I would 100% give this book (and series) more than 5 stars ! This book is SOOO good! I really love Casey and Jericho they are both such great characters. It's amazing after so many books in this series that every book is still thrilling and captivating! Casey is on the hunt for a possible serial killer but this time the killer hits very close to home. I love when you read a series and another book comes out and not only are you exciting but it meets all your expectations. READ this series!! Look forward to the next in this series. Can't wait!
This was my first Casey White story and probably my last. There was just something I didn't like, maybe the characters or is it the writing style? Not sure.
Even though it was book #11 you get the required background to understand the characters so I never felt that I missed something.
Actually now after thinking what to write here I think it was the writing style I didn't like. I felt many times like zoning out.. it made it hard to stay concentrated what to read.
Thankyou Netgalley for providing me the ARC.
A message in a bottle stirs up all kinds of trouble for Detective Casey White. The bottle from a suspected serial killer offers a challenge to Casey - find him or a girl dies. Written in a specific type of riddle, Casey and her team work to answer the challenge. Then, one of their own is targeted. Meanwhile at home, Casey and Jericho's adoption of Thomas and Tabitha appears to be in jeopardy until a past character revisits. B.R. Spangler does an exceptional job with detail and background on both Casey's family and her history with her missing daughter. It's absolutely one of my favorite series to read. And considering the cliffhanger the author left the readers with, I cannot wait for the next book! Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.
Part of a series featuring Detective Casey White and her team and her family. A horrific murder and mystery to solve which bites close to home.
If you are a fan of detective TV shows, this book is right up your alley. It reminded me of episodes of Law and Order: SVU. You get right into the problem, they investigate their leads, a couple dead ends, some side plots that extend beyond this one book (since it is part of a series), and a conclusion but with some overarching questions still to be figured out. The writing was not my favorite style (it was a little to the point without much elaboration), but that didn’t take away from the well thoughout plot. I enjoyed the characters and their relationships. There was lots that I didn’t know that came out of the first 10 books, but the author filled those gaps in well. The overarching plot of adoption I felt was out of place, but if you take it like an episode of a TV show than it makes sense you would have these bigger plots that span the whole season (or all of the books). I will say that I believe I have tarnished myself with reading books by Ruth Ware and Mary Cubic, because I expect big reveals and giant plot twists. This was a solid read that I would recommend to detective/crime fans looking for a quick weekend read!
Her Last Hour by B. R. Spangler is the 11th book in the Casey White series. I have enjoyed all the books in this series, no surprise this was as good as the previous ones. This was a fast paced thriller that I couldn’t put down, there were enough twists to keep it interesting. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series to find out what happens next. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for my arc.
When Ruby Evans is abducted on her way home from volunteering at a nursing home in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Detective Casey White’s heart breaks for the inconsolable mother. Terrible memories flood back of when her own darling daughter was taken twenty years ago. Pushing her own pain aside, Casey vows to find Ruby and bring her home. This was quite the easy read, and when I say that, it's never negative.
I sat down for a few hours and flew through the book, and it entertained me.
I liked the main characters and would happily read any more books by this author.
I have really enjoyed this series. A teenage girl is abducted and Detective Casey White is on the case with her daughter. I think I enjoyed the books more where she was on the case with her husband Jericho. This book had some satisfying moments with her children but definitely left a set up for the next book.
I really enjoyed this fast paced thriller! There was constant action and twists that made me want to keep turning the pages. I do wish that I had gotten to know all of the characters better although, with my coming into the story at #11 of the Detective Casey White series, it is understandable that I will probably get more background by reading the other books (which I can't wait to do!). I also would have liked to get a little more background or inner dialogue from the victim's and/or the killer's perspectives.
Overall, I had a great time reading this detective thriller!
A young girl gets kidnapped on her way home from a volunteering job. Detective Casey White is called in to investigate, but she is unfortunately too late. Ruby's remains have been found on a beach. She was killed in a cruel and brutal fashion.
However, someone that Casey put in prison a decade ago, calls her and claims to know who the killer is. He will tell her who the killer is, but his terms are far too high for Casey's liking.
I have read a few of the Detective Casey White series, unfortunately not from the beginning, but have thoroughly enjoyed the series so far.
I like the way that Casey's personal life features in the book, and I think that Jericho is a great match for her. Casey obviously has a lot of heartache in her past, but is moving forward.
Casey is dedicated to her job, and with her daughter, Tracy, on her team, manages to solve cryptic clues.
I do recommend this book to those who love a female lead in a Police Procedural, and who love trying to solve the case before the end. I failed dismally.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
Casey has been through a lot already in her personal life and she has had to deal with a lot of vicious killers she had to chase and was able to put behind bars. Case closed, right? Well, for most ot them yes, but there are always exceptions to the rule...
Casey has a lot of balls in the air. She has a race against the clock in her professional life, because every minute counts as per usual and she has an important event to deal with in her personal life. I love the way her team works together and I was touched by the support they gave her when she needed it the most.
The author creates the best stories around his main character detective Casey White. They are creepy, suspenseful and contain a high level of emotions that will break your heart on the one hand, but warm it on the other hand.
The killer is a first class and cruel manipulator and although they are the worst, the best stories revolve around them. I am looking forward to the next installment in this incredible series. 5 stars
Thank you
Her Last Hour is part of a series of books about a detective and how she will do what it takes to solve her cases.
I never read the books in this series before this book and I have to say I wish I would have.
This could be a stand alone and was good even not having read the earlier books because the author fills in a lot of the past for the readers.
I can’t wait to read more in this series. It’s suspenseful and will keep you from putting it down until you’ve read the last page.
This is the 11th book in the series. In my opinion, you really should read them in order. Without the background information you gain during the previous books, you will be missing out on really understanding the characters and their personalities.
I've read them all and have enjoyed each and every one. My only complaint, is at times, this one felt a little wordy, some areas a little choppy. I didn't find some of the transitions to be completely smooth and found myself having to go back a reread sections. With that being said, I still really loved this book. I look forward to book 12.
Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.

These books are addictive, and Her Last Hour is a great addition to the series. I really like the main character, Casey. She is smart, empathetic, and determined to find justice for victims.
The author has an effortless writing style that keeps the reader engaged and rooting for the good guys while also keeping you guessing who could be the culprit.
There were a few slow parts in the book, and I really wish we knew more about Tracy and what happened to her 20 years ago.
Overall, a good crime thriller with a satisfying ending.

Detective Casey White solves crimes...she helps others who need her...This talented author has written a page turner. Realistic characters keep the story moving quickly. This is a mystery...intriguing...that being said, this is about a gruesome murder of a teenage girl…difficult to fathom let alone read the words…imagine the cruel people who do these crimes…book from Netgalley.
This book was my introduction to the Detective Casey White series. Although this is book 11 in the series, I think this one is fine as a stand-alone. As I was reading, it didn’t feel like I’d missed anything, nor did I need any additional context.
In terms of the writing, I must admit I struggled with this one. It was a slow burner, which felt wordy and difficult to follow at times. That being said, I feel like this is a personal preference issue, as the crime novels I lean towards are usually much more fast-paced which I find makes them easier to read.
The chapters switch between perspectives of the detectives, the victims and the killer, and it was easy to grasp the flow and familiarise yourself with who each person was.
In terms of the story, the premise was great and the description really caught my eye. The beginning chapters were also very captivating, as poor Ruby was taken, and I felt like the book had so much potential. Despite this, I think it was the investigation side that fell short for me and wasn’t as suspenseful as I would’ve expected. I felt we didn’t learn enough about the victims, and also expected more about the main antagonist, as he played such a pivotal role in the story yet was barely mentioned.
If I’m honest, it felt like there was a lot of effort put in to setting up the next book, but by doing that, it felt like this one was missing crucial information that would’ve made the story so much better.
If you’re already a fan of the series and writing style, I’m sure you’ll still enjoy this one
I’m giving it a 3.25 😊
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy.
This is my first read by the author and i understand this book is the 11th installation in the series featuring Detective Casey White.
There were frequent glimpses into events that had occurred in the past but they were not too distracting and it is perfectly fine to read this book as a standalone as well.
The characters were somehow created in multiple shades and it lent a great authenticity to the whole human emotions and experiences. I liked how even the protagonist, Detective White made mistakes such as overlooking the possibility of Sherry fitting the killer's clue and only focusing on her protecting her daughter Tracy.
The crime in the story involving Ruby was gory without too much details thrown in. It was a tragic tale.
The villain and his motivations felt a little convoluted but then again it was just me.
I liked how the storylines involving the main characters are kept open as they will be continued to explored in further books but as for the main villain, his arc was left unfinished, which was a little unsatisfactory- again something that will be brought up in further books i suppose.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this arc.
