I love watching the Deadliest Catch and reading horror novels, so this seemed the perfect book for me. The atmosphere, the horrible nightmares, the memory loss, and the fact that the rest of the sailors were having nightmares too just added to the creepy vibes. Like a locked room mystery at sea with monsters, or is Whitt just going insane? I love the writing style, the pacing was perfect for the story, and the gorgeous dark cover just drew me in! This is my first book by this author, but I plan to look for more.

This story was too long with many scenes repeated over and over. And then the ending was anticlimactic.

There was a pretty good sea horror atmosphere.

I Really enjoyed his other two books but this one overall fell flat. I rated it the lowest out of the three.

I think that O’Halloran’s story of finding all the artifacts would have been much more interesting.

Of course I will continue to read anything Daigle writes.

If you enjoy Cosmic Horror, you will enjoy this book. Very dark and often depressing, it's full of great descriptions and lots of creepiness. Especially entertaining if things involving the sea and sea creatures are something you enjoy. The story follows Whitt Rogers, who can't remember his past and is traveling across the country looking for answers while following a mysteriously creepy hooded figure. Whitt can't sleep because of the horrific nightmares that haunt him every night.

He finds himself in Alaska and is offered a job on a crabbing vessel. He soon discovers that the others on the boat also experience nightmares that rival his own. The only way they can sleep is the daily dose of "medicine" which is mixed in with their meals. Something sings to them as they drift along and Whitt believes that there are mermaids/sirens in the water. But, is there really something in the water or is he just (finally ) going insane?

The author does a great job with creating a dread filled atmosphere and making you look behind you as you read. I will definitely be looking for more books by him.

I love a sailor shanty and an unbelievable fish tale, and A Dark and Endless Sea delivered above expectations! The sense of complete hopelessness, the drowning dread, and the fear of the infinite unknown made this mythical horror novel something special. It's one of those stories that are difficult to explain and that you just have to read. Brutal, unrelenting, and unsettling but with perfect metronomic pace that propels the story forward, A Dark and Endless Sea is perfect for spooky or cold winter reading. I will definitely check out the other books from this new-to-me author! I also loved the literary tie into Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner... my high school British lit teacher Mr. Jones c.1993 would be so proud I remembered, LOL. It is only fitting the author is also a high school English teacher!

Thank you to NetGalley and Wicked House Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

This book was SO GOOD! This is one of those books that you cannot put down even for a potty break. It is that good! I went into this book blind and I am so glad that I did. HIGHLY RECOMEND! It is going on my forever reread list and I will be ordering the book as well. BRAVO! Perfect!

This is an ARC read for Netgalley. Thank you to the Author and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this amazing book! This is my honest review and I was not paid for it.

After loving A Dark Roux, I knew I had to keep up with Blaine Daigle's work - and man I was not let down! Daigle has a talent for creating such an immersive atmosphere that you truly feel like you have to physically detach from the story when you put the book down.

Now, I won't lie, I am deeply afraid of the deep sea, we literally have no idea what is going on down there. So I knew from the premise alone this horror was going to work on me, with the inclusion of the dream sequences - this may just be may favorite horror of the year!

We go on this journey with Whitt, does he listen to his dreams that may descend him into madness?

For fans of A24's The Lighthouse, I cannot recommend this book enough.

This was my first book by Blaine Daigle, and it definitely won't be my last. I absolutely loved the story. It was a dark atmospheric story, set at sea. It follows a man with little memories, trying to sort out what is going on and what has happened in his past. It was a great mix of mystery and horror. Definitely one I would recommend to read.

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Wicked House Publishing for providing me an ARC copy. I was so excited to have another chance to read Daigle’s work, and this did not disappoint in the slightest! From land to sea, Blaine Daigle has proven that he can truly do it all.
We are given another incredible atmospheric horror story, this time set on the violet and unpredictable ocean. Before the creepy stuff started it honestly remined of Deadliest Catch with a twist. Which should 100% be taken as a compliment because I loved watching the show. I loved that amidst the unsettling vibes there was a healthy dose of realism that kept the reader grounded.
The horror factor is more suspense than jump scare. Rather than traditional horror, there is gore and a lot of very chilling imagery. Honestly this is the type that I prefer, as I like not knowing what twists the story will take. I don’t think ocean horror is a true sub-genre but whatever this is, I love it!! There was a lot of play on fear of a person’s mind, the unknown and the madness of sailors being at sea for so long (I don’t think this is a real thing, I’ve just read too many thriller/horror books at sea maybe) It all was very human in nature and absolutely left me feeling emotionally connected. Which is a little funny since it is a horror novel, but I take it as simply being deeper than just a fantastic scare (which it still did!)

A dark and endless sea is my second book by the same author, first being the dark roux. I liked the first one for the writing. This one too is good. The tone of the book Blaine Daigle maintained throughout the book was spooky and atmospheric. This whole book had the ocean damp vibes , also some pirate vibes which one can't miss.

Set in the middle of the ocean, there's this ship Sonia which is sailing towards unknown seas. Whitt Rogers has been having dark dreams, he remembers nothing about his past and when he joins Sonia, he knows there's something eerie going on this ship and he is going to find it soon or else he might lose it all.

I loved the writing too much, it had a flow to it and I personally felt it was beautiful.

Overall a really good read , if you are into dark spooky reads, this is indeed highly recommended.

Thank you Netgalley and wicked house publishing for the ARC in exchange of an honest review.

Another book by this author to add to my collection. I always enjoy books by Mr. Daigle, but this one may be my
Favorite of all his works. He sets the scene so brilliantly and the pacing is always phenomenal. My only critique would be wishing there was my diversity in the characters, but overall this was an exciting and tense read!

It's a spooky book that is a style that I don't usually read. It was interesting and suspenseful at times, but a little too much gore and horror for me. Others will love it. If you like the mystery of the sea, you will like this one.

a horror story set against the expanse of the ocean? sign me up! atmospheric vibes were exactly what I wanted for the setting. how much creepier can things can in the middle of the raging seas with no land to cling to for safety?

this is the first I've read from this author, but I enjoyed the tense, page turning action that left me wanting to know more. A man with no memory of his past, with only his haunting dreams. If you like disturbing, slightly gross, atmospheric horror, then this is one to add to your list.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC!

A Dark and Endless Sea by Blaine Daigle is a story about a man with no memories, struggling with a reoccurring nightmare. The nightmare leads him to a ship where he enlists as a crab fisherman. On this ship, he finds other men who share the same nightmares and memory loss. The Captain has his own mission that is driving him.
This book is slow and at times feels very repetitive. It has a dark atmosphere and some depressing characters but it doesn't scream horror to me. It's more of a story about a man looking to overcome past trauma, a man trying to right a past wrong, and a man trying to find his true self. It is like a modern day Moby Dick mixed with mythological creatures and lore. It is an enjoyable dark twist on that story.
Thanks to NetGalley and Wicked House Publishing for the advanced copy. The opinions are my own.

Pretty solid effort from Daigle about a man who's past is a mystery to him that joins a crabbing boat crew full of other men whose pasts are also unknown. The captain of the ship is an enigma, as is his mate, and the journey they're on may not truly be about crabbing. The book drags for a while, with lots of overly descriptive prose that gets a bit repetitive at times, and very little action to complement it. However, it does pick up nicely and move at a better pace once the purpose of the trip becomes clearer. A solid ending wraps up the tale. Daigle definitely has talent, as evidenced from his prior two books, and this one just needed a bit more goings-on to rise above the level of good into great. I'll continue to read him for sure. Recommended for fans of maritime stories, just give it time. Thanks to Netgalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Whitt Rogers is afraid to fall asleep at night because he can't stop his dreaming and the dreams are now getting worse. Whitt feels he's in a living nightmare at times because he can't tell reality from the distorted dreams and sometimes he thinks he's actually losing his mind because most of time when he awakens he can't seem to remember where he is or anything about his past life.

So now, Whitt starts a new job as a crew hand on a crabbing ship traveling out on the Berhing sea and although he desperately needs the money, he has no seafaring experience of any kind and he can't understand why he's even aboard this ship with several other crew members who don't seem to happy to have him working beside them.

Maybe the answers to Whitt's puzzling life will be found out on this restless sea or maybe he will only find a different type of darkness where he may wish he was still dreaming!

This was a dark, gloomy but very entertaining horror story that was quite unique in it's storyline. The tone was eerie all the way through to the end and the characters were seamlessly written where I could vividly picture each and every one of them. I had no idea what to expect with this novel but I'm so glad that I was given the chance to read it since I had read another horror book by 'Blaine Dangle' called "Broken Places" which I absolutely loved and I highly recommend because it was a very, very creepy and frightening novel! I really enjoy this author's writing style, so if any readers want to read a disturbing, horror story taking place out on the high seas with terrific characters and unpredictable situations continuously taking place until the very last page, please don't miss out on this one!

I want to thank the publisher "Wicked House Publishing" and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book and any thoughts or opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

I have given a rating of 4 NIGHTMARISH AND DISTURBING 🌟🌟🌟🌟 STARS!!

A long tale of a boy/man named Whitt. The fates seem to control him life and memory. I felt that most of the story was long and familiar. A ship captain with a quest and a misshapen crew of losers with no where else to go. I almost gave up reading since nothing was happening and it started to drag on. Looking for a mystical destination that would change their final fate.

Blaine Daigle is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. He knows how to weave in and out of reality seamlessly. His prose are beautifully written and he can build a world even if it takes place on a singular level.
A Dark and Endless Sea follows Whitt. A man who has no memory of his past or even the day before. He is in a motel when he is approached by a man that convinces him to meet with a captain of a crab boat. This man appears to know about Whitt and his loss of memory and the dreams. Dreams so vivid that he wakes up in a feverish sweat. Whitt agrees to meet the captain and takes the job along with four other men, Freddy and O’Halloran the captain. Whitt is a quiet man that is unassuming, but the crew is leery of the newcomer. As they all become acquainted, truths come out that they all have loss of memory and vivid dreams. Whitts is always an underwater town that he grew up in along the coast and a lighthouse, dead bodies that seem familiar.
This is where Blaine’s master skills come alive. He builds a world of despair, self deprecation, loneliness, distrust and gruesomely vivid scenes. The tension rises as time becomes a blur and unearthly experiences begin to happen. Captain O’’Halloran has an agenda and through it all, Whitt remains steady while trying to remain sane
I gave this book a 4.5 and that is only because I felt a few sections became a bit lengthy and I needed to stop reading. But, Blaine has created a wickedly disturbing world even though it takes place at sea, you can visualize and feel the depth of being a captive on this boat.

Thank you Wicked House Publishing and Blaine Daigle for this excellent read!

I'm a massive Daigle fan and this book didn't disappoint. Each of his stories is so different to the rest and I found this book gripping from start to finish like his previous.

He spends his time creating the setting well and I could feel the dread build and I was questioning what was happening like our protagonist. This book was a slow burn but I could feel the pace quickening and the ending was just wild and wonderful.

Overall this was an excellent read. Great character building, cleverly draws out confusion and dread, gory but not just for the sake of it, some unexpected secrets and beings feature and the ending was an excellent way to finish off.

4/5

[ Huge thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this ARC! ]

I really have nothing to say except I adored this story. I read the whole thing in a 24 hour period because it was about impossible to put it down. The atmosphere and sense of menace were masterfully developed throughout, and there were so many scenes that gave me serious chills. I love a good descent into madness, and Daigle really delivered here.

There's a lot that I wish I could say about the themes in this read, but I'm worried I would be slipping into spoiler territory. Because of the nature of this story, I think it reads best knowing only the basics. I will say it had strong themes throughout that really resonated with me, even though it was really difficult to read in (many) places. Despite everything, the ending wrapped up really well, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about this story since finishing it. I think it'll be simmering in my noggin for weeks (months?) to come. It is definitely one of my favorites of 2024.

My first Blaine Daigle book, and this will certainly not be my last! A Dark Roux is up next from this author. Daigle has some serious writing chops, which he displays to chilling effect wiht the opening dream sequence of a drowned village and a young amnesiac man walking around in it. From the first I was quickly swept up into this high seas mystery which bordered on some cosmic horror and then went full bore aquatic nightmare. No more details about the book, then, because I tend to spoil the plot.

I'm on vacation on a remote island, currently, so this nightmare on the high seas was definitely something that needed to be read. Very recommended.
