This was such a cute and fun read for not only me but my two boys! The illustrations were gorgeous. My three year old asks me quite often if we can read the special crocodile book!
A cut book but I didn't love all the bubbles. It was harder for my kiddo to help me read because of them. Other than that a good book.
The plot here seems more adult focused. After all, children can't especially relate to the pressures of jobs and schedules. Still, there is a fun level of tension as the crocodile grows hungrier and more stressed. With a satisfying resolution and sense of movement in the art, it's a fun read.
I enjoyed reading this book to my 2 kiddos aged 4 and 10. They thought it was funny and entertaining,
Thank you NetGalley and Colleen Lamour for the ARC approval.
Thank you to the author, Kids Can Press and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. My apologies for the delay in posting this review, I am well behind - this is in no way a reflection of my enjoyment of this title!
This children's book looks at what happens when we're in a rush and don't start our day properly - with breakfast. The kids I read this with giggled throughout at the funny illustrations and the way the story developed, particularly once the croc started looking for something to appease his hunger pangs. And the resolution, of a true friend coming to the rescue was perfect - not to mention the capybaras, who are much loved animals in our household.
I absolutely loved this book! The illustrations are stunning and fun and the story is hilarious too. I was giggling the whole time while reading this book. And is it just me or was our crocodile vegan? Or at least lactose intolerant because he is definitely using coconut milk - or that was the plan, except he skipped breakfast.
Also, extra points for capybaras!
It's been a while since I enjoyed a picture book so much!
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.
Very fun book that shows the realistic yet funny reality of Croc when they skip breakfast
This is a fun story with interesting characters that kids will love. This story reminds us to take time for the important things even when we are in a rush.
Crocodile's late for his job ferrying animals across the river. No time for breakfast! But, oh, he can't stop thinking of those yummy, delicious donuts . . . drool . . . and before long, his passengers are starting to look MIGHTY TASTY. A very cute and funny book. I LOVED the author's illustrations (particularly the close-ups of Crocodile's hunger-crazed eyes). There are even sprinkles on the end papers. Yum!
This was a delightful and silly romp that I think kids will love, while reminding them to eat their breakfast! The narrator and the dialogue working together was quite fun too.
This book was adorable! The illustrations really bring the characters and hunger to life. My kids have made me read it 5 times since yesterday. They loved how the story developed and the silliness of a real problem. Well written and very dramatic!
A really delightful book about a very late, VERY hungry crocodile, and an important lesson on why eating breakfast is so very important!
Filled with delightful illustrations, this book will delight littles over and over again. Well done!

A Crocodile Should Never Skip Breakfast by Colleen Larmour is a fun, fast-paced story that will have readers laughing. Crocodile has a job ferrying passengers along the river. One morning, Crocodile misses breakfast and is distracted by thoughts of the donuts he missed. The hippo who runs the donut place is trying to deliver his breakfast. Will the Hippo be able to get the donuts to Croc before hunger overcomes his judgement? The illustrations are really comical and I love the slime-green color that dominates the pictures. A Crocodile Should Never Skip Breakfast can be a welcome addition to story time.
This book is cute and could start conversations about how breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I thought some of the text layout was difficult to read in the right order for children who are still learning concepts of print.
A Crocodile Should NEVER Skip Breakfast is an amusing story that reminds us that breakfast is an important meal of the day. But it’s EXTREMELY important when you’re a crocodile whose job involves interacting with members of the public!
Croc is very late for his job as the river ferry and there’s no time for breakfast. No worries – he can get a doughnut from the Hippo Hut. But the Hippo Hut has sold out and Croc’s emergency snack is past its best. There’s nothing to eat at work and passengers are waiting. It’s a busy morning and as Croc gets hungrier and hungrier he starts to dream. Are his passengers in danger? Can he make it through to lunchtime?
The text is easy to read. It uses a mix of narrative and speech bubbles to move the story along and we love the humour in the bold, colourful illustrations. We love the elderly armadillo, the rooster with his briefcase and the cheeky monkeys. As Croc gets hungrier and hungrier he starts to imagine them as snacks and donuts but stork won’t let him have an early lunch. Luckily Hippo comes to the rescue but in an amusing twist we’re left wondering what will happen the next morning.
Omg this book was so cute! The illustrations are pure art, the history is pure magic and cuteness. I really loved to be inspired by the message the author passed me. Truly amazing!
This book is perfect! Crocodile keeps getting more and more hungry throughout the day after skipping breakfast, thankfully his good friend, Hippo, steps in before the monkeys become a snack.
The illustrations are absolutely precious!

Super cute and silly. That’s exactly what you can expect from this fun little story all about the importance of not missing the most important meal of the day. Breakfast. After skipping breakfast and in a rush Croc is quick to find that everything keeps going wrong. All his plans fall apart and he is still hungry. The illustrations are bright and get us involved in the story, most of which happens in thought bubbles. Your kids will love this fast paced, on the edge of your seat story that secretly teaches how important it is to eat breakfast. Super fun and engaging. Your family will love this adventure.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kids Can Press for an E-ARC in exchange for my, and my son's, honest reviews.
A silly book about a crocodile that skips breakfast and becomes delusional with hunger. Luckily they have a friend that looks out for them! This was a fun read, but went a little above my (4 year-old) son's head; I had to explain a lot of the context for the humor. He still enjoyed it and asked to read it again as soon as we finished.
A very funny story about a crocodile who had to skip breakfast in order not to be late for his first day of work! After all, it's not that important, right? He can have a snack later…

A cute and fun story to remind kids that breakfast is an (if not the most) important meal a the day.
