Thank you NetGalley for letting me listen to this audiobook! I admit I asked for this because I didn't know much about the topic and I was pleasantly surprised at how interesting it all was and how easy to follow. The narrator sounds young and enthusiastic and the whole thing feels like a fan tribute. There are broad outlines and details, and the trivia is so varied. This book is so much fun! I highly recommend this for fans and for potential fans, because there's so much about the time periods and the people that anyone could enjoy this. The presentation is a little disjointed, but that just goes with the enthusiasm.
I enjoyed the content, but I think it would have worked better as a podcast rather than a book?
It's a bit disjointed the way it hops around in stories and timelines.
I enjoyed how the author used her own personal history with hiphop to guide the information, but it also made it a bit trickier to follow.
There is a lot of tidbits on some of my favourite women in hiphop found in here, I just wish it had been presented in a different format.
Thanks to NetGalley & Hachette Audio for my ALC.
Fun fact I’m a huge Rap and R & B (90’s of course) fan so I had to check out First Things First!
There is so much history packed into this book and it’s so interesting watching the evolution of women in Hip Hop. It was such a flash back to my teenage years listening to so many of these ladies’ CDs. Yes I’m that old 👵🏽 This book is packed with so many fun facts which is definitely my jam. Did you know Cardi B worked at Amish store before making it big?!?!
