Owen Chesterfield is determined to have Camilla help his sister become a refined lady. Camilla is having none of it, until she is put in a position where she needs to get out of town.

Turano's characters were quirky and somewhat humorous. The story was slow moving but Turano's trademark humor and interesting situations kept the story moving.

I received a complimentary ebook copy from the publisher, through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was another fun, fish out of water romance from Jen Turano. In this one she takes a Gilded Age NY 400 heiress and sends her to Wheeling, West Virginia. There Camilla is supposed to help turn Owen's sister into a star that society will welcome back in. The pages are filled with Jen's trademark humor, but also loving attention to detail about Wheeling. I had no idea Wheeling had such high society in its hay day or that it became something of an escape for pockets of the NYC elite. This was another fun read that I enjoyed from one of my go-to authors.

Meeting Her Match
by Jen Turano
Pub Date: July 16, 2024
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Miss Camilla Pierpont, a renowned matchmaker and influential member of the New York Four Hundred, has vowed never to marry after suffering a devastating heartbreak during her debut years ago. However, when she is nearly abducted along the Hudson River, she finds herself rescued by an annoyingly outspoken, albeit fascinating, gentleman who challenges her in a manner she wasn't expecting.
For me this was a no go.
It was a very bland story with a lot of talking. Most of the scenes were multiple characters talking about interesting things that happened in the past. I'd prefer to see the scenes where these things happened rather than getting sometimes confusing summaries of what happened.
I am so glad this was not my first Turano novel or it may have been my last
I cannot recommend this one.

Meeting Her Match, the third installment in Jen Turano's Matchmakers series, has garnered a spectrum of opinions from readers, and count me among those who found themselves thoroughly engaged with the narrative. Admittedly I realized that we were a fourth of the way into the story before she makes it to Owen’s home. But it didn’t matter to me because I was enjoying the journey of the characters. At no time did I want to put the book down.

Jen has a talent for putting her characters in amusing situations. I found the recipe card adventures fun. And that was just one of many situations Jen created for the characters.
Despite the abundance of characters, Turano expertly distinguishes each one, making it effortless to keep track of them all.
I have read the other books in the series and enjoyed them all. However this can be read as a stand alone.
I recommend Meeting Her Match and felt that it was a great escape.

While this is not my favorite of Jen Turano's work, it is nonetheless a supremely enjoyable read. As always, Turano's characters are charming, and the dialogue is often funny. My minor complaint is that some of the situations feel too forced, and I found myself questioning whether that would really happen, which took away from my enjoyment, although only slightly. As long as you can suspend disbelief a little bit and just enjoy the story for what it is, this is certainly a fun read guaranteed to lift your mood.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance e-galley; all opinions in this review are 100% my own.

"Meeting Her Match" is a romance set in 1889 in Hudson River Valley. I find it odd that a matchmaker that tries to match people who share interests finds her match with a man that she has nothing in common with. Except they danced well together. For half the book, he constantly offended her, though it's from ignorance and he modified his behavior when he was told it's offensive. Then, suddenly, they liked each other. He did rescue her several times, so maybe that's it.

By the end, it felt like the author thought if she had the characters repeat enough times what a perfect match they were then the readers wouldn't question it. Owen's relative said that your perfect match will turn you on when you kiss (and so encouraged this test), and another relative said Camilla was fated to marry into the family if she touched a certain recipe card, which eventually happened. I understand Camilla liked the more relaxed society in his hometown and made friends there, but none of these things seem like a good reason to marry someone.

Anyway, this was a very bland story with a lot of talking. Most of the scenes were multiple characters talking about interesting things that happened in the past. I'd prefer to see the scenes where these things happened rather than getting sometimes confusing summaries of what happened. For example, Camilla painted a fence but put the paint on a fence post high enough that when it fell off it drenched her head to toe. Why would she do this as she'd need the paint where she could easily dip her brush in it even if she's foolish enough to think a tall fencepost is a stable place to put a bucket? We'll never know because we never got her viewpoint of the event.

The story wasn't about Camilla teaching Owen's sister refined manners and fashion. Half the book pasted before Camilla even met the sister. Then we skipped ahead by three weeks and were told that the last weeks were spent teaching her and she's fitting in now. There was no sex or bad language.

When I read this book, I was having the worst day... Despite this, the book made me laugh, smile and coaxed me from my bad mood. I love Jen Turano's work and I would consider this one of her best (hard to choose though, they are all great!).

Her characters are well written, interesting, quirky and strong. The situations that they find themselves in like the one with the raccoons, just make you want to laugh out loud. Will be buying it for the library and recommending it on.

Meeting Her Match is the third book in the Matchmakers series by Jen Turano. Camilla Pierpont has built a successful matchmaking business, yet is determined to remain single after a painful relationship ended years earlier. When her life is threatened, she retreats from New York to West Virginia at the request of successful entrepreneur, Owen Chesterfield. The antics of Owen's sister devasted her marriage prospects, and Camilla is the perfect matchmaker to rebuild her reputation. The attraction between Camilla and Owen may turn into an unexpected match.
Turano brings witty dialogue and humor while creating an environment for love to blossom.
