Riley has a dead neighbour and private investigator nick is here to help solved the murder. Lots of fun banter. Interesting twists in the plot. Lots of over the top characters. Subtly romantic and sexy. Reminds me a bit of Stephanie Plum in the best way. Really enjoy this fun mystery-romance-mystery.

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

I did not realize this was a re-release! This will give you serious Stephanie Plum vibes with a twist of psychic powers. Riley’s life was already pretty rough before her neighbor across the hall gets shot. She’s divorced and sending her tv news anchor husband alimony while living in a huge house populated by elderly tenants. Then, she has a vision about the neighbor getting shot even though she’s tried so hard to suppress her psychic powers. What happens next is a funny cozy mystery that was cute and light, a perfect read!

Riley Thorn has a crappy job, crappy ex-husband, and sees dead people. This was a wild ride from start to finish. Crazy cast of characters that you won’t get enough of. Oh, and a sexy detective. What more can you ask for?! Love this series and looking forward to many more of Riley‘s adventures.

I'm a huge fan of Lucy Score. (Her Knockemout series is one of my most favorite book series EVER!) So, I requested this book as soon as it came available, without even checking the description. If you're looking for something like her Knockemout series then this book probably isn't for you. It's a mystery and not a romance. Still, in true Lucy Score fashion, the characters are great and the story itself is a fun ride. I would recommend it if you love mysteries.

I completely ate this up! I am such a fun of lucy score and I was so happy and impressed with this book.

I was kept on my toes through the book and was reading as fast as I could. I was so sad to get to the end of the book, but completely looking forward to the next one.

The mystery side of the dead guy next door kept me intrigued.

Loved it!

I really enjoy Lucy Score. The way she makes you fall in love with her characters... I was instantly sucked in. There is humor, drama, murder and laughter all in the same story. I mean come on... Riley and Nick are the perfect rom-com couple. Everything was so well written, and the inclusion of the elderly characters was the icing on the cake for me. The story line itself is well developed and detailed without being overly done and boring.
Definitely recommend.

Lucy Score has a way with words and creating a story that reads like a movie. This is my second novel from Lucy Score and I love her work! She creates these over the top, sometimes over cringy, embellished love stories that I am just here for. I found myself reading what this book was about and just laughing at the synopsis, thinking yup this is gonna be over the top and I am going to love it. I started this and found myself teleported into this world of murder, psychics, private (hunking eyes), old people, and love. The best way I have always been able to descibe Lucy Score writing is like a hallmark movie made a baby with lifetime movie network for HBO. I found myself laughing so much in this novel and truely had a blast while reading The Dead Guy Next Door!
Thank you so much netgalley for letting me read this little ray of sunshine and it was a perfect beginning of spring book to read and forget about all the world for a bit and have a laugh. This book delivers on making you smile and making you laugh until you bladder hurts. The best part about this novel is when you finish and you want more there is the second book Corpse in the Closet AND the third book The Blast from the Past!
If you want to spring forward, have people stare at you as you laugh and make funny facial expressions, read this and have a great time with this whodonit wild novel as Riley Thorn, divorced. Broke. Living with a pack of elderly roommates. And those hallucinations she's diligently ignoring? Her tarot card-dealing mom is convinced they're clairvoyant visions.
Just when things can't get worse, a so-hot-it-should-be-illegal private investigator shows up on her doorstep looking for a neighbor...who turns up murdered.
Nick Santiago doesn't play well with others. Unless the "others" are of the female persuasion. (Wink). He's a rebel, a black sheep, a man who prefers a buffet of options to being stuck with the same entrée every night, if you catch his drift.
When the pretty, possibly psychic Riley lands at the top of the list of suspects, Nick volunteers to find out whodunit. Only because he likes solving mysteries not because he wants to flex his heroic muscles for the damsel in distress.

When I first started reading this, for some reason in my head the characters were speaking in that early 20th century trans-Atlantic accent like in those old black and the gumshoe detective stories. Then it finally hit me what this book reminds me of - the Stephanie Plum detective stories by Janet Evanovich.

The story is lighthearted, slapstick humor, lightly spicy (especially compared to the Knockemout series), and a fun read about a reluctant psychic and her fake detective fiancée.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC.

The Dead Guy Next Door is a hilarious rom-com, and I utterly devoured it.

Riley and Nick were the cutest together, and I kept needing more of them. With undertones of the mystery surrounding the dead guy next door, this left me intrigued and desperate to know more.

Nick, self-proclaimed devilishly handsome private investigator, is brooding and fine and has the sweetest dimples. Swoon. Honestly, I was charmed by their first meeting, and his charm grows with every single interaction.

Both entertaining and witty, this is a great rom-com that’ll leave you smiling.

Not only was Riley great, but the hilarious side characters, including Riley’s parents, really helped make this an entertaining read.

The Dead Guy Next Door is a ridiculously funny, over-the-top, absurd, and yet sometimes serious read! It centers around Riley Thorn, a super likable, down-on-her-luck psychic who just wants to be "normal" and Nick Santiago, a sexy private investigator, former policeman who doesn't want to be tied down. The two are brought together by a murder in the elderly housing "mansion" where Riley lives.

This book is full of laughs, silly scenes, suspense, mystery, crime, romance, sexual tension, as well as some deep and grave situations. There is an array of fabulously odd characters who are often aptly named and have hilarious backstories and personalities. The scenes were comical, but could also be serious. It is wacky, crass, humorous, sexy, thrilling and hard to put down. I finished this book last night and am still laughing and smiling about it. If you enjoy the Stephanie Plum books, be sure to pick up The Dead Guy Next Door. Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the digital ARC.

Loved this book! It is a fun read with a great group of characters. They are an eccentric & quirky group. There is romance and a bit of who done it mystery to the book. I found myself laughing out loud at times. Main character Riley Thorn is coming out of a bad divorce and is in a funk. She lives in a boarding house with a group of senior citizens. Fast forward, she witnesses a murder. In walks Private Investigator, Nick Santiago and the story takes off from there. This is my first read of Lucy Score but definitely not my last. Thank you to Net Galley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for this advance read.

Unpopular opinion: I am not a fan of Lucy Score's romance books. However, I really enjoyed this book which is a paranormal mystery. I can respect that she writes multiple different genres and I think the mystery genre is more my cup of tea when it comes to this author.

The beginning was a little slow, but I really enjoyed our main character Riley. Such a funny gal who also happens to be a hot mess in the best way possible. The mystery is very much a who did it vibe with a fun cast of characters.

Thank you Netgalley, Lucy Score and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for the arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

“The dead guy next door” is a paranormal romance / mystery. This book is by definition quirky, with lots of sarcastic humour and quips.

The story follows Riley Thorn, a 30 something, single, down on her luck woman with unwanted psychic abilities where she can speak to the dead and receive visions of the future.

Despite her attempts to lead a normal life she finds herself tied up in the murder of her neighbour, somehow resulting in her fake engagement to a smoking hot private detective who is investigating the case.. enter love interest scenario.

I think the paranormal and murder mystery aspects really made this more appealing to me. I enjoyed the tension and dialogue between the love interests and Theo undercover investigative work when they teamed up to solve the case together.

The majority of the characters in this book have overly idiosyncratic personalities, but the vibe of the whole book was to be eccentric so the characters made it what it was. There are definitely some laugh out loud moments, I found it a lot more entertaining than the contemporary romance genre.

If you enjoy books outside the realm of the norm you will likely find a soft spot for this one. I would definitely read more Riley Thorn books when they are published!

Thank you to Lucy Score, Sourcebooks bloom books and NetGalley for the Ebook!

If you're a fan of Stephanie Plum books (by Janet Evanovich), let me steer you this way.
At first, Riley Thorn and Nick Santiago can't help working together when they have one thing in common: the dead guy next door.

Nick, a PI, and Riley, the "not official psychic", are not bad partners. With her psychic powers and spirit guides, Riley has an advantage no one else in the world has (except the other women in her family but she's trying her best at being normal). When Nick shows up, they have to work together to see just how deep the mystery of the murderer goes. It may be bigger than they bargained for and they have to make sure they don't let their feelings get in the way of the goal - which is hard to do when her neighbors think they're dating. The world is small, especially in Harrisburg, and that makes you think: just how true is the saying, "No matter where you are, everyone is always connected"?

My favorite character has got to be Mrs. Penny, who you'll meet because I see you reading it in the near future now that it's been released. Her humor reminds me so much of Betty White. All of Riley's neighbors were so easy to keep track of and were perfect additions to the chaos of it all. I've already started speaking to everyone about this book and hope to get my hands on a physical copy soon!

Thank you NetGalley, SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books and Lucy Score for the e-Arc.

Additional troupes:
- forced proximity
- one bed
- fake dating

This was so dang cute. I loved following Riley in her adventures and watching her fall in love with Nick. It was hilarious, sweet, fun and perfectly spicy for a rom com.

The beginning was a little slow, but as this story picked up I couldn't stop. I thought the way Lucy built this world was really cool. Riley's gifts were something we see often, but I thought how she got them were really unique and how she used them were so great. Her visions weren't super clear and the whispers were almost worse, but she finally put them to work to figure out this mystery.

I loved the side characters. This entire cast was flipping hilarious and I couldn't get enough. I am so excited that we get two more books with these guys and I can't wait to see what they get up to next.

The audio was really well done, even if I wished it was a dual/duet narration. Natalie Duke did all the voices so well, especially Riley.

Riley Thorn & the Dead Guy Next Door was an absolutely stunning read from Lucy Score. Riley Thorn has psychic gifts that she's tampered down all her life, but mysterious things start to come into play when Nick knocks on her door. I loved the touch of action and the bouts of humor in this novel. Score knows how to write characters with personality, courage, and lots of feistiness. Riley was a wonderful main character and so was Nick. I was a little disappointed that there weren't more spicy scenes, a Lucy Score staple, but Nick and Riley's connection was still strong and swoonworthy. I loved the psychic/magical realism twist this book had. Riley's visions and the dialogue from spirits were some of my favorite parts of the book.
