I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Have You Seen an Elephant? is a fun and adorable picture book for children about a young girl called Alex who wants to find an elephant. Alex is very enthusiastic about her exploration but finds it more challenging than she anticipates. The interactions with the other animals in the book are so cure and funny, and I loved the illustrations that added to the humorous adventure.
This was such a great book to bring awareness to the young about these majestic and endangered animals and the real-life problems they face. The author cleverly woven this information within the story, and the book makes a great book for discussion on conservation and preservation of nature and wild animals too.
This one feel like pretty standard picture book fare, focused on the premise that the child will see what the narrator cannot and ill delight in finding animals in each picture. While it works fairly well the appeal is limited.
Thank you so much for a copy of this book in exchange for honest feedback. I absolutely LOVED this book. The story was simple, age appropriate in pace and writing style. I think the shining highlight for this book was the cute illustrations. I absolutely would recommend this to anywhere young readers are -- at home in personal collections, libraries or classrooms, daycares etc.
4.5 stars = I loved it!
This is a fun and clever story about a girl who loves elephants - but who keeps missing them when she searches for them. Along the way she shares with the reader some of the many elephant facts in her journal in clever spreads. This is a clever design for an animal facts book, and I would absolutely put this (which will hopefully become a series) in classroom libraries or in front of animal-loving readers.
Book Review: Have You Seen an Elephant? by Elina Ellis
Rating: 4 stars
Have You Seen an Elephant? by Elina Ellis is a delightful and educational picture book that follows the journey of Alex, an enthusiastic explorer on a mission to find an elephant. Little does she know, her quest turns out to be more challenging than she anticipated. Through humorous encounters with various animals, readers are taken on a journey that cleverly sheds light on the disappearance of these majestic creatures.
The story is not only entertaining but also serves as a subtle reminder of the real-life issue of elephant extinction in the wild. Ellis skillfully weaves facts about elephants into the narrative, making learning fun and engaging for young readers. The incorporation of Alex's journal entries adds an interactive element to the book, encouraging children to explore and learn more about endangered animals.
One of the standout features of Have You Seen an Elephant? is Ellis's charming illustrations. The detailed and expressive artwork brings the story to life, capturing the curiosity and determination of Alex in her search for the elusive elephant. The hidden elephants cleverly placed throughout the book add an element of surprise for keen-eyed readers.
In addition to its educational value, this book is a perfect gift for young animal lovers. It combines a heartwarming story with adorable illustrations and fascinating facts, making it both entertaining and informative. As the first book in a series focused on endangered animals, Have You Seen an Elephant? sets a strong foundation for discussions on conservation and wildlife preservation, making it a valuable addition to any child's bookshelf.

Super cute informational picture book that does an excellent job of balancing picture book with elephant facts. Would make an excellent read aloud for younger elementary age children and could easily be used as an idea basis for student animal projects.
What a great picture book! I loved the layout of the book and the journal aspect that gave additional facts. I especially loved the fun little twist on the last page that might be over kids’ heads but the adults will like. I highly recommend this book.
This is a truly interesting book to read. It is hilarious, since Alex can't see the elephants around her, somehow. But also informative, she did her homework of collecting information well. With great illustration, the author also encourage children to find what interest them and make a journal for it (so less game time).
This book was lovely, I readed it with my little sister and she found it funny and lovely. It was a great reading experience and funny for old and young people. Never thought an elephant could be that cool and learned a lot from this book. Funny ending hopefully that means book two is on the way.
Have You Seen an Elephant is absolutely adorable! Filled with various animal illustrations and numerous glimpses into Alex's "Elephant Journal" full of elephant facts, this book is perfect for any children interested in animals. There are tips on how to create a journal for any animal at the end, which I found to be a really nice touch.
I received an ARC from Kids Can Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Elephants are my second favorite animal; so I kenw I wanted to read this one.
I adored Alex. I loved the illustrations on every page, but particularly 14-15 descriptions of an elephant. I learned so so much.
Page 18 made me laugh, and 20 about Poo was so so funny and cute to read to the little girl I nanny. Every kid laughs at poop.
Over all this sweet read made me laugh, and learn so so much. Another book to add to my BUY list

Come along on a journey with Alex as she looks for her favorite animal, the elephant. Along the way she shares fun facts and information from her journal while searching for the elusive elephant. Reader's will enjoy searching for the elephants along with Alex. Who knows...maybe you will find one? But why is it so hard to find an elephant? This book brings awareness to our littlest readers about endangered animals in a lighthearted and kid-friendly way. The illustrations are beautiful and the clever characters make the kids stay engaged throughout the book. My son loved listening to this story and loved all of the elephant facts! This is a perfect book match for any child that loves animals, being silly, or adventures. I highly recommend you add this book to your list of books to own. This is the first book in what will be a series.
While Alex the explorer is on a hunt for Elephants he meets some interesting characters. He also shares all that he knows and information he's collected in his elephant journal with these characters in hopes they can tell him where the Elephants are.
When he starts to give up and think he should start looking for a different animal that's of course when he finds the Elephant. The book then ends with cute instructions of How to make your Own Journal. What a fun book!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Have You Seen an Elephant? is an utterly charming and lough-out-loud funny picture book about Alex, a young explorer and an elephant enthusiast. Alex knows a lot about elephants, what they eat, how they talk, and even how heavy their trunks are. In search of an elephant to meet, Alex comes across different animals, all of which are drawn beautifully, often looking befuddled by Alex. This would make a wonderful gift for any child who is interested in animals.
I do love funny picture books that will for sure make the little ones laugh out loud! I mean, I was giggling while reading this book, just imagine how my nibling was giggling too!
It's not only a hilarious read, but it's extremely informative in a fun way. Our main character is looking for an elephant, her favourite animal, and she presents us facts and interesting info about elephants in general.
The illustrations are cute and adorable! Finding the elephant is a lot of fun too.
The picture books ends with tips on how the little ones can make their own notebook where to write them interesting facts about the animals they like or draw them or do collages. A great activity for the little ones.
Cute is the best way for me to describe this book. It was simply adorable and I enjoyed it very much.
Lovely illustrations and you don't get bored looking at the pages. It's funny and a lovely little story. I would recommend it as a cute adition to a small child's personal library.
I really don't have anything negative to say about it. It was by no means groundbreaking but it does its job and in an adorable way.
This book is inspiring, informative and hilarious! I loved the funny moments that caught me by surprise and the hilarious ending. I think this will inspire kids to start a journal of their own!
This book was a delightful mix of silly and educational, with great illustrations. We see our protagonist explore nature, while showing off her research on elephants. The illustrated facts in her journal are approachable and easy to comprehend, while her explorations and interactions with other creatures are fun and silly. Great read!
A little explorer travels the jungle in search of an elephant. They meet lots of jungle animals along the way and asks whether they've seen an elephant. They also share facts about the elephant and show off their journal. One funny spread has the explorer and the zebra in a predator's belly having a chat!
At the end there is information about how to make your own journal.
A cheeky story with cute pictures that would be fun for PreK-grade 2 readers.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I'll purchase for my library.
a really cute story about a little girl finding elephants everywhere, she just can't see them hahaha
