Elinor's books are really fun to read! In this one, Elinor learns and had some great observations on plants and their habitat. Children will definitely enjoy learning through this book.
Our family really enjoyed Backyard Soup. We are huge fans of Elinor and love watching her on PBS. I was so excited to have a book to follow along with one of our very favorite episodes. Elinor uses the vegetables from the garden in her backyard to create a soup with her parents. It’s one of their favorite things to do as a family. Elinor and her parents are going to visit her grandparents who live in Desert Town. She wants to make Backyard Soup for them as a special treat. WHen she goes to the yard she can’t find any of her vegetables. Elinor wonders why. Follow along as she learns the differences between different climates and how we can make the best of everything. I love how Elinor gets my little ones excited about science and learning. We loved reading and learning about more that we had learned watching this episode. It was fun for us because we live in North Carolina and our family lives in Arizona and Idaho and we see how each area has their own special foods. Your family will love this adventure. I also highly recommend it for early childhood classrooms too.
My kids love watching this show on PBS, so they love finding books with the same characters.
Book is cute and has a great message.
Not only does it help kids understanding gardening for food and how anyone can have a backyard garden, it also helps them understand climates. It's a cute little story that's very educational. It kept my kids interest and they will read it again!
I read this book with my 7 year old daughter. She loved the book. She thought it was fun to learn about the different climates and how the veggies and plants grow in different areas. I like that this involves the whole family in the story and they share learning moments.
Ari is a friend of Elinor and I liked how he got to learn about different foods that her family likes to eat. This was a good book and surprisingly educational. We love watching Elinor wonders why and now I’ll likely read more of the books!
In my humble opinion this is a book that’ll teach your kids and will awaken your child's curiosity.
The writing is simple and easy to grasp. The illustrations are vibrant and beautiful. At the end the author adds an activity for you and your little ones to bond over.
I would have loved to see more of Ari since that character seemed extremely fun.
Highly recommend
This book was super cute! We loved the family aspect and loved learning about different plants and gardens. We live in the Dessert so it was fun seeing them learn about what we experience everyday.
The book cover piqued my interest before reading the title. The illustrations throughout this book will feel familiar to children. The story is not only meant to entertain and encourage reading. It also explores science and nutrition. I recommend this story for children at home and school.
We really loved this book. First it was a great way to show kids eating and loving vegetables which is great. We were also able to match up vegetables with pictures along with talking about differences in climates affecting plants grown. It was a cute story with a lot of good conversation starters for young kids!
My son and I are huge fans of Elinor Wonders Why on PBS Kids. I love seeing some of the episodes being adapted into picture books. This story follows along with what kids might be familiar with from the show itself, but it serves just as well as a standalone book even if kids aren't familiar with the show. I love that Elinor shows kids how to ask questions and work together with her friends and family to figure out the answers.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked how they showed the differences in climates. I like how they used fresh garden vegetables from both places to make soup. This was a cute book with great illustrations.
Eleanor is curious about everything and Ari is a jokester. In this adventure, they learn about where food comes from, specifically the vegetables that grow around them. When Eleanor travels, she finds out about how different plants do better in different environments. This is a cute little story but it could have more fun? Action? Something.
