Such a fun read that is full of quirky characters! Riley has been going through a rough patch of life and wants nothing more than to be normal when she witnesses one of her elderly neighbors get murdered…. before it actually happens! Seeing Riley deal with her clairvoyant skills and try to figure out how to help those around her was great. This read more like a cozy mystery than a romance novel, as the romance was more subtle than I’m used to in Lucy Score books, but it was still very sweet and kept me rooting for our psychic FMC and PI MMC. I am very much looking forward to reading book 2 in the series and seeing what happens with our characters next!

Thank you to NetGalley and BloomBooks for the eARC!

I received this ARC through Netgalley, and I enjoyed every second of it. This book is a perfect mixture of mystery, romance, and humor.

Should Riley have answered the door? Maybe, maybe not, but she can never go back to life as it once was.

A perpetual bachelor hottie 🔥, an old lady obsessed with butts 🍑, a gaggle of psychic abilities, dog farts 🐶, cabbage casserole, and utter chaos just to name a few things in Riley's life.

I laughed my way through the entire book 🤣 The MFC stumbles her way through life, surrounded by equally goofy characters you just have to love.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

The Dead Guy Next Door is the first in A Riley Thorn paranormal mystery/romance series by Lucy Score and it’s one heck of a lot of fun It is also fast-paced and frequently laugh-out-loud funny with plenty of quirky and likeable characters as well as some downright dastardly villains. Riley and her fake fiance, Nick, make an entertaining couple and what would a mystery/romance be without a loyal but lovable dog, in this case, Burt, who is a very good boy. Overall, a perfect any time read. Oh, and the mystery’s not too shabby either..

Thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebook Bloom Books for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review

A fun, paranormal, fast paced mystery from Lucy Score!! I loved how this was a bit out of her typical genre but still had the fun dialogue and plot we’ve come to expect from her.

This was a FUN book. I always love a good female psychic book. This one was a lot of fun. The characters are all great- the bad guys are super scummy, the kooky neighbors are especially kooky (bordering on too much), and the romance is both lovely and 🌶️🌶️🌶️. Even though this book is kinda long, it really doesn’t seem that way. It’s the kind of book I look forward to getting back into each time I take to read and I for sure will be checking out more books in the series.

Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door is a captivating series featuring eccentric characters and a lovable protagonist. The protagonist, a divorcee, shares an old home with elderly roommates who are experiencing clairvoyant visions. A neighbor is involved, and a private investigator named Nick Santiago helps solve the mystery. The book's vivacity and the reunion of roommates are the highlight, but there are some unlikable characters. The book's length is the only complaint, but overall, it's a fun and engaging read.

Thank you to Netgalley and Lucy Score for this free copy for an honest review. Can't wait to read Riley Thorn and the Corpse in the Closet

Nick and Riley were so fucking cute yall I can’t. The banter between them, the “I care about you but I don’t want to” way they both got on each other’s nerves, Riley’s personality, Nick’s attitude…

Ugh top notch.

Lucy Score strikes again.

This book was adorable! I didn’t feel like I was reading a Lucy Score book, which actually was nice - shows she has different styles - but I got vibes of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum + Lizzie & Deisel series (not complaining). I loved the quirky characters, the madness, the fun, and I adored Riley and Nick’s “fake” relationship. I’m glad there’s a sequel because I definitely want to continue reading these characters.

I’m a huge fan of Lucy Score’s books and have been for years, but The Dead Guy Next Door is my absolute new favorite. I can hardly wait to read more books in this series.

This was a great read. Pace was great and characters engaging. Occasionally the writing was a little cheesy but overall an enjoyable time.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
From the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Things We Never Got Over

A nice, normal life. Is that too much to ask? For Riley Thorn it is.
I found this book to be entertaining, well written, and fun! There are so many likeable characters and I loved it when all the roommates got together. Their banter and camaraderie were endearing. There were some characters who were real stinkers as well.

The mystery of the dead guy next door was nice, but I enjoyed the interactions between Riley and Nick the most! I look forward to reading more about them in the next book!
The only down side was I thought the book was a tad too long.

Another knockout from Lucy Score! Thank you to Bloom Books, Lucy, and NetGalley for this ARC.

Riley is a psychic. All of the women in her family have "gifts" and are proud to cultivate them. Not Riley. She wants to be normal. Normal house, normal job, normal normal normal. She just can't quite get there. After a doozy of a divorce and job change, she finds herself living in a house full of geriatric oddballs. In a vision, she sees her neighbor from across the hall get shot in the head. Now she has to deal with a hot hot hot PI, a nosy by the book cop, her loose cannon roommates, and a stranger claiming to be her spiritual guide. All before she winds up a loose end in need of being taken care of..

Long story short, this was so fun! Not what I have come. Tome 0ect. From Lucy Score and I am 100% on board. This was light and fun and funny. The tension between Nick and Riley was so good. Her silly neighbors were hilarious. I can't wait for more!

The Dead Guy Next Door had me cracking up pretty much the entire time while reading it.... It was silly and goofy, but absolutely cute and fun! Riley's reluctance to accept her very apparent psychic powers is somehow completely relateable, and the insanity that is her family was absolutely perfect. Nick's gruff but sweet vibe seems to be her perfect match and their banter is on point. I can't wait to keep readinag this series when I need a light and fun mystery romance!!

This was a hilarious and quirky mystery unlike anything I’ve ever read. I loved how over the top the characters were and found myself laughing out loud. Things felt a little slow in the middle, but the ending was really fast paced and exciting. Overall a fun escape read, would be great for fans of Knives Out. I’m excited to read the rest of this series!

Thank you a million and one times to Lucy Score, Netgalley, and to Bloom Books for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review!! Any time I get an ARC of a Lucy Score book I am absolutely FLOORED. She’s one of my favorite authors of all time, and I’m truly so grateful for the opportunity.

And this book!!!!!!!!!!!! This book was EVERYTHING.

This was such a traditional, iconic, Lucy Score novel. You have steamy romance, a fun thriller aspect, suspense, murder, kidnapping, all a part of the classic combination that Lucy has absolutely perfected. This book is being added to my favorites shelf. This book is being recommended to all of my friends and relatives, heck, strangers even. And I just bought myself a copy. Five shiny stars for this one!!!

To quote Nick Santiago, the man that he is, “Yeah, this is a good day.”

GO READ THIS ONE!

This is such a fun book. Sort of reminded me of Meg Cabot’s Mediator series that I was obsessed with back in the day.
Riley is a delightful character. She’s curious, funny and unique . The male main character is swoon worthy and smart. These two together made a great combination. I really enjoyed their dynamic.
The mystery was light so nothing dark happens but it was still interesting.

Who wants to be normal anyways? “[N]o one is normal. And the people who strive for normal or perfect or respectable miss out on all the good stuff.”

The Dead Guy Next Door by Lucy Score follows “gifted” Riley Thorn after she is divorced, broke, and living in a mansion-turned-“family”-apartment co-living situation where she is by far the youngest (to put it mildly!). When Riley has a vision of icky, gross, next-door neighbor “uncle” Dickie being murdered, and days later it comes true – Riley becomes a prime suspect because she warned the cops about this possibly happening. Enter Nick Santiago, hot ex-cop turned personal investigator with his own PI firm, who is hired to find out who really murdered Dickie – and this entertaining adventure takes off!

What a fun ride! I absolutely LOVED all of the characters (a bit Richard Osman with The Murder Club type elderly crew). Penny was a hoot and Gabe’s naivety was hysterical. Nick’s jealousy of Riley and Gabe was a great tie-in as well, and you could picture Riley rolling her eyes throughout some scenes!

The main downside was how long this novel was; I believe some parts were redundant and just added fluff that was not necessary. Also, as a prior family law attorney – I want to know how Riley owed her ex-husband any money / settlement at all!!! Based on the facts I couldn’t figure it out and hope it’s later explained.

Score has a winner with Riley Thorn – a clairvoyant that sees the future – and I can’t wait to read the other two novels that are currently in this series. Riley and Nick are a new sleuth pairing that a lot of readers will easily fall in love with. I give this novel 4.3 stars and will continue to recommend Score since there is no way NOT to smile with one of her books in your reach!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bloom Books for this ARC! I can’t wait to read more about Riley Thorn, her crazy family, Mrs. Penny, Gabe (and most definitely Nick!).

“Life is an adventure to be lived, not a series of repetitive days to survive.”

“A nice, normal life. Is that too much to ask?”

It’s amazing how important it is to read the right book at the right time.

I read this book several years ago, and was less than impressed.

Where was I and what was my mental health like in 2022?

I remember being irritated by the immaturity of the primary characters. I became annoyed by the cartoonishness of the secondary characters, and rolled my eyes at the mental gymnastics the reader to perform in order to buy into the plot.

2024? A totally different experience. The characters loveable and quirky. The plot was entertaining.

I like 2024 me better. She's in a better head-space.

Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for this ARC.

Genre : Paranormal Romance
Rating : 3.5/5

"Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door" – it's like a rom-com mystery rollercoaster, and I'm here for it! Riley's got these psychic vibes she's not too keen on, and then she gets tangled up with Nick, a PI with charm for days. Their fake dating scheme? Hilarious. The banter's on fire, and Riley's roomies? Total scene-stealers. Plus, that whole mystery about her neighbor? Intriguing as heck.

The beginning does feel like it's taking its sweet time to build up and took me a while to get into. Riley's whole psychic struggle and Nick's brooding charm took a beat to warm up to, but it was worth the wait. Overall, it's a laugh-out-loud fest with a side of "whodunnit" mystery that'll keep you flipping pages continuously.

Overall, Lucy Score's cooked up a delightful dish of quirky characters, sizzling romance, and a mystery that'll keep you guessing. Yeah, it might have taken a minute to get going, but once it does, it's like a quick page-turner. I am usually not a fan of rom-com but I am a fan of mystery, so it definitely hit that sweet spot.
