This was a really good book that can lend itself to some amazing activities. People can research the things further, learn new things, or just refresh their memories of things already known.

This book is an absolute rainbow-coloured treasure. Meticulously researched, it offers a wealth of fascinating historical details on the people, places, and ideas behind queer activism in North America over the past century. The art is lively and gorgeous, the material is engaging and accessible, and there is a lot of interesting and important information for readers young and old, presented in an appealing A - Z format. And whether you're brand new to the community or if many of these stories are already familiar to you, there are still plenty of new things to learn. It's a wonderful and essential resource, perfect to share with the young people in your life. I loved it.

Thanks to Kids Can Press and to Netgalley for providing me with a free advance reader copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I've read two books that use the alphabet to talk about being queer. One was a board book, and then there is this book, that organizes history using all the letters. We get some pretty cool insight, like what exactly the meaning of "zir" is and the facts that we ought to know. Some of the letters refer to activists that the average reader may not know, and we get other important information.

Totally worth reading, and very insightful a month before Pride.

This is a great reference for readers of all ages looking to understand a bit more about queer history in the United States and North America. Many of these topics were familiar, but even I, a historian, learned something new by the end. I highly recommend using this as a teaching resource, or, at least, a handy guide for further reading.

This was fantastic. The art was delightful, and the text was both wide-ranging and picked out more obscure figures and historical events, as well as not erasing the less mainstream and less polite aspects of activism. The extra material after the main text was a perfect addition.

It was an interesting and informative book about the LGBTQ+ community and its history. However, I found MORE Queer Activists section too long and therefore boring.

Whether you’re new to the community and beginning to learn LGBT history, a member of the community wanting to pass some wisdom down to the next generation, someone interested in queer history, or an elder wanting to remember and reminisce on the strides the community has taken, there’s something for everyone in and around the LGBT community in this book. Everything is paired with beautiful visuals, bright colors, and highly informative tidbits. Even after you finish the book, there are still sections which encourage you to learn more!

This book features such gorgeous illustrations and graphics, which all pair nicely with the book's content. I am always looking for books like this and it provides so much important information. This is a need-to-have book for anyone who is wanting a starting point to learn about Queer History. While I was familiar with a portion of the content, there was so much other information I had never learned about before.

"Queer History A to Z" is an absolute gem 💎 in the realm of LGBTQIA+ literature! Robin Stevenson, Vivian Rosas, you've truly outdone yourselves with this glittery masterpiece! 🌈📚 From A to Z, it's a fabulous celebration of queer history that's more dazzling than a pride parade float. Bravo!

Can we just throw a thousand stars at this book? ⭐️✨ Queer books bring me so much joy, and this one deserves all the love and then some!

There's just so much to adore in this glamorous read. Normally, I struggle with informative or historical books, finding them a tad snooze-worthy. But not this one! It's as easy to digest as a rainbow sprinkle cupcake 🧁 and twice as fun! Despite its compact size, it packs a punch of knowledge and entertainment. It's like a tiny, but mighty encyclopedia of queer excellence! And let's talk about the artwork—jaw-droppingly fabulous 🎨, capturing the spirit of the LGBTQ+ community with perfection.

I am part of the LGBTQ community so whenever I see a new book about anything Queer I need to read it so I was so excited to have been accepted to read this! I loved this! They packed this kids book with so much info its crazy! It was nice having the organization of the ABC's but also the little trivia thrown in and then the glossary, list of activists, and 100 years of history. It was a nice change of pace to read other Queer history rather than just the same couple of things every book puts in it. Robin Stevenson really did their research and made the community proud with this one.

I really love how this book pairs LGBTQ+ history and important people in our history with each letter of the alphabet! It was comprehensive, fun and not too overloaded with information! I also really enjoyed how colorful it was and not too overloaded with information which I find happens a lot in “history books”. Thank you for writing such a great book to help everyone, of all ages learn the history of our community! And thank you for sharing it with me!

Queer History A to Z is a great little book. The colors and illustrations are fun, and the information that can be learned inside the book is valuable information. This book doesn't just pull common queer terms to meet the assignment; it actually teaches about queer history. There is something to be learned by everyone who reads this book whether they are in the community or not. There are even tidbits of information within pages. For example, F is for Flags shows the flags, but also names and dates each one and teaches about The Pink Triangle. The authors here clearly did their research and were trying to create something beyond your basic ABC book.

I learned so many new things to look into about Queer History. I have never even heard of some of these topics. I would recommend this book to any one who wants to learn more about queer activism, it’s such a good beginning book.

An interesting runthrough of queer history. I found the biography at the end a little overwhelming and feel this would work better as a companion book as I struggled to absorb the information.

I haven't been on #NetGalley in a while, and when I went, I stumbled upon "Queer History A to Z: 100 Years of LGBTQ+ Activism." It was written by Robin Stevenson and illustrated by Vivian Rosas.
["An essential resource for young readers that details the people, events and places that have shaped queer history in North America.

In this exploration of the history of LGBTQ+ activism in North America, middle-grade readers can learn about the key people who led the fight for equality, the events that brought about change and the places where history was made. Presented in an A to Z format, with one topic per letter (“P Is for Pride”), the entries include subjects such as coming out, pride flags, Jazz Jennings and the Stonewall Inn. Young readers will be particularly interested in learning about youth activists such as Gavin Grimm, the history of the first gay-straight alliance and the ongoing issue of banned children’s books in America."]

This book was really good! Some of the information, facts, people, places were a review, but I did learn a lot! Some more modern terms, some new people, some Canadian facts.

Plus, the pictures and illustrations were gorgeous! The colors popped right off the page.

This book debuts on May 7, 2024, and you NEED to go check it out!! :D

This book is FILLED with information about the lgbt rights movement in North America and it was very well presented. I enjoyed the illustrations and the general sense of diversity in the book - not just in term of gender and sexuality expression. But also in terms of disability, indegenous ancestry, skin color, etc. It was very nice to see the inclusion of lesser known sexual identities, such as asexuals,
I also really enjoyed the timeline in the end and the glossary.
Overall, a really good and important book for the older child to have access to. It's not necesarily one that you read from front to back but that you now and then reach for and learn from.

A new way to ABC. A is for activism! A diverse book of queer history in short, digestible (but still informative) sections. It has lovely illustrations and includes indigenous, Black/Stonewall histories too.

Thanks to netgalley for a copyin exhcnage for an honest review.

Even though it's geared towards a younger audience, Queer History A to Z, it can be read by anyonw. It talks about intersectionality and celebrates the fact that we owe many aspects of queer liberation to the civil rights movement and the work of activists in BIPOC communities. It's an incredibly inspiring book, with queer joy jumping off on every page through optimistic language and beautiful vibrant illustrations. I love how many activists were highlighted, especially BIPOC people who are often overlooked in the general discourse around events like Stonewall.

Note to the publisher: There is a mistake on page 35, where the text refers to Oscar Wilde as "British." He was Irish and of Anglo-Irish descent but not British.
